The problem of watching you demo reverb pedals is that your playing and tones are always so atmospheric that I can't make any judgement on the reverb. You could play into a bean can reverb and it would still sound amazing. 😁

Yes. Bea, just play one chord, don’t finger all of the strings properly so some are muted inappropriately and some buzz out. Then and only then will I get a better feel for how these will sound with my playing.

What didn’t you like about the Kemper?
@Michael_Is_Avg3 жыл бұрын
@@resistorstudios It was good, but personally I'm a bit of a simple person and found it to be a bit of option paralysis. I basically used the same performance or two for the past few years on the Kemper. I was in a rut, but not a huge tweaker to enjoy going in deep on everything. It is a phenomenal piece of gear and might eventually get a rackmount to keep at the home studio, but it just wasn't a huge deal for me. And I just missed pedals and couldn't afford to build a new board without selling it.

Walrus pedals always sound GOOD! Like that this is an “effect” style reverb, rather than just an emulation. Rebea always make me want to be a more modern player than I am. Real talent. I spent my teen years listening to a lot of Prog Rock, and I really dig the evolution of how guitarists have been using effects. Really is a golden age of pedals?

Amazing demo! Compared to the Slö reverb pedal they do, how’d it stack up? I’m debating between the two. They almost sound like two different animals. Which do you prefer out of the two? This was my exact experience with the R1.
@ChrisEffort3 жыл бұрын
@DannyP 6 absolutely - gear demos rarely do anything good imo. It gives an impression what the gear sounds like with someone else’s rig and playing style/capability. That said - this pedal is fine, but the frequencies are imo in the way, too muddy in the low mid frequencies which does not suit my style. I guess most of it is a ‘feel’ thing - hard to hear on YT reviews.
@yonathanman3 жыл бұрын
I had the same unfortunate impression! The latch option is great I loved the small form factor and the presets... BUT - the sounds were simply disappointing! I had such high hopes after being happy with the D1 but the R1 was underwhelming. I replaced it with a Chase Bliss Dark World which is similar in size but so much more convincing in terms of sound quality. I’m sure the Strymon and Meris pedals are at that higher end level as well (but they have have larger foot prints of course). I don’t think the R1 will stay on the boards of many tone savvy pros and semi pros as the months go on... The SLO is better within the Walrus Audio options in my opinion.

There is an option on the R1 to set the reverb trails ON. You have to power cycle the pedal while holding the bypass switch and I think you have to select the mode. It should be on the manual. Here are the bypass modes: True Bypass DSP+True Bypass (trails) DSP Bypass (trails)

Honestly I can't get into any walrus pedals. I love pedals more than anything, and have tried multiple walrus pedals and they've all fallen short for me. First of all the knobs have been wonky, as if the parameters are controlled digitally and not physically, as the parameters haven't been the same in the same positions. The polychrome was really bad about this, turning the speed knob from zero to noon had the same exact speed, and then after noon it shot up to a fast speed. The ACS1 seemed inferior to the Iridium in sound quality, and gain. And the Slotva was just awful, the decay all the way down still produced a 2 second freakin reverb trail so you can't even use it for normal or subtle reverb. And the algorithm just sounded tinny and digital in comparison to the bluesky. Returned every walrus product i've ever had except for the canvas because it's hard to fuck up a DI box lol.
@dver46243 жыл бұрын

I did just buy the UAD delay pedal and the Game Changer light pedal , the GC is good for studio use , waiting on the UAD to Ship. I think w some of these companies it’s more marketing than mind blowing , a few companies that make amazing pedals , gamechanger, origin effects, darkglass, horizon device’s, land devices , earthquaker, definitely not walrus . This channel is one of the best on YT not putting and shade on Rabea , I like all of the content.
