Fun fact regarding the "African samurai" there was actually a real African samurai. He was a slave on a ship that stopped in Japan and a local lord was so impressed by his size and the colour of his skin that he bought him from the slave owner and made him a retainer. Long story short his prowess in battle was such that he earned his freedom and gained the rank of samurai

Anyone who would say anime is an escape from politics hasn't watched much anime. So many of them have politics, discussions of religion, war, environmentalism, etc. i.e., any of the Gundam Wing series, any Studio Ghibli movie (always environmentalism and/or politics involved), Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop (they regularly bring up politics and commercialism), Outlaw Star, etc. Anime doesn't ignore the serious topics. It just provides a different avenue for depicting them from different perspectives.

Like imagine watching Grave of the Fireflies and saying Ghibli doesn't make political films. 😭 Miyazaki got an Oscar for Spirited Away, but refused to come to the states to recieve it was because he was against the Iraq War. One of the primary focuses of many of his films is the destruction of nature and how capitalistic growth and fighting against nature instead of living alongside it is dangerous. And that's just the "kids movies" studio.

I think that the guy pissed at his "immature" girlfriend (and seriously, you're 9-10 years apart; what did you expect?) is just mad that he's lost his leverage over her. I mean, she was a 20-something student sharing an apartment with 4 other people, and he was in his 30s with a stable job. That's just an inherent power imbalance. She probably had little to no fun money, so he was the one in charge of what frivolous things she got, and she'd always "owe him" in a sense for anything he helped her with or bought her. Now she's not reliant on him at _all,_ and I suspect he's also jealous that she has so much disposable income after her financial goals for the month are met. Oh, and that she's not lavishly spending it on _him_ (because she owes him) or saving up to buy "herself" a house.

However, he is right about the renting. If you have the capability to save up money and you are renting, you will want to eventually, the sooner the better, buy a place to live. Every year you rent you are throwing away tens of thousands of dollars, or more, and just giving it to your landlord for absolutely nothing, and that's after they pay for maintenance and taxes on the property. You can't even take rent paid off your taxes.
@rolfs2165

I would actually appreciate a guy asking about the budget. Because I'll be honest, I would bring it up because I have every intention of splitting the bill always. The only time anybody gets to pay for food is if they trick me, or the weird game that we play when my family is involved and everyone is constantly trying to pay for the bill for everyone for some weird reason. When that happens basically I keep tally and make sure that I pay back by paying for another meal. Yes I literally keep a tally. For example my friend Quan has mastered the art of somehow managing to pay the bill anytime I go to the bathroom, so I owe him two events now. But I'm wise to it now, so I'm going to go to the bathroom before the event and then talk to the person who has the bill ahead of time, lol.

Sending you hugs, love, and extra spoons! (If you want them, of course.) I agree with Morgan; I am so proud of you, too. It takes a heroic level of courage to admit that you have struggled with EDs. Anyone who says something stupid or hateful to you about your medical history is revealing _their own_ lack of empathy, intelligence, compassionate curiosity, morality, strength, consideration, and thoughtfulness. The fault is in them, _never_ in you. They are so weakly insecure that they'd rather hurt people than ask a question. Meanwhile, you've not only overcome the biology which made you susceptible to developing EDs, trained your brain to develop new pathways, managed your emotional and physical responses any time you experienced elevated stress and/or relapse, overcome the inertia of force of habit, accepted that there have been consequences from the EDs, believed in your self-worth, and fought through the bureaucracy of doctors and the medical system to get yourself help. Most of all, you've continuously made the choice to value yourself enough to fight back against the darkness which tries to consume you, knowing that the battle may become easier with time and practice, but it doesn't just go away. You're a damn tough rockstar; you deserve to be celebrated! 🩵🤗🫂💖

Struggled with bulimia for several years as a teen (along with a whole host of other things), was never "underweight" and hid it well so it got ignored. I also had a lot of muscle which meant I was heavier than I looked but it was mostly just related to other mental health issues. That particular issue does still come up occasionally but I couldn't help but laugh recently when I went our drinking with a group of people and ended up overdoing it which resulted in me throwing up in the street, a couple of people said something along the lines of "wow, I've never seen someone throw up silently and cleanly before" and I had to explain to them that oh yeah, that's from the bulimia where I had to be silent because the walls in the house were paper thin. People joke about that sort of thing without realising that it's a real problem that can have lifelong effects on your physical health and just because someone looks a certain way you don't know their past or what they might have struggled with

Here's a sad face palm moment about religious people and evolution. So I grew up in a very religious household and was also raised to think that people who believe in evolution were silly (then I went to college and learned what evolution actually is) anyway, my mom and dad as part of an anniversary trip, took a trip to The Ark, and I guess a "christian archeologist" determined that the animals on Noah's Ark looked different than today's animals (like wow, what a concept that clearly the religious folk came up with first) Anyway, in a weird way, I thought this was a good thing because I thought that now christians can lose this silly misguided concept of evolution, and I began to tell my mom as such...she then interrupts me and says "Actually it's not evolution, they were just the ancestors of our modern day animals".... I just kept my mouth shut

I'm personally convinced the only reason The Troll thinks that Hermione and Harry should've ended up together is that she became too friendly with the movie writer. I remember watching interviews with them when the first or second movie came out and him saying that Ron wasn't worth her and Hermione was his favourite character and she was so smart and she was awesome, etc., etc. At the time The Troll disagreed with him! She said that Ron and Hermione were a better couple in the long run because they called each other out on their bull, and how Harry isn't that nice to her in his head at all, and a few other points. And now she's backing down on it!!! It's like she read a fanfic of her own characters, forgot why she had the story written the way she did and then decided "ya know what, this guy has a point." ABOUT HER OWN STORY!! Girl.

It's also valid to talk about "silly" side topics like "i'm gonna miss her boobs", this is part of grief and it's fine. The issue here is the priorities. The fact that the wife didn't get counseling for her OWN cancer or the fact that OP does not express concern for his actual girlfriend and her health, those are issues. Support groups are great!

it's sad, because the worst part of it is that boobs is only fat there. like a ball lof fat hanging. U can lose them due to an illness, anorexia or excessive muscle mass. And you're not less of a woman for losing them in whatever way, whether temporal or forever(im talking about cis women who lost theirs) it's not even an organ determined by dna, because if a woman, or a transgender man take testosterone, they totally disspapear or partially, plus if you train your chest even more. What makes them be boobs is the hormone, if u stop taking it, or you supress the hormone with pills, it will disappear. By the logic of boobs equals woman, an anorexic and bodybuilder woman, both with barely to no boobs, arent women anymore. 🤡 hormones play like an 80% in one's appearence, if you take the opposite sex hormones eventually u wont look like a woman or man anymore. So yeah its stupid to reduce a piece of fat to a sex. It'd be different if you said xx=female and xy=male(in terms of sex), but its not even that

I completely get the girl buying cool things now that she has such a good job’s reaction to her partner. I’m a law student and was talking to some of my classmates about how to motivate yourself to complete a particularly tedious project and discovered that we all have a ‘dream’ object that we’d like to buy. Everything from Lego sets, diamond rings, anime figurines, fancy watches and sports cars. All of us have something that ourselves or a loved one looked at when we were younger and said ‘when I have money I’ll own that/buy it for you’. If I had a partner that told me I couldn’t/shouldn’t buy my dad the expensive watch he always looks at when he thinks my mum and I are looking at jewellery or the anime figurine of my favourite character from when I was 10 that I’ve dreamed of owning once I was on a lawyer’s salary I’d probably be quite mad. People think bullying among kids is just "ya can't sit w/ us LOSER" or "LMAO Billy has a phone from 2008, hes POOR" caliber. Those people don't realize that a.) kids are actually capable of learning morality and respect and empathy by displaying a lack of it and hopefully feeling guilty afterwards b.) in the learning process they can be complete sociopaths c.) they cause as much harm, or even worse as adult throwing a punch Speaking from experience, this is just one of they ways adults underestimate the impact children have. Yup, in my small hometown we had a kid in my grade commit suicide in the school locker room. We were in middle school- I think I was like 13 at the time. We had a terrible class of boys that would bully this guy a lot. The girls would mostly just watch, a couple joined. The teachers wouldn’t do anything but maybe punish both the bully and a victim. Some of the teachers even joined in the bullying. It was no surprise when one day we got called to an assembly about what happened. The school was quick to talk about that incident (because they didn’t help) but they wouldn’t plan anything for the anniversary of 2 students that got into an accident and died. The students that knew those kids were very upset because they were just a couple months away from graduating last year

Just call it for what it is, the modern day slavery with various things streamlined in favor of the slave owners. You get to make the owner rich while making as little as possible and the company owns you while you are there. You can bet if they could get away with it, they would try to get employees to live at the company and work 12-18 hours a day seven days a week. They only care about the money you make them. As soon as you don't make them money, you are replaced. In the USA, most people are literally working paycheck to paycheck at a dead-end job because they know there are ten other hungry people willing to take their job if they get fired for asking for a raise. I almost lost my temper when I asked my last employer for a reasonable cost of living raise. They went off on me saying they can't afford it everything is so expensive and they themselves are living on chicken since they can't afford beef. However, they have a new giant SUV with new tires in a house they own while I was living in a mobile home on rented land living a vegetarian diet because meat was too expensive to even buy and putting off car repairs because of cost. It wasn't like I was some new employee either. I had been working there for over six years with no raises in two years.

He is trying to stop that before she realizes it. My ex husband was exactly the same. When we got together I seemed more naive than I actually was I just didn't know it at the time. As soon as I found a better paying job and became more independent my ex went into panic mode trying to discourage me as much as possible, became more and more controlling, and irrational. It didn't take long to leave after I started to finally see all the nonsense with him i missed beforehand.

As a non-binary here's my list. Keep in mind that "Bad dates" can totally work later in a relationship, with lots more trust in each other. However, as for first dates... here's the list: Good first dates: [ ] Beach and ice cream date. [ ] Cute Café (coffee + bakery) date [ ] Panera bread date [ ] Bowling (drinks + food included) date Bad first dates and why it's bad: [ ] Cheesecake factory (too loud inside, making it hard to talk to each other) [ ] Movies/Live Sports Events/Live Concerts (usually don't get to actually talk to the other person very much/ leaves little time to get to know each other) [ ] Either person's house (makes you feel like you're already a missing person/ this is where I die) [ ] Double dates/family meetings (too much too fast/ feels like their trying to pressure you into staying around longer since they already introduced you to friends and family) [ ] Burgerking/ Jack-in-the-box/ McDonalds (feels like you're cheaping out on them and don't care too much. It's better to go to a local and cheap than fast food cheap.)

As someone who lives with quite severe chronic illnesses, the husband support group when the wife is sick hit close to home. I've seen more "support group for relatives", I've even gotten leaflets from my health care provider to give to my spouse. The support group for me? Oh, had to find that myself (on Facebook or pay to join a patient advocacy group for the illness or type of illness) and then the doctors say support groups are just complainers. Which is inherintly untrue, I've learnt SO MUCH from those groups, both scientific research on my illness and just how to live with it without losing hope. Those groups have literally saved lives, and mourned several losses. The community is amazing. Doctors though... If the support groups are so bad, offer some "better" support groups then? Like you do for the relatives. Or better yet, have some empathy for your patients. I've been to doctors who's just dismissed me because they don't have knowledge of my illness. They don't look it up, they just decide not to believe in it? Wild. So I started bringing an older, male relative to doctors visits. All of a sudden the tune changed, and there was sympathy! To the male relative... "It must be so hard to see your young relative suffer" hello, I'm right here? Nope.

Most of my classmates wouldn't turn on their cameras and the profs probably felt like they were talking at a depressing silent black void. One of my profs sent us all a message before classes started asking us to please turn on our cameras for this reason and luckily a bunch of people did. It ended up being the most engaged class I had during COVID (actually, more engaged than before COVID too) because the class had so many interesting conversations since we were on more equal footing all together on Zoom. Even the chat was bustling with great side convos. It was a class where being virtual actually increased engagement, and all because our prof made that request and we obliged ❤

At one point, one of the trainers was talking about activities we could organize to help younger members warm up to the associations, and she added that there are some activities which only work when there's more room. She said "We need a big room because otherwise it's gonna be homophobic" Immediately everyone went silent. The trainer was confused. The other trainer, sitting behind her, was just quietly watching her. One of the students asked "Why homophobic?" "Because it's gonna be crowded" the trainer insisted Another student asked "And what's that have to do with homosexual people?" The poor trainer looked so confused as she said "Nothing. I was saying that it's gonna be crowded so it's homophobic" You could feel everyone's confusion in the silence that followed. I still joke about it with my friends. The first date list makes me think that the woman may not understand or care that a man who is good at picking up dates may go on a lot of first dates until he finds a woman he actually likes. Meaning if he's going out somewhere that costs $20+ a plate, he's going to go broke in a month or two. I love that the first one was Cheesecake Factory, because that's the place the "I made my date wait an hour" lady refused to get out of the vehicle at. "Child marriages safe". I had no problem with Greta Thunberg before this. Thought she was a cool person. But context is important. An octopus plushie isn't inherently antisemitic (I have a couple myself). This wasn't some random picture of her that had a plushie in it though. She was posting an anti-Israel post in which she and three other people held up signs. There was nothing else in the photo but them, the signs, and the octopus. And it was purposefully placed at the edge of an armrest (not just sitting in the background with other stuff). Context is important. Just like the "A Okay" hand gesture got taken on by white supremacists. If you're using it to say "yum, delicious pizza!" Well then, you're fine. But right-wing politicians have used it at rallies/hearings to show a sign of support for white supremacy. People aren't trying to say that octopus dolls are bad. They're fine. What they're getting upset about is that she had something in her photo that given the context can represent antisemitism. She may not have known what it meant, which is probably why she took the photo down. But someone who was in the photo with her, or who helped stage the photo (since that was the only other object in the picture) definitely knew what it meant.

I think the worst part about sNipewolf situation isn't even her response. Like, yeah, it's very corporate and scummy, but when that came out, KZbin had already PUSHED SOME OF THE BLAME onto Jacksfilms, by claiming "both parties were at fault" It's horrible and disgusting that they would do that, let alone not follow through with the intended punishment, which was tweeted out a few days prior. (Someone asked Team KZbin what the punishment would be if they were to dox someone on Twitter, and were told they would be removed from KZbin, as that's a violation of their TOS) So I don't even think Snipswolf is the worst offender in this. Porch pirating exists in places where delivery drivers are on a schedule. To complete their rounds within the scheduled times, they have to leave packages on the front porch and continue their delivery runs, rather than ring the doorbell and get addressees to sign for them. Once upon a time, if you didn't answer the door, they made out a Post-It style slip saying they were sorry they missed you, where and when you could pick it up (if you needed it that day), and when they would next attempt a delivery.
