Like what the hell man, you don't just estabilish freedom and democracy for all at once and you are done there, because you'l need to continue to keep fighting that your rights don’t get taken away. All those laws you mention got achived with alot of gruelling blood and sweat, and it’s nice to appreciate how far progress has come, yet you don’t stop pushing a cart till it reaches it’s destination. Somewhere, you are going to care more about your own cart reaching it’s destination than someone else’s lagging behind and you will put greater effort into saving your own progress. To give a specific example, Switzerland might already be near invincible from their geographical position to holding everyone’s money, but they don't just put all their trust in that alone- they still keep a well trained army, still maintain bunkers that can fit the entire population and more incase they get destroyed and has rigged the whole country so that with just a single button all the roads and bridges become unusable incase of an invasion, and are very picky to who they grant citizenship to. They don’t just stop their preservation efforts just because other countries are lagging behind. See where I'm getting at? I'm sorry if you got butthurt that the US isn't as perfect as you grew up beliving it was, but this isn't a case of “Us bad" as much as it is "Us could be much better". Look, my country might hold the best numbers of LBTQ rights in it’s ally group, but that's not much of a feat to brag about if the bar is already piss poor, and the rights are rapidly dissapearing to the point that the member with the lowest rights are 1% away from being on the same level of a fucking Russian puppet state. I don't know if I should either cry or laugh at that. This isn’t the sports team where "we are still fairly decent because we are on the midtier of the rank list" where we look at how my country is still higher than yours, it's a criteria of human rights being met where the only acceptable value is 100%. And okay even if we still look at how well other countries are doing compared to others..., maybe if you were from Málta and got accused of doing poorly I'd understand your reteliation, but this doesn't make sense. Hell even Montenegro has better values. If a shitty forgotten ex-Yugoslavia country can have high levels of LGBTQ rights that surpasses the economical powerhouses of Europe, then one of the wealthiest global powers has really nothing to bloat about. Agree, and they get called a homophobe and have zero comeback. Was quite fun for me..

Back in the 1990s, when I first came out, my response to the, "that's gay," insult was to come back with, "So… it sings along to showtunes in a piano bar?" Or: "It's an ardent fan of Liza?" [or Judy Garland, or Bette Midler, or whichever other Diva I felt like naming] Or: "It hits the gym 4 times a week?" Or anything else that I or other gay men of that decade did on the regular. And I'd always deliver these questions - usually at least 2 of them back to back - in the most confused tone of voice I could find.
@TheAwesomes21042 жыл бұрын
Today, my very close friend and co-worker said "Dude, remember back in the day when we could say 'That's Gay" meaning something was stupid, And it wasn't a big deal, and nobody got all offended over it. I sort of miss that, it was fun." And I just said " Uh, no, I don't remember that, but also I don't recall being a straight, white, cis, man who could degrade other identities without recompense because of my privilege, so maybe that's why... Also, if I tell your bisexual fiancé you said that, and if she decides not to spend the rest of her life with you, well, she already has my number." Btw, he's not homophobic, just a bit ignorant due to the whole straight, white, cis man thing. (And for context, I'm an AFAB pansexual.)

The intro to the porn where they are talking about baseball and chess reminds me of how porn (well at least gay porn) from my experience depicts the use of consent quite regularly now a days. I remember someone at work arguing that consent is sometimes hard to clearly give/get if there are language barriers and other communication issues and I was like "dude I watched a porn last night where a French and American guy that couldn't speak to each other hooked up after finding each other via a hookup app specifically for getting laid, and they STILL worked out consent before they started mauling each other! Interesting, in the game there's a part where you can hit on Kanji and Yosuke gets mad about it. I thought it was just homophobia, but maybe he's jealous. Kanji I'd say either bi/pan, or maybe just gay. He did fall for the most masculine of the "girls" and seem unimpressed by Rise crushing on him. My most recent playthrough I found myself wondering if Nauto is ace, although maybe they're just figuring themselves out and not ready for romance.

Especially since not teaching about LGBTQ* is simply incomplete and therefore incorrect sex education. There simply are not only heterosexual kids, so only teaching kids about heterosexual relationships does not fully represent the reality and to LGBTQ* children that's as good as a lie! A very toxic one, at that! When I first realized that I feel attracted to other boys, I legitimately thought I was a freak or insane, an extremely rare exception and the only one boy far & wide who was into boys, meaning I could probably never find a boyfriend, because I've never been taught anything about homosexuality, I've only heard the term a couple of times as an absurdity presented in comedies and concluded that it must be either too rare to be worth talking about, or really be despised by the society I live in. None of it was true, but I thought that for many months or even several years and it was only when I discovered adult videos that I slowly realized other hay people exist and I'm not an unfortunate one-in-a-million case, condemned to a miserable life of never experiencing intimacy with someone else. And even then it took a couple more years to find supportive voices and realize I'm not scum for being gay and don't need to hide. I've been fighting myself over this from age 12 to almost age 17 and all those years of agony, self-hatred and identity crisis could've been entirely avoided, if O had been told as a child that I could also fall in love with boys, rather than that I WILL love girls one day, because I'm a boy. 😪💁♂️ I hope that enough people finally understand the pain it causes for some kids, so that schools can finally stop teaching "heteronormative sex education", or as I call it: the straight lie!

I'm pansexual, And once I realized it, I never was ashamed of it. However, with a very religious and homophobic Evangelical family in the Bible Belt, I still have to worry about getting hate crimed or disowned for it. Repression is so real. I feel like that's why it took me so long to discover that I was also attracted to women. Turns out I don't like men so much as I like the convenience and safety of being able to pass as a boring straight person. (Also, straight men are easy and everywhere, So it's not exactly slim pickin's.) Didn't help either that society sexualizes women so thoroughly that I didn't realize that it was gay to find other women sexy. I literally just thought that everyone found women sexy. And then I went to college and was finally around other women my age who I hadn't known since kindergarten, then it all started to come together.

I live in Germany, and "gay" is still an insult. At least where I live. I always get into discussions with the people in my school who frequently use gay as an insult. I can't make it stop but I'm trying my best to play my part. I like saying stuff like: "and if they were gay, what about it?", "what's wrong with being not-straight?", "why would you judge that?". While it may be a way to make people suspect stuff about me, I do not care the slightest. And to be honest, people assume stuff anyways as soon as you don't openly show attraction to the opposite gender as it's the case with me. I don't experience attraction to any gender, so everyone who knows about me probably being ace/aroace is assuming I'm just either gay or straight but just in denial, therefore I might aswell not give a fck. How will they know about gay things if they ain't interested in those? If they not interested in those activities they cannot judge about the "gayness" of things and if they go on with explaining what they actually meant (something that's weird or ideotic or boring) it is 1. The same problem, how do they know that gay is something boring for them so they could use it as a metaphor for it if they haven't tried it at least once and 2. They dismantle themselves as dumb and/or homophobic, witch is actually a pretty well known behavior for men that have latent homoerotic phantasies, wich they cannot comprehend, as very old studies had shown. The decoy Sailor story kinda reminds me of the reason why only men are allowed to perform in Japanese Kabuki Theaters. So the story goes about like this: Way back in 1603 there was this shrine maiden called Izumo no Okuni, who started to dance in an at that time thought weird manner at the riverbed of the Kamo River in Kyoto (there's a Statue of her at approximately the same place. It's right in the middle of Kyoto). Her performances then quickly gathered a few more co-performers and a huge amount of fans, to the point that her new style of dance drama quickly got known all around Japan with many rival troops popping up. Now about the above reminding bit: At that time it was still typical for kabuki to be played entirely by woman (no matter if in need for male oriented and female oriented characters). Thing is the Japanese government didn't really like that the kabuki theaters developed the issue of those performers starting to earn extra income with adult funtime side businesses. So they considered banning Kabuki; but Kabuki was too popular for that. So they instead banned Woman from performing in Kabuki. Thing is.... The issue was not dealt with. Instead the Men who picked up on the performances also picked up on the side hustle all the same. Thinking that it would maybe solve the issue this time, they then banned young men from performing Kabuki. (So for a while it was only middle aged or older men who performed all the roles.) Thing is.... The old men really went at it and the hustle kept strong. So in the end the Japanese Government gave up at least part way and let the young men back at it again. ("weirdly" enough not the women though.... I guess they expected the "issue" to get worse if they did) Which is why Kabuki is 100% only performed by men to this day. (I'm not sure if such a law is still intact or not. I'm pretty sure it's really just a 'tradition' thing by now and not a law or anything like that)

Sexism against women is tradition in many places. Historically, men stealing women’s jobs and banning us from them is pretty common. Metal forging, farming, hunting, government/major community decisions, land wealth/ownership, acting, dancing, writing/education, etc, all women’s jobs first that were taken over by men and eventually banned women altogether, usually because of religion or pure jealousy and control.

I’ve worked at summer camps for years: I’ve called my colleagues (some of whom I see during the rest of the year) silly names for months, which would often change from one year to another, sometimes even three times per summer. If we screwed up once by calling a colleague by their real name, it would ruin the magic for the kids, so even if we came close sometimes, we almost never did. We would give each other horrified looks if it happened. CALLING SOMEONE BY A NEW NAME IS NOT HARD.

"Why do I need to come out? If you still think I'm straight, then that's on you." is my exact opinion as well. None of my heterosexual siblings had to sit down with the family and disclose their sexuality, so why would I? Over 20% of the adults in my generation identify as LGBTQ. For perspective, only 16.7% of the US population wear contacts, but they still ask at the DMV if you wear corrective lenses, as it would be willfully ignorant to just ignore the possibility when the corrective lenses aren't blatantly obvious. You know when people find out I wear contacts? When they ask or if it naturally comes up. Wanna guess how people find out I'm queer?

2:20 Back in the 1990s, we had to do this _in the US._ Because you could be arrested under "anti-sodomy laws" in many states if 2 people of the same sex so much as asked for a room with one bed when checking into a hotel. Many of us just avoided going to those states. And, the way things are going, in another 2-4 years, we in the US will have to avoid certain states yet again.

Even checking my bank statements to figure out where I was. (I was 19 and full financially independent). Then the rest of my family when they showed me time and time again that my feelings in all this didn’t matter. That all that mattered is that I hurt my parents. So I just decided to cut them all off.
