The girlfriend who stole the car is probably going to have to pay back a LOT more than just the parts costs. The OP is also entitled to punitive damages because the girlfriend knew full well exactly what she was doing, that it was a criminal action, and the reputation of the junkyard she hired to take it away. Additionally, there is probably a nice reward for the OP for providing evidence to the police enabling them to break up the criminal junkyard operation, especially if more stolen vehicles are found. So the OP is going to do just fine, and Karen girlfriend can look forward to having whatever wages she can make from now on garnished for the rest of her life.

interesting question, if I receive stolen goods but can prove I didn't know, can I still be charged? The most obvious example would be ebay. Although I'm pretty sure in this case, that doesn't apply, since junk yards should know what legal paperwork for a car looks like, and their behaviour heavily suggests that they knew it was stolen. @@Nerobyrne If you have absolutely no reason to have known the property was stolen (such as buying something on Ebay that isn't normally authenticated like they do with art or artifacts), and you willingly surrender the property and cooperate with authorities, there is a near-zero likelihood of being charged, particularly if the property is of minimal value. The authorities are generally allowed to charge you regardless, but it is a pointless waste of resources to do so when you didn't intentionally do anything wrong and they would rather get your cooperation in charging the actual thief. Really valuable items are best purchased from a reputable seller, and some things, like fine art, historical objects, firearms, really high-end jewelry, cars, or houses, definitely require appropriate documentation. Don't expect to safely buy a motorcycle online unless the seller has legitimate paperwork for it. So, go ahead and buy that weird lamp on Ebay. Retired special-needs pre-school teacher here. I always wrote a note to parents a week or so before the start of school. Among other subjects, I gave suggestions about appropriate apparel for school. I always told parents to dress their kids in comfortable, WASHABLE clothing. I told them if they chose to send their child in expensive clothing (I mean, for God's sake, who sends a pre-teen to school in a WHITE shirt?), they had better expect said clothing to get ruined. I made sure they understood it was on them. Not me, not their kid, and certainly not the other children!

I love the girlfriend's mom's response "you would let a car get in between you and your relationship?! You would let a car cause such a rift?!" Well the girlfriend certainly let the car get in between them, so why not? In a choice between the relationship and the car, she chose to go after the car rather than just be patient and let their partner finish fixing it. Older cars aren't simply fixed in a day or two, some people spend years or even decades trying to find the right parts, time to go get said parts, money to buy them, and time to spend putting the parts on the car. So in the end she let entitlement split them up, there was no reason they couldn't park elsewhere until it was done. OP even gave them several options such as the nearby trees if it was a hot day or the barn if all else.

I had an old truck, 1967 Ford F100 Ranger, that I was in the process of restoring. Anyways I had to leave town for a couple of months because of my job so I moved it to my parent's house and parked it outside near the garage. When I got back home, about 4 months later, I found out my dad got rid of it without telling me because as he put it, "I was tired of seeing it parked outside..." Something like that happend to me in Penticton B.C in 2009 i was renting a spot at a older widows yard where i was living in my 18 ft skipper camper . The winter weather was 32cel bellow zero so i stayed at afreinds place for two and a half months. I chopped my freinds fire wood as a way of payment, it took me 30 days to do it and my freind feed me as well. My elderly freinds son went to the place my skipper was and towed it away and dumped it on the side of a mountian road where any body else could of hooked it up and steal it. He did this behind my back and he never told me about it, let alone as me if he can move it! When i first seen it got moved i asked the old 84 year old widow who the F... Moved ny camper? And why? Because my rent at her place is still good for1 more month while im staying at my elderly freinds place. The widow said oh it was your fat freind with that huge white muscle truck. I said he isn't my freind and that he's a very jealous control freak who's always trying to manipulate me and control me. He's also very very self centered! So i tell Lennard that someone moved my camper with out my consent and he said we will go now to see it. I didnt tell him that the widow said it was him because i wanted to see what this peice of shit would say ir do . When we got there he go's holy shit! She really is crazy! I said nothing to him cause im in his truck and he's a phyicotic nut head. Even thoe he's the one who moved it to that spot he didnt even offer to move it back. He moved it there in hopes that id give the old widow shit and end up getting my self into even more trouble in wich the police have to step in. But i figured that out ahead of time. A month latter lennard yekls at me that fire wood you chopped at my dads place was nothing! I said what ever and then he grabs my hair with ine hand and punches me in the face with his other but only a love tap punch and he then points his finger at my face and say's to me now be quiet! I ran out of his house to his nabours house to call the police. They show up in 5 minutes and asked him if he punched me in the face and grabed my hair? He said no! The RCMP said to me they can't arrest him because he said he never laid a hand on me plus theres no bruse's on my face. I was totally flabbergastted! The cops said that i can stay in lennards yard with my camper for one week. I moved back to Vancouver B.C and 9 years latter in 2018 i see Lennard in a shopping mall in Vancouver B.C my God did he ever get even fatter that when i last saw him back in 2009 he weighed around 250 pounds but now he looks like he's 450 pounds. That much fat gain is his own karhma and he earned it! He too saw me in that mall cause i looked right at him with the look of discust in my eyes and he just stairs at me with that dumb poker face look. Never seen him again or since and don't ever want to ! He was allso a closet case that had an obsession over me but he' d never add mit it . I reckon I know what happened in story one. Karen:"THEY STOLE MY CAR BY TOWING IT!" Cop:"We'll review the footage, see what can be done.." *Later* CCTV shows you parking in a Handicapped Spot, are either you or any of your children handicapped? " Karen:" I'm pregnant " Cop:" Pregnancy is not a handicap. I advise you to call a cab and make plans about getting to the Impound Lot on January 2nd so as to pay your fine. " Karen:" REEEEEEE! "

The last story gets even better. The SIL keeps doing stuff like that the entire pregnancy, even goes as far as to give the baby a name that isn’t what the OP named her - and the family sided with the SIL. OP has now cut of them entire family.

I'm an old car guy, and as much as it hurt to hear of a guy's girlfriend tossing his project car, I'd say he got off light. A good relationship requires the ability to resolve disagreements in a way that both partners are, to some degree okay with. She could have tried convincing OP to get rid of the car or wrangling a promise that, once the car was together, she could park in the garage too. If she found the situation unacceptable, she could have made an ultimatum and left. Instead she got rid of the car while he was away. Doing this proved she didn't have the honesty and integrity to be a good partner. Even if OP had lost the car for good, it would have been worth it to get that woman out of his life.

A later addition to the story said that OP got his car and parts returned. So, happy ending. He also said he was aware of the SUPERNATURAL connection to the car, but he'd bought it because a relative had owned one.

I do wonder about the crazy Karen slapping a child. Seems to me that someone would call the cops before letting her go.
@loka77833 жыл бұрын
What I wonder about is what the entitled mother's circumstances were that made her go off like that? Methinks if the mother was financially stressed to a breaking point would account for her actions. This does not in any way excuse her hitting another child. I am also thinking that the mother may have been remorseful after she calmed down which could be the reason she moved away. Entitled people rarely acknowledge their actions have consequences but it is purely speculation on my part.
