Other way round. We had four teaching positions in the math department when i worked there in college. The dept chairman and the next most senior were "Doctor", the third was "Professor", and the fourth and most junior (with highest turnover) was "Mister". "Professor Lutz" actually got his doctorate during my time there and qualified to change the sign on his office door to reflect the advancement.

Doner is not a misspelling of "diner", it's pronounced like the reindeer name. It's a big log of meat (sometimes more than a foot thick) that's cooked like a kebab and shaved to use in things like gyros. It's just not very commonly seen in much of the US.
