I would never live in a HOA neighborhood. "The flowers in your yard are the wrong color" Stuff like that is just CRAZY.
@cydnicaldwell13374 жыл бұрын
Yes, just that, but add in the color of your roof the front door(s) what type of door or screen door you can have as well as the style of windows you can use and there's more in some places where you can't even have your garage door open or anyone parked in your driveway. If, fate willing, I ever rent or buy a home - it will not be in an HOA because, imo, HOAs are a waste of money and an extra expense not needed for home owners - unless they're idiotic. Real Estate sales will fluctuate depending on what the market will bear on pricing. Being in an HOA to keep your property values high - don't buy in or drink the powdered drink mix. Because, eventually everyone on the board will become assholes and wanna be dictators or despots.

If HOA's stuck to supervising the upkeep of the common property and only fining residents for blatant violations, eg letting trash pile up in your yard, nobody would have a problem with them. It is ridiculous petty complaints like the grass being slightly too long and even telling residents what colour curtains they can have in their own house that makes people hate HOA's.

They plow the roads in the winter and have a parcel that wasn't developed right at the entrance that was turned into a small walking path area. Yes, you have to get permission when you update your roof if you want to change color when it's replaced (basically nothing super crazy for new colors) and to maintain your home to a reasonable standard. They let it slide for several months when my parents had to replace part of the siding due to storm damage as they knew that it had to be ordered. But no nasty gram letters etc.

I live in an apartment complex where we aren't allowed to put anything on the doors- no decorations, nothing. There's more than 30 apartments over three floors and all the doors look the same. I've heard countless neighbor's children trying to get into my apartment after they've gotten turned around. I normally just ignore it and the kid figures out that their key isn't working and figure out they have the wrong door. The worst is when young men move in with roommates, they come home drunk, mistake my apartment for theirs and loudly bang on the door. Although, to be fair, my mom took in my best friend when she got kicked out of her dad's house as a teen, and there was once that she walked into a neighbor's apartment thinking it was ours and got the police called on her lol. And yeah, I still live in the apartment I grew up in with my mom, I had to move back in after a spine injury that left me unable to walk for a couple years. HOAs and apartment complexes should allow for some sort of small decoration on each house/apartment, if not to stop people from walking into the wrong residence, to help ambulance figure out where they need to go easier!

Dear HOA inspector who likes to write down trash can violations: Have you ever heard of learned the word handicapped? I’ve had three strokes. I had two trashcans, one regular and one recycling. I can get one can about 40 yards to the road. Then I am forced, sitting down just off the road. My legs are cramped and on fire and have problems getting my breath back. 30 minutes later, I walk back to the house. Sit in a chair to recover. 30 minutes later, I repeat with recycling. Takes two plus hours as 30 minutes each way isn’t enough and sitting on the ground kills my man made back. Next day I repeat to bring them back inside. So you want to write me up over my trash times? In fairness, if my son and son-in-law are both on an early shift, they drive the 20 minutes to my home and take of it for me, but the two trash nites are normally nights my son-in-law has closing shift. Please think about who you are writing up. Some of us can do the job but not in a timely manner. And if the temperature is 25 or so with wind, or we get light snow, I still am forced to sit by the side of the road twice. But you like to write up handicapped people for taking to long with their trash. Good to know. Someone needs to let buyers know that they will be fined quite often for being handicapped, but if they are not handicapped, you will happily ignore their violations. You managed to sugarcoat your actions like you are being nice and helpful. To me, you are a threat and very bigoted towards those with physical limitations. Thank you so much Karen. An hour ago I thought I had met almost every type Karen, but you helped me find another. I am 100% able to take care of my responsibilities, it just takes me a lot longer. As for son and his husband, they just show up several times a week, see what needs to be done, they do it. I never ask for their help.

I lived under an "HOA" in Alaska. No fees, pres., or board. It was nothing more than a placeholder to prevent an HOA from slipping in little by little. That's how they operate. They will get one, then another, and so one in an older area. If there is upkeep and beautification happening along with playgrounds that aren't city owned, then I could see spending a little money to keep my neighborhood looking nice and prevent neighbors from trashing their place. It's when a city drives around then sends you a letter in the mail about your grass is too long and so on, or if an HOA starts making bylaws that are I tended to make houses look the same, or just downright pointless for property value that things need to be done.

'Everyone has to gain from an HOA working well.' No. No they don't. The 1 year of peace isn't worth years of regret and thousands of dollars lost in legal fees to a Karen because she doesn't like you, or the sucking up to said Karen so you don't have to fight that battle. The faith you would need to have in other people to act like sane, caring individuals could be best described as naive.

I think you need to look at the two statements you made again. Working well = Settling neighbour disputes, upkeep on the sidewalk and public spaces, assisting in maintenance etc. If it was working well why would there be a Karen? Why would there be legal fees? The issue is Karen's always want to be on the board of HOAs so you have to have the community actually involved.

I lived in a great HOA on and off for adout 25 years. Mostly on. So for 1 year, I rented a condo in a "dog friendly" community. This was important, I had my Big Baby, Raven. 100lbs Rottie. Amongst my emediate neighbors, there is 2 Corgie's, 2 Shepard's, a Malamute, a Husky, 2 Pit Bulls, and a Great Dane named Zeus. I remember Zeus fondly because Raven and Zeus didn't have to hold back during play, like they did with other dogs. Well, the HOA president didn't like Rotties. She would actually have her son walk their skinny a** Dalmatian past my unit on a regular basis and get his dog to bark aggressively at Raven. I still don't understand that. So 1 day, I decided I had enough. "Raven, wanna go for a walk?". So I walked Raven, all on common ground of course, to the HOA president's back door. The boy and Dalmatian come around the corner of the building. The Dalmatian literally climbed up the boys back. Raven did nothing, no growling, no barking, no aggressive stance, nothing. Raven didn't consider them a threat. Well, Ya'all know it can't end there. A few days later, I get a violation from the HOA. Have a hearing time set. I informed all my neighbors, and my landlord. My neighbors show up, with their dogs. I show up with Raven. My landlord shows up with his Bull Mastiff. Needless to say, all fines were dropped. Oh, I forgot to mention that my landlord was a real estate attorney.

It's a federal offense for anyone other than the homeowner and the USPS worker to open a mailbox or place anything inside it. Hell, placing flyers in a mailbox, even opening a mailbox when you have no permission to do so can result in federal charges. File a complaint with your local USPS office. People tend to forget that even if you buy a brand new mailbox and install it yourself, it is still a federal crime to tamper with that mailbox. But, WOW, that user comment mentioned in the video about FedEX having an agreement with the USPS. FedEX, DHL, UPS ... none of these package delivery services are allowed to place anything in a mailbox. These shipping services deliver those packages, letters, etc, directly to your local USPS office, they do not directly deliver them, to your mailbox. There is a reason why these services will drop your package at your doorstep and NEVER EVER in your mailbox.

This is all very cute. Ha ha. But as an HOA president myself, it’s people like this that don’t follow the rules which make my job harder. For instance, a few months ago during a bi-weekly inspection of one of the houses I noted a cat toy on the ground. Hmmmmmm?! Well it turns out there was a cat behind a locked door. As I myself only conduct unannounced inspections, this too was a violation as there are to be no locked doors in the houses. I managed to call the owner at work and ordered him back. Luckily for him he was able to find a friend who could take the cat. Now he’s learning his lesson. No parking in the neighborhood for 3 months. And a 7pm curfew. Follow the rules people.

I have been involved with pesticide use since grad school. And the first thing that they tell you is: THE PESTICIDE LABEL IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT! Read the label to follow the safety instructions and area needed to be marked off. There is no allowance for variance from the concentration and methods of application. If signage is required, and the perimeter is stated follow exactly how the label tells you to do it. www.epa.gov/pesticide-labels/introduction-pesticide-labels
