Very happy that your friend is OK!! It emphasizes the reason that all the safety gear is required for every time on the track. I hope the car is repairable. It is always sad to see a race car taken permanently off the track. It will be very interesting to watch the rebuild if you get the "go ahead" to repair it.

Hi Steve - First off, we are all thankfull your friend was able to get away with only a minor burn ... with fire on both sides of the passanger compartment this easily could have been much more serious. Thanks to you and your friend for sharing the actual incident and taking us along on the review ... I'm sure we will all learn a lot.

Thanks for the comments. indeed many people on the track did see it and had second taught on fire suppression systems.. which is a good thing to get it

Glad that nobody was badly hurt. Looks like it may not be viable to repair, but I will watch and hope I'm wrong. Best of luck Steve

Thanks for the comments, part 2 is just out.... its a high cost but doable

Hello Steve, with a fire extinguishing system it certainly wouldn't have turned out that way. The main thing is that nothing happened to the your friend. That will be a lot of work. Good video👍🏻 Greetings🙋🏻

@@General813 ext systems are for driver to get additional seconds to safely eject from car on fire. Not to save the car. And need to be used immidietly . That was too late to save the car. Waiting for video nr 3 to see what was the cause. Looks like some leak after the fuel pump allowed for so much fuel around everywhere. Seeing the clamps used in this car i am affraid it was bad connections mabe weekend on gravel trip before...

I enjoy you taking us to the track to experience this sport with you. I thought at first perhaps your car caught fire but that didn’t seem possible since you take incredible care of your cars. Watching the other guy catch fire was reality seldom seen on a KZbin video. To me this vehicle is now a total loss. Which makes me wonder if these race cars are insurable? What company would take the risk? An owner would have to just take the risk themselves and throw caution to the wind. You can rebuild your own car but this driver is having you do the rebuild estimate so he must not be able to do his own work. If you do this rebuild, it is going to be a very interesting series. Good luck with parts. Too bad the company is no longer in business.
@D3Sshooter3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comments, the point is there is no insurance at all on the track for cars or between cars... there is one for third party damage. Yes, this will cost a lot to rebuild ,,, my last video is just out Part 2

Glad nobody got hurt, will be interesting rebuild, hopefully put in a fire extinguisher system?

Indeed, that is what I had already recommended to the owner before he got on the track : and get that battery and electrical fuel pomp away from the tank

Glad your friend is ok - chassis tubes at rear next to the fire could have suffered too? Lots of fuel lines failing on stuff cause of ethanol - could this have been a factor here? Rubber fuel line failing?

Yes , i could have been the case

Difficult decisions to make with this one. Maybe it could be a donor car itself. Needs dismantling and rebuilding to such an extent, maybe look at recover as much money as he can and look at another race car instead. Best wishes Marc.

Thank you, yes it is possible to fix it but to a high cost ...as you stated transplant the engine to another one without engine... But they are hard to find

it's good that nobody got hurt. i actually a bit scarred with car fire as my dad's old honda accord burnt to the ground last month. apparently there was short on the pump wiring and probably a leak? it's an old carbureted accord with fuel pump in the engine bay. there's no killswitch, nothing.the fire started there when he turn the keys. we could only watch and wait for the fire squad after emptying a fire extinguisher on it didnt do much. it made me put my own project, doing a weber swap on my 97' proton's gti-on hold. as i had to figure properly safety mechanism like a killswitch for the fuel pump and where should i put the pump.

Good to hear that no person was hurt, those car fires are truly scary, it all happen so fast.
@D3Sshooter3 ай бұрын
Lucky that nobody got injured in your case.... best is to have the fuel pomp away from the engine and have a fire suppression system with nozzles, I have that in all my race cars
@andrzejs7493 ай бұрын
Did You dectected what exact part of fuel system was leaking ? Fuel tank was hit in gravel trap so badly that it cracked or some fuel lines leaked ? or one of those worm type clamps failed? propably hard to tell now :-/

Wow, happy to hear your friend is all good after this serious incident, gee what must of your thoughts following your frinds seeing his car on fire, end of the day everyone is well n safe, be good to see what happens next with the car
@D3Sshooter3 ай бұрын
Its a weird feeling, there is nothing you can do about it... You see his car burn, can't inform him, nor help as long as he is driving and that far ahead. Knowing very well that its going to exploded ( gastank as that is where the fire is) or burts into an inferno when he stops... All you can do is follow him , check that he gets out and stop to help

Steve..was this a practice day? and are there racing stewards with flags on hand? and what octane is this fuel? great capture of the event and am glad all is well physically with your friend..
@D3Sshooter3 ай бұрын
Yes, this was test/practice day... yes we had stewards 3 of them but not in that spot. Fuel was 98 so nothing special...

I noticed a fire extinguisher in one of the shots. Was it actually used during the fire? Or forgotten to activate due to all the commotion?
@D3Sshooter3 ай бұрын
It was used , however a burning fuel tank and fuel line is hard to deal with... He got out of the car and started immediate to use the handheld fire extinguisher.. On my cars I have system with pipes and nozzles throughout the car.... that might have saved this car.
@windmill19653 ай бұрын
@@D3Sshooter Thanks. I didn't see that this car did not have the full system with pipes and nozzles.

Extinguishers are usually aimed at the engine not the rear of the car.

never touch a car that was on flames. Some chemicals could cause the need for an amputation when they touch your skin (as mentioned in many Haynes manuals)
