I feel so bad for the teens who are being court ordered to live with their sexually abusive father. What a terrible judge! I hope CPS will help sort this out and put them into protective custody, the police should have already come with CPS social workers to the call claiming a child was assaulting an adult anyway as that's a common abuser lie and they are supposed to double check on cases emergency calls similar to these though I know CPS is overstretched in most places.

@@amadkmimi1144 Because they believe that fathers in general are treated unfairly in family court, and thus try to over compensate for statistics that were misrepresented by a lot of people. In the USA fathers now average about 54% of custody time. A bit of a tangent but there's pretty good reasons for statistics to be, at least in part, the way they were. Most fathers aren't given custody due to it being shown in court they abused their child in some way; and a lot of ways men are traditionally taught to 'discipline' children ends up being abuse. Child neglect is also considered abuse, so those men that prioritise gaming over parenting? Child neglect. Parental alienation is another way to lose custody, and how many men call their exes 'psycho' and 'crazy'? As well as substance abuse being a factor, especially if you're - say - the kinda drunk that gets angry and even physical. So, yeah, people are genuinely over compensating for a mostly perceived great injustice and it leads to shit like this

Regarding the HOA and the car being towed. It sounds like the tow truck driver is being paid by/is friends with the HOA guy and is basically BSing that there is a $60 fee to release the car. I doubt he would actually be driving off with the car because this would be theft. He hitches the car, makes it obvious this is happening, mom hears and comes out and he exploits the situation to get an extra $60. It sounds like he’s never actually left with the car and only attempts to tow it when someone is home that can pay him off.

I live in a rural community (Think back road with less than 100 people spaced roughly 100 feet to half a mile away) and some new people moved in a few houses down and asked me one day if people would go for an HOA style thing for the entire road (about 10 mile long road). I laughed and told them they have better luck walking on water. I pity them if they tried to get people to sign up for it. Doors close in their faces at the least, threats of violence at the worst.

In some states you can work in certain fields starting at 14 so if you have a job, and can afford your own room and board the authorities don’t actually have authority to force you to move back with your parents

As far as the HOA denying someone’s workers to come in and fix damage to the property...wouldn’t the owner be able to threaten to take them to court for any continued damage in the time an owner is forced to wait/not correct the issue? I mean water damage is NOT a thing you want to just let sit for weeks/months for absolutely no other reason than, “because I said so!”... it can and will cause even more problems in the home, and more costly headaches for OP trying to get the property ready/livable for sale. Isn’t the HOA effectively forcing more damage to occur to the property by not allowing the owner to fix it in a timely manner by an insured professional? Wouldn’t that mean they are liable to cover that cost?

100% the teens being forced to their father’s abusive household can absolutely put up the biggest fuss about going and REFUSE to step foot off their mother’s property for fear of their livelihoods if they return to his house. It is also illegal in most states to hold a child against their will and refuse their opinion in court after the age of 13 i believe. For the one about the land and access issues, it’s possible that John is temporarily using unowned land or a neighbor’s land to access the new house to build it. It’s possible they already fixed this issue without bothering to tell you so it would make you anxious. I never know when the writers of these stories check Mr. Reddit or any other up-to-date-with-posting youtubers on their submissions; but if the writer of this ever does, I’d send a little letter asking what their resolve was for the land access issues, and use a tone that seems more concerned about their landlocked situation with the Dad’s house. They might be begrudgingly putting a road through the son’s new land as if it was a new street or something. Maybe post “Private Property” signs at the beginning so people don’t assume it’s a street.

Fortunately, they are great and basically look after communal areas and set basic guidelines. I don’t even know if they do issue fines😁. There are annual dues, usually around $200CDN.

Don't sign for the house. We had much the same problem when we bought a house while my husband was suffering a severe medical condition and we needed to get into a house. We let them use their own contractor to repair the damage when we could get no where arguing for our own contractor. Four years later we have a sinking dining room floor that has to be replaced. If you let them do the work, pay a professional of your choice to check the work.

It doesn't seem legal at all if he doesn't acknowledge paternity of the child. If he's legally the child's father they might be SOL because he's legally allowed to place the child up for adoption. It sounds like the adoption fees have been paid.

Regarding the revenge porn story, if the social media site is located in the USA, it is NOT a party to the revenge porn. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act specifies that only the actual poster of the objectionable material has any civil liability under US law. As for why only the US has HOAs while Europe does not, actually Europe does - they've just been around for so long that they've become government bodies. What is called HOA dues in the US is called village council tax in Europe.

The water damage one sounds a little fishy around 30:00. I’m in the restoration industry. That short of time for a dry out and the estimate. A lot of companies like this, I.e. vendors take a lot of short cuts and do not follow the industry standard, the S500. I would have and another restoration company with a good yelp review. Not affiliated with any insurance company to do a moisture test and maybe an indoor environmental professional to test for spores. That will give you a good idea of how well and complete they dried out the home especially if they already completed repairs.

Paying rent online... We have lived here for approx 4 years and we could only pay via money orders... They switched to an online payment only. A debit/credit card charged 4 times as much as a money order, and the only option is to have automatic payment withdrawal.. So I tried to set up the auto pay even though we HATE doing that... I found the E-Check Draft option and it was available in the auto pay OR "one Time Payment" So we are saving the cost of the money orders and the PITA on having to go wait in LONG lines.. Check the fine print...

I know what they are for as briefly explained below. However so many of those on the board of these seem corrupt bullies. The thing is they have a board which is made up of fellow residents and you know what happens to a bossy neighbour that gets power. Many abuse this power and even some look at ways of putting money in their own pockets. With many it seems to be about attempts to extort money from the residents. I would never in a million years buy a property that is HOA or equivalent. You lose control to a degree of your own property in many ways and if in a bad or even over zealous HOA it can make your life hell. So many have to deal with so much stress dealing with them and as I said seems many are dodgy.

The story about the 17 yr old being forced to see his abusive father made me very upset. This exact thing happened in Durango, CO and the father really did murder his own son to get back at their mom. During the investigation, it was uncovered that the father also engaged in very bizarre sexual activities that he took video of. Judges in Colorado do not have to consider what minor children want in custody cases. The boy told several people he feared for his life at his dad’s house. It took a long time but the dad was finally convicted of first degree murder and will spend out the rest of his days in prison. If only that brought the boy back. 😢

I used to work for a company that wrote software for banks to let their customers do APC (automatic payments and collects). Things like gym memberships, rents, payroll. I'm guessing there aren't any curbs that could be safely parked by in the complex. The way my apartment complex is laid out there are "roads" around the buildings and either side of the road is completely lined in parking spaces, if the spaces are full there is literally nowhere else to park that wouldn't block someone in. Obviously, there is a street outside the complex, but if it a no parking zone then allowing someone to park would effectively remove an entire lane from the road, and depending upon the disability you could potentially be trying to maneuver and load a wheelchair while dodging heavy traffic, not to mention the street could be far from the disabled person's apartment.

WHOA! That second story? That's harassment. The HOA is willfully harassing this man. It's harassment. The towing company, if they only care about the tow, could also be held liable (even if you don't want to, file a lawsuit against the HOA and the towing company, the towing company will either try to get themselves dismissed from the lawsuit or attempt to settle with you by offering to testify on your behalf). If you are the only black family in that association, even if the HOA didn't intend it, it can still be considered a violation of the Fair Housing Act. If you live in an HOA, they are require by law to provide a parking space to home owners, they cannot just refuse to issue parking permits or stop issuing them. Also, file a complaint with the state board that oversees HOA's and towing companies. There is a state agency that oversees each. Also, contact your local news media. They always have reporters who do investigative segments for residents, every city in the country has a news station where they have reporters to cover features like this.

That said- I have been seeing alot lately about mistreatment of native tribes in the US, including stumbling across a story from 2018 where a couple with planet sized balls tried to sue the federal government claiming the ICWA was racist. People don't realize the the reeducation dormitory schools ("saving the man by killing the indian") Didn't actually close down until the 80's in the US. the ICWA was passed in 1978 specifically to prevent native children from being adopted to white families who would not allow them to learn about their heritage. It was also a half-hearted and backhanded apology for the significant amount of damage done to the tribes by the US (including forced sterilization in the 50's and 60's) that has placed many tribes on the brink of extinction. So hey congrats america- you were more successful at genocide than the Nazi's. In this case though it sounds like the "boyfriend" is essentially selling the kid under the guise of adoption.

As for ESAs rather a place is pet friendly or not if you're living in the USA. You only need a letter from one member of your medical team stating you require an ESA. There is 0 they can do. They can't charge you pet deposits nor pet rent. According to the Fair Housing Act. ESAs & Service Dogs are covered with the fair housing act in the USA. All you need is a letter from someone on your medical team that the animal is an ESA not a pet. For ESAs & Service dogs there is no registration nor certification. ESAs don't have to be trained like a service dog.

Minor point, but as a UK poster it always jars when someone in the US talks about having their salary "garnished". Over here, "garnishing" is only ever used to describe adding something, and it always takes me a second to figure out why they would add something to your salary to get a loan paid off.....;-)

I am in the UK too and I find it very strange to hear of gardens being referred to as yards. Here a yard is a small concreted area bordered by walls. I laugh at phrases such as 'lawyered up'. Not sure exactly what the purpose of an HOA is and how they operate. The idea of employed workers having to file their own taxes seems really bizarre to me!

@@56beverley In the USA yard generally refers to the where you could have a grass lawn (thus back and front yards, and sometimes side). Some choose grass, some gravel, some gardens. As for Lawyer up - not sure where it came from - I saw one bit that attributes to a cop show, actually, in 95. As to it's origins, my guess it's somewhere between "wise up" and (mostly) "shut up" due to how Miranda rights work. Taxes - Standard employees submit a form indicating what credits they are due (kids, etc) that tells the employer how much they should withhold from their checks for taxes and send to the IRS. At the end of the year they get a form indicating how much, and then run their taxes to see if they owe more, or are owed (maybe your dependents changed, moved, etc). When I file, I count not just my wages, but things like insurance (which I agree, the US is messed up on, and not everyone gets it via their employer) tax credits from programs, any other taxes that count against your main "taxable" income..) I rent and my filing form is basically one page. Knowing how I manage my money, I purposely put 0 on my credits with my employer and then claim what I can at the end of the year, so I get money back from the government.

The advice to sue the social media company was totally wrong, I forget what laws they are, but there are laws, regulations, etc. in place to protect social media sites from being held liable for what users post, social media sites are platforms, platforms aren't expected nor required to review/approve posts by users and are usually free sites, if they were publishers then they could be sued because publishers are supposed to review/approve things being published and those are usually paid services.
