I have been suffering from iron deficiency anaemia for 8 years now. Thank you for teaching me about my condition in such a scientific, pragmatic way! I now know how to talk to my doctor about figuring out the underlying cause (which no doctor has ever tried to do) and proper dose! (Most iron I've been on is 150mg once a day, no wonder it's been 8 years and my stores are still stageringly low!) A thousand times thank you! Can't say it enough! =)

Public speaking classes would not appreciate the “okay”, but for me, it helps me separate the thoughts being stated while maintaining the connection of thought from one statement to another. I am 6 weeks pregnant and my blood test shows Ferritin only 3,1 while the hemoglobin is 12,4. I have been listening the entire lesson so by definition I'm not having anaemia so my question is : Why is the ferritin level so very low. Before watching your video I was sure I have anaemia because I'm also feeling extremly tired all though I sleep enough. The last 4 days I've been most of the day time in bed.I am afraid I may be very sick and not knowing that.If you read this and have time and u do have an explanation pls do write me your opinion. I forgot to mention that I'm 35 yrs old. Thank for posting this video.

Hello, I have made a slide about iron profile and uploaded it in my channel's Facebook page. Here is the link : facebook.com/Pathology.Tutorials/photos/a.503232946462988.1073741829.491432484309701/530301053756177/?type=1&theater To say in short: To understand iron profile it is important to understand stages of iron deficiency first. When iron is deficient , at first the storage iron begins to deplete. That means ferritin (storage form of iron ) begins to deplete. Serum iron remains normal initially. But when ferritin begins to decrease hepatic macrophages can recognize it and they begin to pump out more and more transferrin into the blood with a hope to gather more iron. So transferrin increases. That results in increase TIBC ( Total Iron Binding Capacity ) . Recall that Transferrin is the measure of TIBC. The more transferrin in the blood the more iron can bind with it. So Total Iron Binding Capacity will increase. In second stage , storage iron is depleted and serum iron also begins to deplete. In third stage Normocytic Anaemia develops. The mechanism is - bone marrow is still able to make RBC of proper size and of proper MCH , MCHC and MCV but in reduced number due to iron deficiency. In last stage iron deficiency is so severe that bonemarrow cannot maintain MCV, MCH, MCHC of RBC and microcytic hypochromic anaemia results. Hope it is helpful. Thank you for liking my video. My newer videos are shot with better camera. More videos coming soon ! Take care and stay blessed.

I've a qs please, as I know that the conversion of Fe3 into Fe2 at the beginning of the Iron absorption is done by a ferroreductase enzyme, called the duodenal cytochrob B-1 (cytB1) , is it the same as Vit.C? thanks in advance!!

@joerizmichaelflorida386610 жыл бұрын
is it possible that TIBC is also low iron deficiency anemia? why or why not?
@RabiulHaque10 жыл бұрын
Hello ! Thank you for your feed back. When there is iron deficiency - first the storage iron begins to deplete. Storage iron means ferritin. When ferritin depletes - Macrophages of liver can detect it and they begin to pump out more and more transferrin in the blood in response. Transferrin is the measure of TIBC. The more transferrin in the blood - the more iron can bind with it . So TIBC INCREASES in iron deficiency. You can check out the following link from my channel's Facebook page for more info. Following lines are taken from my channel's facebook Page : I have made a slide about iron profile and uploaded it in my channel's Facebook page. Here is the link : facebook.com/Pathology.Tutorials/photos/a.503232946462988.1073741829.491432484309701/530301053756177/?type=1&theater To say in short: To understand iron profile it is important to understand stages of iron deficiency first. what text book are you using?
@RabiulHaque10 жыл бұрын
Hello, I took help of the following Books to make this video. 1. de Gruchy's Clinical Haematology in Medical Practice (5th revised edition). 2. Rapid review Pathology : Edward F Goljan (3rd Edition, South East Asia Region) 3. Robbins and Cortan : Pathologic Basis of Disease (8th Edition) 4. Kaplan Biochemistry Review Book (For Iron Metabolism) Regarding your second question: HFE gene products have a role in iron absorption. Our body tries to absorb iron at around 1 mg/ day. 10 % of our dietary intake of iron gets absorbed. When there is mutation in HFE gene , too much iron will be absorbed. ( eg. 2 mg/day , 3 mg/day etc. which will result in iron overload slowly (e.g in 10/20 years). If I want to be more specific HFE gene products helps plasma transferrin to bind with it's mucosal cell transferrin receptor. Then transferrin can be endocytosed inside mucosal cell and take up iron and take it to different tissues via blood. Amount of endocytosed transferrin determines how much mucosal cell iron gets released into plasma and binds to transferrin. That's as far as I know. You can look into Biochemistry Text Books if you need more info. Again, Thank you for liking my videos. My newer videos are shot with better camera. Take care & stay blessed. Best wishes from Bangladesh. :)
@tutoreemimo10 жыл бұрын
I thought Ferroportins kick iron out without the need of transferrin coming in and picking them up. and TfR are only found on cells that need iron, such as RBCs. But I guess you are right since all cells technically need iron including the enterocyte themselves. Let me know if any of what I said is wrong. Thank you for the vid it was great and I hope you continue recording videos. They are really helpful. Best of Luck!!

Thank you sir for your feedback. Due to copy right issue I did not use images in my old videos. My newer videos have self drawn and computer rendered images. Upcoming videos will have self made 3D rendered animations as I have been learning it for one year (Test animation already used in title of my last video of leukaemoid reaction). Any copy right free image is always welcomed (specimen or histopathological images) that I can use attributing the source or person. I also have plans to start haematology and histopsthology slide sessions in the future. My city and current designation is shown in most of my video titles. I sincerely agree that everyone should be proud of his own nation and I am also proud of mine. Any suggestion and feedback in other videos are always welcomed. Take care and stay blessed. My best wishes for Dr Arjit sir's channel.

you should have covered more on malabsorbtion of non-heme iron because not only indian subcontinent has more vegetarians but world is becoming progressively more vegetarian ... covering more or less entire set of bad habits vis-a-vis iron in diet be it cooking or be it not knowing what promotes or inhibits non-heme iron would be helpful ... prevention is better than cure ... a doctor needs to know these things because he faces ignorant patients on daily basis

My hemoglobin is 3.0. They wanted to give me 3 units of blood. I don't want to take it cause the transfusions make me sick. I take iron pills 2 times a day. Any suggestion for me?
