Fun fact: the casting couch submission was submitted by a professional miniature maker to show how BS the idea of the competition's judges being objective was. It got 3rd place, before being disqualified for its content. Meanwhile in a separate division at the same event, he won first place with his primary submission.

In defense of Captain America, he's of Irish descent, and in the time he grew up in he probably faced quite a bit of racism himself since the Irish were considered barely better than people of color, if not in the same league. If anything he would possibly be proud to wake up in a future where the barriers that the racism of his time constructed had weakened enough for a black person to rise to a position of authority.

If I remember correctly, on the cheating one, that's actually a thing. The cheater is usually the one really trigger happy about calling out supposed cheating because they know THEY would cheat, so they jump to it much more readily as an accusation than people ordinarily would.

It is "most". I got really lonely and depressed post-partum. Fiancé was working 12 hour shifts and I had so little interaction with adults. My MIL's partner suggests that my fiancé is cheating... because she found out that my MIL had cheated on her. This thought fessered for days like, "It can't be true!" But he would leave an hour before he had to clock in. I finally confronted him, and he was genuinely confused. Turned out that he would stop at the gas station on the way to work to get an energy drink. Driving was his quiet time away from coworkers, new baby, etc. Plus, his regular commute was during the "get kids to school" rush. There was no cheating. I felt isolated (we've worked on that), and I have not forgiven my MIL's partner for putting that idea in my head.

In the Dutch language, we have a saying "Zoals de waard is, vertrouwt hij zijn gasten.", which translates to "As the inn-keeper is himself, that's how he trusts his guests.". Basically, a thief thinks everyone else is a thief too and a cheater thinks others must also be cheating, because they literally cannot imagine other people not being criminals, frauds and cheats whenever they have the chance (because that's how they roll, themselves). Sadly, there's plenty of truth to that saying, I've found throughout life... 🤷‍♀️

Steve Rogers grew up poor in New York and joined the army as an impressionable teenager. He had an idealistic worldview and "hated bullies." He probably wouldn't have gotten a chance to internalise any strong opinions about race, so the first time he encountered a black person being confident and intelligent, he would have just shrugged "Oh, I guess that stuff people say about them is wrong" and been open to learn from there. One of the Howling Commandos was black. Steve probably respected him, and when he first met Sam Wilson the first thing he noticed/cared about was the military symbol on his sweater. It doesn't matter what era you're from or what racist things you're taught. Good people are willing to unlearn things. Racists want to hate.

@hawkeyescoffee6399
@hawkeyescoffee6399 2 ай бұрын
Exactly. The very reason he was chosen in the first place was because of his character. He was respectful to a woman in a position of authority when many weren't, was willing to throw himself on a grenade to save lives. Pretty sure if he'd even had any racial bias in the first place, then it was probably gone by the time he was crossing n@zi Europe with the rag tag band of Howlies of mixed backgrounds. So I doubt it would have bothered him, but there would have been a learning curve too, because language had definitely shifted a lot. And not just when it comes to that. I don't think MCU had the room to explore it, tbh. Then, of course, the original Nick Fury in the comics was a white guy. Until, in the early 2000s 'Ultimate' 'verse, he was remodelled on Samuel L. Jackson, allegedly, they neglected to ask him, but when he did find out he said he was OK with them continuing to use his likeness as long as he was given first consideration to play the role if they ever put Fury in a movie (idk if it's even true, it's something I read a while back, but it sounds like something he would do...I saw an interview with him, where he was talking about when he signed on for a 9 movie deal back at the beginning for Iron Man (so pre-2008), and how he didn't think he would be alive to make them all... not realising they would film a lot simultaneously or back-to-back; and seems to me he even if they'd takem 18-20 months on each movie, would still have been wrong, anyway, because thankfully, he is still kickin 16 years later...but he ended up doing more than he expected, think...12, if I'm counting right, not including the various TV series.)

Ugh, gotta love when people think you are younger than you are by quite a bit. At one point I had a co-worker fresh out of high school who learned we'd gone to the same high school, but couldn't figure out why he couldn't recognize me. Eventually he came to the conclusion I must've been a junior who graduated early and he just didn't recognize me because we didn't share any classes. Which would've made me 17. It was a university pool, and I was on the aquatics management team, that not only did you need to work there for six months to even apply to it (and six months before that would've been April when, by his theory, I would've still been in high school in a different city), you needed to be 18 (insurance reasons). Yeah, the reason he didn't recognize me was because when I was starting uni he was starting 8th grade. I was five years older than him and he thought I was a year younger. Also had a similar thing happen when I mentioned I'd been with my partner for five years and someone flipped out that my parents let me start dating at 8. Yeah, they thought I was 13, when I was 24.

@@Dressup_Doll ugh, that's the worst. I went with my egg donor to a store that was handing out free coupons when you walked in. She was handed one immediately, but when I put my hand out I was told in a very insulting 'talking down to a little kid' voice "Sorry, you need to be at least 18". I replied back "Last time I checked 21 was over 18" and they still refused to hand it over. So I pulled out my license, and I live in a state where under 21 licenses are vertical, and 21+ are horizontal, so it was obvious I was an adult. They still deliberated if I was old enough. 🤦 I also had mall security try to kidnap me when I was 18, because apparently you needed to be at least 12 to be in the mall alone. Took me five minutes of being ordered to go with them to the office, and me refusing till they told me why, to get that bit of information. Because I'd been in the mall for less than 5 minutes and knew I hadn't done anything.

The first time wasn't, but definitely the subsequent times. To put it, the first time was WORK, a random person, entirely unrelated, would give her money if she had a guy show up in her content. She established boundaries around him VERY SPECIFICALLY not getting attached to her, or it being more than just her being paid by someone to do it. It no longer became WORK with him paying for subsequent sessions. Because he IS attached to her, it no longer was work, and it was outright coercion as he paid for her to do it with him, when she made it clear that without the money she would never do it otherwise. Not to mention - CONSENT CAN BE REVOKED. She absolutely wouldn't consent to any of this if she knew it was him paying, and that says enough.

23:01 idk if anyone explained this yet so I'll put it down for context. The meme is a reference to a Manga (adapted as an anime by Mappa last year) called Chainsawman. The red haired girl in the meme, to put it shortly, has a major superiority complex which is how her 'power' works and she considers everyone as beneath her AND she fell for a majorly powerful devil who resembled a dog (she's also a devil) AND she treats the main character like a dog (MC is related to the devil resembling dog) So it's basically a meme that kinda encompasses the core of the Chainsawman manga.

Doesn't really make sense, does it? Regardless, he's not technically doing anything wrong (assuming the story is true), he's just a customer in her business and she approached him first. I work at a hotel. Most of the things at 11:04 might seem comical, but people actually think they're improving their security by doing a bunch of stupid shit like this. Not only does most of it not work, it just creates safety hazards for the guest in the event of an emergency. You have a phone in your room, generally speaking you hit 0 on the line and tell them someone is trying to get into your room. Most places have at least one employee who's been hoping to violently eject someone for months, and we will happily send them to deal with it. Anybody motivated enough to get past your lock, deadbolt, and slide latch is either a maintenance tech who thinks your room is empty and will get in no matter what you did to the door (at which point just say something and they'll fuck off) or not going to be stopped by whatever home alone bullshit you do. Meanwhile if there's a fire in your room (and let's face it, these clowns are the ones who are gonna microwave a fork and not know it's a dumb idea) or some other emergency we're gonna be calling your next of kin to explain why we found you in a tangled mess of random bullshit because you thought everyone and their mother cares enough about you to try and get into your room.

33:47 if we exclude movie trailers, the most frequent types of advertising I get on youtube are either scams or products that are illegal in my country sold by some of my compatriots from outside the EU. Why aren't advertisements more moderated? And why can't we report those advertisements/block the advertising accounts?

Until strict rules and regulations are in place and enforcefld, I will never not run as blockers. I get calls weekly at work where Call Microsoft, you have been hacked pop ups alhave taken over someone's site. When I talk with the users these popups happen when accessing their client's websites. (Internet history backs it up) I even had a user who had one of those served up from the news widget on the task bar that Microsoft forced out.

First time I encountered a giant, I was heading to Whiterun at the beginning. I was casually strolling through the fields, picking flowers and stealing crops, when this lady ran up to me. She's like "no thanks to YOU, we defeated it." And I turn around and there's a giant on the ground not ten feet behind me.

29:06 that cup is awesome. I got in trouble early on in the pandemic for bringing in a bleach bottle as a water bottle (very well cleaned, still not a great idea…) and drinking it in front of my boss or customers. After that shift, they never said anything about my “Diet Clorox” tshirt…
@seigeengine

It's actually one of the best things you could use as a water bottle, discounting the risk of accidentally drinking a real bottle of bleach out of habit. You can even use bleach to sanitize water for drinking in an emergency, you just have to know how to do it.

26:26 FunFact: The Nok Civilization, which existed in what is today Nigera from 1500BC-1BC left behind such amazing artifacts and artwork, that Racist 19th & 20th Century Whites were convinced that it was a "Lost Ancient Greek Colony." The thought that Black People could make such things was incomprehensible to them.   Well, _suck rocks, racists!_ Not only were the Nok that advanced, they actually _independently invented ironworking_ without first doing bronze-work. You see, iron is _notoriously difficult_ to work. Every other civilization either learned it from those who had ironworking technology already, or they first learned how to work copper, then bronze, and only after mastering bronzeworking did they finally figure out how to work iron. _And the Nok skipped forward right to iron,_ unlike every other civilization. That's like a freshman in high-school [9th grade] skipping algebra and trigonometry and taking calculus with the seniors [12th grade] because they're just _that_ smart.

Okay, so gist right, framing bad. The history of metallurgy in sub Saharan Africa is complicated and suffers from a lack of sufficient evidence. Generally speaking, it's unclear, but it's believed that iron and copper metallurgy were developed and spread simultaneously in sub Saharan Africa. It's also not strictly an upgrade. That is, you don't need anything of bronze metallurgy to do iron metallurgy. It's just that that's the common path. Strictly speaking, iron is more common anyway. One suggestion I read is that differences in trees in different regions may have enabled reaching higher temperatures, but I don't know to what extent that's actually true or relevant to It also wasn't specifically the Nok

7:20 i had this but I was the other person. Back in August I was attending a work conference in an urban center. I presented (hence black pants, button down shirt and tie), then went out to eat. On my way back from the restaurant i walked past an alley way and saw a guy next to a dumpster. So i thought he was dumpster diving. Thus, i offered him a protein bar I had in my bag (conferences are long, so snacks are a must). Turns out he was just taking a leak. I was mortified.

I'll be "that person" and argue that he's not wrong since anime is just short for animation, but also we know what you mean. I use both terms interchangeably because it's fun to talk about my favorite Japanese cartoons and American anime with friends from both countries. 😅

9:00 the artist who made that also submitted another one on that context and as I remember he won with this one but only after he won did the judges found out what this was, if my memory serves me right the judges wanted to quickly just hush him away with it while allowing him to be the winner... also his other work was like the 2nd or I don't remember ... all I remember is that it was intentionally like a social test from the artist.

26:12 This reminds me of when my mom told me that someone thought she was 52. She's 44. Full story: She had a baby in April 2024, and she is at an age where it was VERY surprising for this to happen. So, she's walking into one store, and after goes to an adjacent store, where a woman walks up to her and says something about how her [the womans] daughter said, "See that lady over there with the baby? She's 52." A, why are you saying this about a stranger without full knowledge? B, why is this your business again? And C, why are you telling MY MOM THIS?? Ngl, if she'd look pretty good for being 52. Kinda glad I wasn't there, because if the daughter of the other woman was just BSing then she DEFINITELY would've said that I'm actually the mom. I'm 15, but I look a little older, and 3 people thought that my mother is actually the grandmother, and I'm the mom. Someone even congratulated me, but I stupidly said, "Thank you," and in my head I'm going, "WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT???" Of course, I was watching my brother in a corner with nobody near me, while my mom was checking out, so it looked to be the case. Honestly sucks that we've gotten to an age where people who aren't even legal adults are seen as parents... 😞
