Graduate of Japanstudies here - the problem in Japan (and East Asia in general) is the toxic work culture that places one's company/job above everything else, even family. Young people don't have the time nor energy to make babies because if you don't voluntarily overwork every day and if you take any days off, you'll pretty much be guaranteed to miss any promotions. This means that men work ungodly long days, come back home exhausted, and wake up very early to do it all over again. Every day, every week, every year. In short, Late Capitalism is just doing its thing - destroying everything it touches, and the politicians know EXACTLY why Japanese people aren't having children, but profit > people so it's easier to just get angry at the younger generations and beat around the bush...
@BlueTressym11 күн бұрын
...and blame women for the fact that men are being overworked because of the stereotyping of women in Japan (and elsewhere) as DEMANDING men work themselves to death to fund the woman's lifestyle. If that wasn't the case, I doubt the proposed 'solution' would be so violently misogynistic. They're not blaming the exhausted men who come home from work too shattered to even contemplate adult fun times for the lack of babies because they know damn well you're right. They're effectively claiming women must suffer to save the nation, with the implication that women caused the problem rather than admit the real issue is corporate culture. Don't get me wrong, I agree 100% with everything you're saying but the problems with systemic and cultural misogyny are a significant factor in this as well.

Isn't there a really strong push for a 4-day work week there right now to combat this problem (as it's affecting the birth rate)? It would be nice if we got a whole country doing it, might start spreading to other places. Of course, the US will be dead last as always for any kind of worker rights.

Literally. It would be far too expensive, too risky, and consume far too many resources and man hours. There have been cases where a mother in a coma has successfully carried a baby, but if I remember correctly, they were cases where she was already pregnant when she fell ill, and the baby was close enough to the delivery date that it could be viable to remove it early. One of the most upsetting things about this topic, though, is that it often takes bringing up the logistic problems with the concept before people will accept that they probably shouldn't impregnate brain dead women after all. Like, violating a woman's dead body is "for the greater good", so that makes up for the staggering nightmare that's inherently based on sexism.

I was a teenager I believe and it gave me the biggest ick and shivers, because they literally turned her into an incubator. I can understand that perhaps this would've been her wish but there was absolutely no sort or will/testament and what if people just start doing it to women that wouldn't actually be ok with that. @yba_xoxo11 күн бұрын
TLDR; cats are a good example of understanding how trust, boundaries and relationships work. normally, if someone doesn't like cats, then i find it hard to trust them understanding this stuff. there are three things that i think some people don't care about that i wanna discuss in the context of cats; trust, boundaries and relationships. most cats will be more open as they start to trust you. like, no cat is going to be happy if some stranger comes up to them and puts their hands on them, but if you can gain their trust that you're not planning on manhandling them, they'll more than likely happily let you give them pets. it's about boundaries and trust. cats will often have different boundaries based on how much they trust you, just like people. they also probably don't realise the normal thing that not every cat wants to be petted. if it doesn't want to do smth, it has it's reason and most respectable people will understand that and not push. for example, my cat i had growing up let me use him as a pillow (he was born like a year before i was, so he was basically my older brother of sorts when i grew up). most cat's probably wouldn't like that, but he was happy to let me because of the relationship we had and the fact that it didn't make him uncomfortable. and that's another thing, what someone is comfortable with tends to also vary based on the relationship you have with someone. Click mentioned this in the vid, but a friend is more comfortable with being asked if they wanna hang out than someone you've only seen in passing or know the existence of. same can be said about hugs, compliments, etc. obviously, if someone has some sort of trauma from a cat, i won't hold that against them, but if someone hates cats because the cat always runs when they randomly try to pet it or something like that, it's a clear sign of not understanding these fairly basic things. anyway, rant over, hope everyone has a nice day/night ((:

The guy that reported himself to HR. Sounds like a guy I used to work with. A couple of the guys had a notebook where they kept a tally of how many times a day he would go down to talk to a coworker half his age (she was in her early 20s, he was mid 40s) he'd even make excuses to "help her with her job" despite hardly knowing how to do the job. As I was the only other person who was qualified to do her job (as she trained me) she would call me down to help her so he wouldn't have an excuse to bug her. The looks I used to get off him when he'd walk down and realise I was there and would have to go back to his place on the line. Best part he tried complaining to my supervisor about me not doing my job. My supervisor: he does twice the work of anyone else, clears the backlog and jumps on to help her because he's the only one qualified to do so and she requested his help... What's your excuse? He didn't have an answer and was fired not long afterwards

I had a co-worker who as a female you did not want to get on the elevator alone with him. He loved to get the women pinned in a corner and either threatened to grab them or actually put his hand in your pocket. He would occasionally do things like this even out in the work area. His excuse was he liked to see the girls' reaction when he did this stuff. I have had to fight him off a time or two in the elevator myself. Apparently though later when he tried such with me in the work area was the last straw as far as the supervisors were concerned. He made the mistake of sticking his hand in my pocket and my verbally snapping at him was heard by a supervisor who was right around the corner at the time. My co-worker was forced to go to sexual harassment classes. Apparently, the classes didn't work. He was later fired for the same behavior. I really felt sorry for the guy's poor wife and kids.

A couple brought in their 4 year old 170lb leonberger to a veterinarian in Texas, Dr. Millard "Lou" Tierce III and his business, Camp Bowie Animal Clinic. The veterinarian took the dog in but told the family after the visit their their dog is grievously ill and had to be put down. He was caught 11 months later as the owners were informed by a worker at the clinic that the dog was still alive and kept in unsanitary conditions. The leonberger, Sid, was cruelly kenneled, saw no exercise, and was used for multiple blood donations. This dog was one of five cases this veterinarian held illegally for forced blood donations.

The goal? So she can pump out babies and fix Japan's birth rate problem. And it's implied this is a business organization of many fairies doing the same thing to poor young girls and guys all over Japan. One of the guys in question isn't interested in romance either, and in fact has PTSD from being stalked by a crazy person - and the two develop a sibling-type relationship. 18:20 Not just the money! One of my ancestors was an old widow in Salem who basically owned her own house and land along with her son, who lived elsewhere. Someone in Salem accused her of being a witch, used how she shouted at nothing at night as an example of proof (she likely had what we now know as dementia). He wanted to try to free up the land and house by having her killed so he could take it over. He was pissed that an old woman, especially for that time, owned a better house and land than he did, seemingly without any man. I dont remember the details of her trial that my mom found but she was thankfully found not guilty. I believe her son had to rush to the court and plead for his mother and show he was the one who technically owned everything and that he would stay with her from now on to care for her. She had been taking care of herself alright until then but he seemed to see she was quite ill. She died not terribly long after the trial, a few years maybe, likely due to the progression of dementia.

Every country is struggling with lower birth rates because the costs of living in every country has gone up. If governments really want to "fix" the problems, maybe they should start looking at the companies who are working their population to the point of exhaustion but NOT paying them their worth and other companies & individuals charging ridiculous amounts of money for basic living necessities. Hmmm??? It's not that people don't want kids. It's that they cannot afford to have them. A country like Japan expects their employees to work eat & breathe work. How are you meant to make children when you're always at work? Or exhausted from work? Do you even get paid overtime in Japan? Or is it just expected that you stay until the manager leaves?
@alexanderflack56611 күн бұрын
Japan actually has a significantly better pay ratio than the US does (not that this is saying much). The problem in the US is largely money, with CEOs and other executives being massively overpaid relative to the average employee and especially the employees at the bottom, but in Japan as I recall the issue is lack of work/personal life balance. If you spend just about every waking hour at the office, you won't be doing much dating or having much sex.

not to mention that comatose people are often on several supporting medications to stay alive, and suffer from several severe risks from this situation. A coma is not like a deep sleep. Even just keeping a pregnant body alive, of a person that had a brain injury or massive stroke for just a few weeks to allow the lungs of the fetus to mature under special medication befor delivery via c-section is a real challenge and doesn't allways work out. Additionally: intensive care for a comatose person, a pregnant one none the less, is insanely expensive. It is a lot more efficient to allow surrogacy and pay women to be pregnant. About to trauma dump and TMI at the same time. I only very recently started watching your stuff. Also very recently I fell into a depression after getting fired from my job that took me nearly 6 months to find (position eliminated after 2 months, why did they even bother hiring anyone???) part of my depression was that I hadn’t taken a full shower or washed my hair in about 2 weeks, just washed my face and hands most of the time. I started binging The Click and the intro that says I smell good always made me a little sad like “no I really don’t, buddy” but today I have another interview that actually has me kind of optimistic and I took a really long hot shower, even trimmed my hair a little bit to look nicer and now - yes, I do smell good :) thanks!

18:29 Same thing happened with the Gestapo, Hitler's secret police, too. People were forced to confess to anything anti-Nazi they were accused of. -It's most likely also going to happen to America with the way things are going.- No money was earned, though, it was just getting rid of anyone you disliked.

I remember the specific case of Friedrich Reck who said something about the German currency not being worth much anymore in late 1944. His neighbour overheard him and reported him to the Gestapo who interrogated him and sent him home again. The neighbour was fuming and kept pestering the Gestapo about it, so they finally sent Mr. Reck (a man in his mid-sixties) to the camps where he died in February 1945.

I have four cats because three of them were ferals orphaned at like 3 weeks old when thier feral mother was attacked by an owl, so I, with my Mom, spent tireless WEEKS bottle feeding and tending to those precious little fuzzy potatoes until they were able to be normal cats and eat solid food and use the litter boxes on thier own. They are now 2 ½ years old, and are the friendliest, most social, well behaved, and healthiest little ((actually, not so little, they grew into fair sized cats)) critters I could have hoped for. I'm currently watching them zoom around the house to watch the winter birds through the windows, chittering. I will call them my "kids" if I dang well please. My other cat and my dog too. Heck, even my turtle. Dudes really be out there being angry that a lady is giving common human decency to a creature than acknowledging thier jealous sour butts.

❤ Surrogate parenting tiny animals is rewarding. I, on the other hand, got annoyed every time someone called me a "dog mom," or "[dog's name]'s mommy." I was like, sorry, I haven't given birth to either the dog or the cats in the house. It especially felt offensive due to my relationship situation at the time. Maybe people really ought to leave it for the person to decide what they possibly want to call themself, in relation to a pet, either way.

22:23 I follow a few cultural education channels here on KZbin and spme of them have addressed the issue of Japan's low birth rate. The issue is the insane work culture and heavily patriarchal culture as women, with more education and with access to knowledge about other countries, don't want to work themselves to death for a career they can't even fully enjoy, because they need to take care of the kids and husband as well. Edit: Oh, and also, the Japanese Economy has some issues where it's not completely following the world around it (can't remember the exact issue...), so everyone recommends getting a foreign salary if you want to live in Japan. Many young people leave Japan to earn better salaries in an environment with a lot less pressure on constantly doing overtime and a lot more lenient/loose hierarchy

It's related to the feminist 4B-movement in South Korea (this one has a wikipedia article, probably arose because of the amount of misogyny that was uncovered in the news lately, including girls of 12 being used to make AI-porn. This movement is translated to the 4N-movement (see Wikipedia page why the original has B's instead of N's), but at the same time there is apparently also a 4N-movement that is anti-feminist. I could only find 1 Reddit post about it though, with the majority of the results referring to a western translation of the 4B-movement instead.

What I want to know about that policy where the Japanese are trying to fix their population decline by banning women getting married after 25 and sterilizing them after 30, would the men face any punishments if they don't get married and start families young? The picture you choose for your phones wallpaper is called a WALLPAPER, not a screensaver. Screensavers, by large, are not used anymore and were merely meant to prevent burn-in of pixels by changing their color periodically. Remember 3D pipes for windows? THAT is a screensaver. Moodeng screaming as your wallpaper is your wallpaper. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

@akiramakara2062 yep, they're actually coming back and becoming kind of a necessity with the emergence of OLED panels becoming the mainstream. OLED is more susceptible to image burn in than traditional LED backlit panels. Screensavers change the colors of the pixels periodically to prevent static images from "burning in" to the screen.

@BlueTressym yep, anything that regularly changes your pixels color will help prevent burn-in. I used to have Google maps on my phone for several hours at a time, nearly every day, for months on end, and after a while you could see a faint outline of Google maps burned into my screen, that was on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G back in 2019/early 2020.

I love that Click has a full cast of characters for his videos now. I love seeing how many characters he can come up with. 32:37 one thing that I heard about cats it's that they teach you about *consent.* And it is true, seeing that my cat absolutely despises being carried when she doesn't want to be carried, but is gentle enough she won't bite or scratch, just slither out of your arms. Soooo maybe the issue here isn't the cats, it's the guy not knowing how consent works.
@killer_rabbit4211 күн бұрын
I've heard this too. Most cats have boundaries & people who don't like accepting other's boundaries might not like cats. Dogs tend to give love unconditionally whenever you want it, whereas you usually have to earn a cat's trust & love on their terms

Regarding the post at about 36:00, I had a breast reduction at 16. I was super overdeveloped for my age and one of my breasts was like two full cup sizes bigger than the other. I of course had to get the consent of my parents for the surgery because I was a minor, but my doctors (both my primary care physician and my surgeon) made it absolutely clear that it was my decision, not theirs. They also went out of their way to write to the insurance company when they almost refused to pay for the surgery since I was a minor and it was technically a cosmetic surgery, and because of their letters, the insurance company made a deal with them. They said they had to take a certain amount of flesh off of me (1 pound total I think?). They took FOUR POUNDS off of my chest and (maybe TMI?) had to take my nipples physically off my body to reattach them in a completely different spot, because where they formerly were is where the bottom of my breasts now meet my chest. If this had been a thing, and I'd have needed paternal or spousal permission to get my surgery done, I might not be here today. That surgery improved my self image so much that I have never been more confident and happy with the way I look, and I was able to start expressing myself more through clothing and my appearance. Before I had only worn baggy shirts and hid away from others, especially in the locker rooms and stuff at school. My image of myself was so poor I was close to doing the Game Over. I am so glad that paternal/spousal permission was not a thing that was needed, because in my case, it literally saved my life, and now I wear my scars (which are almost completely faded now) just as proudly as a peacock.

Yep. I had someone tell me they tried a TENS period cramp simulator and almost threw up at 3 from the pain (I don't remember the context of how this conversation came about, except that it was relevant to what we'd been talking about, and he was someone I knew). I proceeded to unclip my TENS unit from under my shirt (he didn't know I was wearing one when he said it) and just hand it to him. After a few moments of utter confusion from not understanding what I had handed him or why, he figured out what it was, and his jaw hit the floor when he saw it was set to 7. After gaping at me like a fish outta water for a solid 30 seconds, he asked me how I could stand the pain at that level. He was VERY confused, which quickly turned to concern, when I said "Pain? This is just a pleasant distraction from the pain". Yeah, hysterectomy recovery was about as painful as a mild period. That's a problem. Fast forward a few months and I came across him yelling at some man for mocking a woman "for believing period cramps are real".
