On the "how bad do fur cons smell" thing, I'm in the UK so this could be different from the US but I've not really noticed cons in general smelling bad (at least no more than a normal building full of people) you get one or two people that you are like "my guy/gal, take a shower" but for the most part people are clean. Most furries that have a suit (only like 10% to 15%) will wash it between cons (they take days to fully dry out) so in a con people usually air them when not wearing them and have suit sprays that are basically perfume, also bear in mind most people are wearing under armour so as little sweat gets on the suit as possible anyway so your suit shouldn't get nasty after just a couple of days of use, even if you have it on for several hours and most people only have them on for like half a day at most. The amount of people that actually do anything sexual in suit is way smaller than people think, probs like 15% of the 10% that have a suit do it, off the top of my head (although bear in mind that is just what I've experienced so I could be wrong). The suits cost a ton (or take a long time to make) so you don't want to get it nasty by doing stuff in it, way more people do it with just the head on rather than a full suit anyway. Also, at least in the UK, it is considered a bit odd to wear a sexually usable suit in public and they must wear shorts or something if they have a zip exactly where you would image one being and if someone were to have sex in a suit and then wear it in public they would almost certainly be told to go change immediately if not out right told to leave the con, we are chill and freaky but we (at least most of us) have some limits lol.

And 3k is like the cheapest you are looking at for a full suit (unless you make it yourself), I personally know people who have paid 5k for them and I know of a 15k suit, although that one has loads of animatronics and lights and stuff as well as being big budget movie prop levels of realistic looking.

7:39 I think it has something more down to what each fursuit, outside of the fandom, it is used for. A lot of suit designers in the west also design mascot costumes, leading to that similar cartoony aesthetic. For the japanese fursuits, the closest analogues would be tokusatsu suit design, which is MADE to be moved in, even in the heaviest circumstances, so its really slim on the top in most instances, especially around the head and torso.
