I found this song six years ago when my wife passed away,played it at her funeral . Best version on KZbin beautiful song sang by a beautiful person. Thank you Rachel.

So sorry for your loss, Robert. I first heard this song probably 40 years ago, and learned to sing it about 25 years ago so I could sing it to my wife for our anniversary. She passed away 3 months ago, and this is one of several songs I find myself singing over and over - but mostly alone, because I can't sing it in front of people without breaking down in tears. My luve was like a red, red rose . . .

I keep returning to this heavenly performance, more than any other on youtube. I have no preconceptions about how Robert Burns should be sung, so I have little sympathy for those commenters who say it is not "authentic". I just know an angel when I hear one. And it's not just her perfect voice. She is so at ease, so glowing, so loving, so modest. It's as if she takes no credit for herself, just a messenger from heaven.

Well said.. The poem was not a song, so it can be interpreted in any way.. Rachel's way is stunning. Come back to Tobermory Rachel.. we love you here

More people should hear this version of this song, the artist's voice is beautiful. I was lucky enough to see some of her set at Bannockburn Live in Stirling last weekend.

I was there too! I hadn't heard of her before that, but after maybe the first two songs at that show I knew this person and her music was something very, very special. And I've listened to her pretty much nonstop ever since!

O my Luve’s like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June; O my Luve’s like the melodie That’s sweetly play’d in tune. As fair are thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my Dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. Till a’ the seas gang dry, my Dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun: I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only Luve! And fare thee weel, a while! And I will come again, my Luve, Tho’ it were ten thousand mile!)

alsbigsmoke Patriotism and Nationalism are two different things Im a patriot love Scotland with all my heart but have a horror of all things connnected to nationalism (Natzism Fascismo are all connected to nationalism) I no longer live in Scotland but when I was young it was a very sectarian country I was so amazed when I Imoved to London in the 70's no one mentioned religion. There was no biogotry that is why I would never support the SNP )I actually belonged to the party in the days of Winnie Ewing A great lady. It has now become a party of bullying where people are afraid to speak out against it.To be honest I dont know why the English simply dont say "let them Go" Would be better for them!!

Beautiful rendition of 'My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose' but listen to Eddie Reader's version of 'Ae Fond Kiss' from the recent 'Burn's Night 2021 With The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra' evening and tell me that this is not the greatest love song of all time sung by a woman who was *born* to represent the genius of 'The Bard' in the 21st century.

As a relative of Robert Burns I would appreciate when someone sings this with an orchestra, which Rabbie would have loved! that you sing the correct words.. A beautiful timbre but some air and the correct words would knock this out of the park for me. And yes, I write and sing but do not perform anymore...oh...that was so long ago...
@PullTheTriggerB1TCH6 жыл бұрын

I absolutely hate the jazzing up or down of Burns songs. Be they ever so well sung and orchestrated ,there is something completely inauthentic to my ears.I suppose it may be the only way to get them to a 21st Century audience but so wrong.

Old pome, new choon kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXmunX9oht2empI. Burns' poem "Comin' Thro' The Rye" makes a serious point but was paired with an inappropriately jaunty tune which has a similar title ("Comin' Frae The Town").
@masterjennifer45496 жыл бұрын
In my own opinion, her voice is far too airy for me to enjoy.. but that doesn't mean it's bad, it's just preference. Karen Matheson's version will always be my favorite, it's more rich. Yet, the orchestra in this version was better. Again, this is my own opinion.

Lovely voice, but for every one who loves the poem... It's the wrong words..! She gets in mess. Ruins the meaning of the song. I mean great voice..! But song ruined.. One of the greatest pieces of lyrical genius every written. Ruined. Can't dislike it though. She's far too talented for a dislike. Thumb up!
@PullTheTriggerB1TCH6 жыл бұрын
yes but who gives a shit......really such bad manners. She got out of it well. Any way it was written for a man to sing.....well adapted for a man to sing...if its true that R B heard it sung by a country girl.
