Great comparison. Very impressive. This in combination with a iphone gimbal and that all manual recording app will give you a lovely setup for tracking shots.

Great review, this one really won me over! I've been conflicted getting this or the videomicro in conjunction with an Osmo 2 stabiliser, as mounting a microphone seems to be an issue no matter what, but even then, this seems much more convenient in every way. Thanks!

I kno other Rode mics too which are made for DSLRs but i wanted to kno that this particular mic connects with Phone+DSLR? Or only Phone?

Maybe with a load of adapters but i don't see why you would want to. There are better mics for that use.

How do you use the mic for interviews if it only points in one direction and how far can you be away from the person to still get good audio?
@Documentally6 жыл бұрын
I would only use it for interviews if you are going to edit out the subjects response. Although you can be heard to the side of the mic it would sound weird. How far depends on the environment. In a noise environment i'd have the subject as close as you can. Head and shoulders. Although i think a handheld or wireless mic would be better in those instances.

It looks like it wouldn't be able to point it directly at the subject? Can it tilt like 30 degrees? or does that not matter?

Not really. It's not a true shotgun mic. Too small for that.

Could it be used for recording voice overs on the go? Is there a 'proximity effect' ie. does the sound pick up more nice low frequency 'bass' sounds when very close to the end of the mic (with dead cat on as a 'pop filter')? Thank you

Hey there Thanks a lot for this review! As this is a directional microphone, I'm wondering whether it would work for my specific use case? I'm busking on the streets, and while I'm having a "real" portable PA with both microphone and guitar input, I'd sometimes like to not carry around all that stuff and still be able to amplify both my voice and my guitar. I have an iPhone holder that I can attach to the front of my acoustic guitar, so I can look at my iPhone's screen while playing. I thought: why not just use my microphone to pick up both the guitar and my voice, and connect a little Bluetooth speaker to amplify? While wearing headphones, this works perfectly (sound quality isn't great, but enough for my purpose). But as soon as I connect the speaker, I get terrible feedback issues (no surpise here). So - do you think using a directional microphone like the RØDE VideoMic Me (and placing the speaker in front of myself, facing to the audience), I would get a better result? Maybe you could give it a try? I would love to hear your opinion. Thank you!
@Documentally4 жыл бұрын
I think there are better options and you need more distance from the mic to the speaker. I'd use the Rode Wireless go.

What do you think about using this as a small solution for recording a mid-size rock concert? I don't wanna throw out $60 if it won't be good/ok, so I can enjoy my recordings. Thanks!
@Documentally5 жыл бұрын
I have not tried it for recording anything as noisy as that. I guess it depends on what kind of levels you can attain on the recording device. Personally I would use some of my more professional equipment and a standalone audio recorder with better preamps.

sorry, i want to ask.. what is dead cat u said for many times on this video? that fur ball??
@Documentally7 жыл бұрын
Yes a dead cat is a wind shield. the most important part of this mic when outdoors. And i'm afraid i can't answer your question about the samsung Note 3. Have you tried asking @Rodemics on twitter?

Have you tested the mic in bass heavy environment like loud venue, concerts , club. I'm looking for a simple solution to record my band rehearsals. The loudness and the bass is creating a lot of distortion. The videomic me could be a great solution.
@Documentally8 жыл бұрын
Not tested it no. In a high noise environment i'd want to adjust the levels. Possibly with a mic using the lightning adapter.

Doesn't work with facebook live according to reviews. Can you confirm? If yes, then I will have to invest a bit more money for SC7 cable as well as micro phone clip-on.

Documentally, if you point the camera at people outside and you're interviewing them. How far can they stand from the mic and phone before the audio quality starts falling off
@Documentally6 жыл бұрын
Street Talk it’s not a shotgun mic so not far. Depends on ambient sound and volume of the speaker. I’d use the Rode Video mic pro.

HELP! I've had this mic for a few years, been loving it so far, yet I just got a new phone without any audio jack. Rode has yet to release a similar mic with usb-c connector, and I've been racking my brain on how to use my old videomic me with the new phone. Got an adapter, but the mic just won't lock the way it used to. Then I bought a trrs extension and basically use it as a handheld mic, but still there's no convenience of a shotgun mic there. Do you have any suggestion?
@Documentally4 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. Where are you based? The Rode Video Micro is are pretty affordable at the moment. Will that work? That said I think it's time to save up for the Video Mic NTG.That looks amazing. Not got my hands on one yet.
@vedranart8 жыл бұрын
Hi, when I connect Rode VideoMicro mic with SC4 adapter to my iPhone 4, iPhone 4S or iPad Mini I get a really really low volume, did you had a similar experience with it? I've tried default Apple's camera recording and voice recording and sound is low. The only feedback I could get from RODE's support is that I should use their app for recording the voice so that I can get more gain to the mic with volume control, but what's the point if I can't record the video within the app... :P Thanks! :)
@Documentally8 жыл бұрын
Hi, is it compatible with the iphone4? Sounds like you need a powered mic.
@vedranart8 жыл бұрын
Tried it with all of these devices, and the sound gain is the same on all of them. Why are they selling their mic for smartphones if it can't get enough power to get the good quality sound without preamp?
@Documentally8 жыл бұрын
I haven't had that issue at all. Have you tested the cable you are using. Or the mic on another type of camera?
@vedranart8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, mic works fine with my Nikon D3200. Tho, I'm wondering if SC4 adapter has different wiring compared to SC7, that SC4 doesn't have grounding to the first ring or something like that... :P

any suggestion on how to mount this on a DSLR like the videomicro? Does it fit in the Lyre Shoe Mount?
@Documentally8 жыл бұрын
+Tor Ivan Boine It's a bit of a hack going that way round. If you need a mic to switch between sir and phone i'd stick with the micro and go for a mount on the phone. The MicMe has a TRRS adapter for the phone. the micro has TRS but is easily converted.

I'm having a problem with my videomic me and was wondering if you can help me. I just opened it brand new out of box. I recorded my 1st video and I'm getting a heartbeat noise on my video. The only way to make it go away is to plug a headset in. As soon as I unplug the headset the heartbeat comes back. I do have my phone in airplane mode also. I have an iPhone. Any advice would be helpful before I think about returning it. Thanks.

@Documentally8 жыл бұрын
I can't see how that is possible. Have you tried to use your phone outside in the wind? For me the main benefit is the windjammer. Hard to put one on the phone as it has three mics. Much easier to block wind noise this way.
