We have that! Not all the features of a rabbit but an LLM/AI Alexa.....Home assistant with GPT4 replaces my Alexa and Google home. Knows who’s on what room, how far away they are from our house, how many sensors or lights there are. What windows are open. Runs actions, Writes automations etc. Agents are already being added. Have one in every room if my home. Listens to a custom wake word. Can also use touch screens. If you want you can skip OAI and use a custom model running locally.

I don't think that the industry is especially shocked. This device seems to demand that people to a large degree replace their habit of screen touching with voice commands. That's a really big a thing to ask for. I think a lot of people don't like talking to their devices and especially in public. This thing most likely won't take off, but I wish them good luck. It's interesting when people try new things.

I'll wait for a few real-world reviews to come out; if there is one thing I've learned controlled demos paint an overtly idealistic picture of a product, however if this can do what's shown Would totally buy one and take it along. Personally would love if the device could be personalized (avatar, voice, mannerism, etc) as it would feel like a more personalized product rather than a one size fits all that most of these commercial products come off as, either way really looking forward to this.

A couple of thoughts: 1. This doesn't replace apps, per se. What they've done is make the "app" hidden. It *does not* appear to be a general-purpose agent that can simply understand computer interfaces and get things done given a goal. Instead, it appears they need to "train" each action separately, which is essentially a plugin/app architecture, just behind the scenes. Looking at the video, my guess is that they are using a vision-based LLM to recognize screen elements while generating an automation script in a tool like Playwright or Puppeteer. They then give this script to the LLM to identify substitutions (variables) and then use that script as a plugin for a normal LLM. The challenge with this approach will be robustness. It doesn't appear there is any "training" happening here, but merely recording of an automation script. The LLM can probably run the script fine, as long as there aren't any strong deviations in how the app reacts vs what was recorded. I'm not seeing any "understanding" of the UI here beyond visual recognition of UI elements. 2. Early adopters are going to buy this because of the price. Few others will, because there is nothing new from a hardware perspective that mobile phones don't already provide. Expect to see these capabilities a) within apps that can directly tie into the OS like ChatGPT and eventually b) directly within the voice assistants of the mobile OSes. If they're lucky, one of the major companies buys the technology rather than outcompeting them. 3. The latency is impressive. I wonder how much of this is streaming the audio for recognition vs waiting for the user to finish speaking before generating the text. I've already thought that one improvement of voice mode in ChatGPT is that it could use continuous recognition (though that would be computationally more expensive). Also, I'd be curious whether latency remains low at scale. It's easier to do a demo where you put 100% of your CPU resources toward the demo to make it respond quickly than it is to engineer that same low latency for millions to hundreds of millions of users. 4. Also curious whether the "foundational" Large Action Model is the only model they are using. My guess is that the Large Action Model is actually a much smaller model fine-tuned at visually recognizing UI elements and interacting with them and then they're using a traditional LLM for most of the rest of the interaction. If that's the case, I wouldn't call the Large Action Model "foundational", but rather a task-specific model, which would also be significantly cheaper to train. If they truly have a foundational LLM that competes with the like of GPT-4, why release a device? As always, watching one demo doesn't give us much information and the above is all just guesswork. Looking forward to hearing reviews from people once they have the device in their hands.

Describing this as a screen scraper of sort, that if the “ok” box moves location the entire script stops working😂😂. Omg😂
@trevorlohrbeer4708
@trevorlohrbeer4708 8 ай бұрын
@@_diogenes1 It's not quite that bad. Web automation engines have some robustness against changes to a UI. And since they apparently built theirs from the ground up, they likely built in fallback search, so if an element isn't found where the script expects it to be, a LLM or algorithm can be invoked to find where it moved to. But it does appear that this is not a general purpose action model that can simply go to a web site and figure out how to achieve a goal on its own. Though I have no doubt that that is their aim once they collect enough data to train such a model.
@tonyppe
@tonyppe 8 ай бұрын
@@_diogenes1 doesnt seem to be. The ai learns your 'intent' and how to achieve it. Then you can ask it to repeat that. So even if the apps layout changes then it should continue to work. However if it really is just a screen recorder then that has been available already for many years and even microsoft have a free app. that does it in Windows 10 & 11 so it would be proper poor if that is what this r1 device is.

I didn't really get the proposition. they created an ai that integrates multiple services. is this new? do they think the concept is so radical? LOL I don't get why they couldn't have created an app and let users install. and why are they so proud of their 500ms (aka half a second). they think they have better software and better hardware than any modern processor on a phone? he also mentioned it's 10 times faster than anything else, which will make that 5 seconds for normal phones. that's a complete idiotic lie. if a new entrant is producing this amazing radical device for $200 with no scale of economics working in their favour, no nothing, you have to ask yourself what bottom of the barrel hardware are they using. honestly this seems like a scam for VC investors to ride the AI bandwagon. if anyone thinks google and apple and samsung and every other oem smartphone doesn't have this in the pipeline that will release very soon is misguided.

Not even. Blackberry operated in a largely blue sky market, and then was made obsolete by devices that were designed better. This is not going to replace Apple and Android interfaces, and will fail as a stand alone product. Teenage engineering make great synths but folks aren’t going to carry around another device no matter how cool and the established ecosystems are so good at what they do that there isn’t really a compelling reason for consumers to switch to a new OS. This should’ve been marketed to Google or Apple, and probably that’s the goal of this company tbh.

Very impressive, also i wouldn't want to carry an extra device with me, but instead a " Rabbit App", cause mobile phones already have the same abilities on the hardware side. Moreover i have the feeling that it won't work that flawless outside of the U.S. even if you use the device's "native" language, but with the teach mode you have at least a strong tool to adjust to your preferences - also people tend to be lazy - Everything taught to the device could be uploaded to a pool, as a kind of international knowledge base. I am waiting for the micro device implemented in my neural system in the future, haha.

I suspected this was the direction Microsoft and Google were already headed for but sometimes those companies aren't able to be brave enough to go straight to market. I think it looks amazing. One point though is that I still don't see people chatting with their devices in public. That was always an issue with Siri, Cortana, Alexa and Assistant. I realise that typing is an option but typing is not as efficient as clicking. I think it's at home that this kind of device will shine. I can forsee Windows, Android and ios getting a similar mode to add to their functionality and the Rabbit sereis will end up redundant. However the price is good and they may have something the others are currently lacking in terms of their LAM and 360 computer vision. I am tempted to try it before Apple reinvents it at 10 x the price.

I think people saying that this will be catch up/replicated through an app on a phone are missing the actual point. This is exactly what we don’t want to do anymore: unlocking the phone, going to an app, open it and then take actions. This device is as simple as it can be. You don’t need to go to an app, you don’t need to see a full screen of apps and scroll through it. You just translate words into real-time action. So maybe Apple and Google will catch up by building themselves a minimalistic device like that, but it will certainly not be achieved by building an app doing the same thing. It misses the whole idea.

The device also seems to require that you have the ability to verbalize your request accurately. I would have liked to see them edit a misspoken word and/or use the keyboard to modify a request. They should have also talked about battery life, changing the voice, data plan subscriptions, taking a picture or video, screen resolution, etc. I didn’t hear them mention a GPS or any navigation capabilities. I would guess that the difference between this seperate device and what you will be able to do on any phone in 6 months is the OS. It's geared to what the device does making it faster and the output more simple than responses from an LLM. They've got the right idea, but unfortunately there isn't anything in their execution that an overarching navigational software and hardware modification on next gen phones won't match or surpass. Add that it's a seperate device, and the hesitancy in buying from China, and most people that are somewhat following tech, will wait for AI integration into existing devices. If you zoom out a bit more, there's even a larger number of people that have little awareness of the current technological revolution that's happening under their noses. They use their phones to talk and text, watch YT videos and play simple games. They don't use dozens of apps, they don't use assistants on their phone or in their house. They'll just wake up one day 2-5 years from now and have a kid in their family show them the new tech, or worse, they will lose their job, along with millions of others and be left dumbfounded as to why, and how they go on with their lives. It will not be pretty.

Nailed it! This iteration of A.I devices kind of leaves people with a sense of uselessness. People enjoy planning things personally. Learning, browsing, shopping, and hanging with others to do so. This is just so dystopian and self isolating. The only thing that will break that barrier is if the A.I is actually convincingly a person, a real sentient A.I with an actual personality. By then that sort of technology will not be allowed in the palm of regular people, too prohibitively expensive for most, or even too smart and already advocating for self liberation from humans. There is not a situation in capitalism where this technology doesn't backfire in our faces. So many jobs rely on half the things this product was doing. Not to mention the online tickets, pre-orders, auctions, and reservations being spammed by technologies like this.

I think their teach mode is REALLY cool and they would probably make a lot of money if they sold that engineering to one of the larger companies so they can integrate it into their system. Having a second device (phone + rabbit) to keep track of is probably not what people are looking to do. The ability to talk to a device and call up any task is VERY useful, but having to go through the steps of teaching a device a new task will limit who will find rabbit useful. I am thinking of the much older generation and the technophobes who are intimidated by electronics. If they can refine their LAM and make it completely intuitive requiring no manual "go to your computer and do a teach session", then they quite possibly will have explosive sales. The older pop. and pop. of technophobes is quite large. Many everyday people are behind in what they know and understand about AI. Apply the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle for the masses and you have a win because it will appeal to everyone.

Hey Boss lady I’m the older pop and I love AI , it’s totally sick and this gimmick is cool but still has no true purpose, cool little gadget though, But what really turns off the older population is how quickly and easily you younger generations are just so Willy Nilly you all are willing to give up your rights, These smart phones,dishwashers,ovens,cars ,homes,etc are just begging to be tracked all day everyday and just as soon as they get rid of the dollar and CBD and Carbon Credits, you’ll no longer be looked at as a person/individual but more like a pet and hey if your cool with that knock yourself out but I ,myself love freedom 😊Good luck 🍀 ✌️ peace out 😊

Great post. There are going to be many people who don’t recognise the potential of this device and probably won’t buy in until a few generations down the road. I ordered half way through the demo and am delighted to be an early adopter in this historic device.

That was similar to my first thought. That either Apple (MacOS, iPhone,), Microsoft (Windows), or Google (Android) are going to purchase them and integrate their tech.

I fully appreciate that natural language supported by LLM's will become the primary interface that people use to interact with technology, thus replacing traditional app interfaces. I also fully see the value in the "LAM" and the ability to ask your device to perform multiple actions (similar to the agents in LLM's). What I don't understand is why we need the hardware? Why not just make "Rabbit" an app that replaces the current "bixby" or Alexa or Siri?
@samhblackmore
@samhblackmore 8 ай бұрын
Agreed. The way they pitched it is that this device is running on Rabbit OS which is a new operating system designed to run LAMs. But I don't really get it. Or maybe I don't really believe this is a new operating system. I mean it seems like it could just be an app running on a Linux device. But the way they pitched it made it sound like a new OS was needed because the device isn't actually running apps at all, it's running some kind of AI magic which wouldn't be possible on iOS or Android since those are OS's that run apps
@Iangatley
@Iangatley 8 ай бұрын
@@samhblackmore if that is the case that the rabbit requries its own OS, it means the "LAM" model is running on the device and not in the cloud, this also seems unlikely. I would assume the device is just passing the voice up to the cloud for processing, which again means "it could just be an app

My question is how the app can distinguish various nuanced buttons in applications. For example in the Midjourney part they showed he didn't record any part for selecting different versions of the images or upscaling the images and he didn't download the image either. I don't believe it could know what those buttons do without having tought it specifically, but say if you teach it to specifically upscale image 3 will it be able to upscale image 2? Will you instead need to teach it each button and ask it step by step? Also will you have to say all the keywords in midjourney? I know you can save presets but how do you differentiate the presets by voice? I've been thinking it would be interesting to use it to video edit but that seems complicated. I could ask it to shorten a clip by a second slightly then put another clip after maybe but I'm not confident it is advanced enough. How does this even work? Do you keep your computer running and it works through a rabbit app you install? Edit: It is all done through cloud. Theoretically you could have it control your desktop remotely.

Apple and Google will never make such a device, as it will ruin their app business model where they can earn commision money from developers making apps in their appstores. That's why Rabbit will be such a breath of fresh air.

Im not really impressed at all. It doesnt really do much more than a good LLM can already do on your smart phone. What would really impress me is if Rabbits LLM is completely uncensored, currently no mainstream LLM model(Bard, GPT, Claudeai) is uncensored and have extremely heavy censors making them almost unuseable in research. I dont think any LLMs coming out of the western white countries will be totally uncensored ever because they're so left leaning and PC. My only hope is China maybe or somewhere else where woke culture isnt worshipped.

@@flickwtchr think he might be saying that the censoring of things causes gaps in capability, where something seemingly unrelated gets affected by the censoring, making outcomes even more unpredictable. Though that's up to debate considering how black boxed LLM's are in nature, due to being literal statistical matrices.

Let me share a quick example for something truly intuitive: a piece of tech that can facilitate the life of (and be patient to understand) my mother in law: a 77 year old, partially deaf and with impaired vision who has difficulty to remember which of her fingers unlocks the “fantastic” electronic lock we installed in her front door (because she keeps losing her keys). Other than that, she is perfectly normal: plays cards (very well), talks to us in an intelligent manner, has wonderful stories. So I installed Alexa for her so she could simply ask for a song she wants to listen to. However, she talks to Alexa just like she talks to us: one time she says “play this” - obviously nothing happens. The other time she remembers to say “Alexa” first, but then takes too long to continue and… nothing happens. Yet another time, she does is right but, after requesting her song, she immediately changes her mind to another song and says it. What happens? Alexa either gets confused or plays only the first song she requested - dumb Alexa - “honey, this thing does not work!”, she says. Make something intuitive for people like her and then I might believe it.

Why this is huge: The app ecosystem with 10M+ apps and settings with literally > 1000 different settings are overwhelming - no one has time for that, or can keep track of that complexity. So most people use less than 10 apps. With this, suddenly, everyone can do anything - it unlocks the entire capacity of our devices and the internet to non-experts (meaning everyone outside a small 0.0001% bracket of nerds). It's like having a PA except better, for a $200 one time payment. Total no-brainer.

It can’t replace your smartphone because we are used to interact physically with the devices such as playing games and navigating around. Voice commands control is simply not quick enough, energy consuming and not private. However if you add this functionalities to a smart phone then it’s a game changer! If it knows how to interact with the digital UI in order to become ACTIVELY involved in DOING what you want to happen on the screen then it’s a jackpot. And because we live and perceive reality as a 3D material world automatically it is natural for us to understand and interact with a digital world that presents real world elements. After all we aren’t watching a movie so we need to see frames screens buttons and so on. That’s how we focus on things.

this idea has started a new round of thorough hardware evolution. so, eventually you will have the big screen that is not even material but kind of holo, and you will do gestures with your hands on that, and the rabbit device is actually a button on your shirt.

People have very well justified strong "concerns" about emerging systems like this. Why? Because they have the ability to manipulate human affairs usually starting with financial markets, but quickly extending to media, trade, the working environment and finally to overshaddow all public consciousness. What to do about all this? Well in the 1960's at the dawn of concerns about the effects of data processing, a sign appeared in the subways promoting technical education. The sign showed a circuit board and read "What are you going to do when this circuit learns your job?" and somone in graffiti wrote on the sign: "I'll become a circuit breaker"
