Exactly. At first I thought the backlash was going to be over her race and the critics would embarrass themselves. (Which is not to say you can't criticize race swapping, but simply that it's a minor deal unworthy of outrage. Especially in this case because her father is Polish.) Technically Miles morales is woke. Like it or not. Think about it. Spiderman is a great success So they redo Spiderman (albeit a different universe) and make him black. Iron man was great. So they kill him off and replace him with a young black genius girl. Thor was great so they make him not Thor And replace him for a while with his ex gf as Lady Thor. What ever way you look at it, it's still blackwashing and lame. The only reason Miles gets let off was because they made half an effort at least and created a new character with a different backstory, rather than just re-casting Peter Parker as Black, which is what they wanted at first. But to just appropriate another hero and change the name is still wokeness. Side noteI I do like Miles Morales, and his backstory. But am still aware they could have chose for him to have new powers like a termite, or snake or or flea, but chose to still rip off Spiderman because they know Spiderman merch sells and a new hero with new powers who's black might not sell very well. Let's be clear here. The issue isn't that they are changing the races or genders of the characters, they've done that in the past with things like "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" (with Brandy as Cinderella with a black sister and white stepmother and sister, an asian prince with a white father and black mother, ect) and no one cared because the movie was still fun and the races weren't the main focuses of the movie or marketing. The real issue is that changing the races and genders (or making things "woke") is the only reason for, and the main focus of, many of these current movies and comes at the cost of story, entertainment and creativity. Taking all the fun, enjoyment and soul out of a movie in order to push an agenda is never going to be successful. For example: They managed to destroy the entire plot and theme of "Mulan" without changing the race of the characters after all, going from a woman working hard and overcoming adversity to achieve greatness (an actual strong female character) to someone who was being held down and had super powers and didn't need to grow or overcome anything because she was always perfect (a Mary Sue). The great and sad irony of all this nonsense from Disney is that they are systematically destroying the actual female role models that were built up in their earlier movies, women who grew over time, overcame problems and achieved great things while being women, with their new "strong female characters" that are little more than planks of wood (in terms of personality) who embody the worst stereotypes of poorly written male protagonists; super powers from no where, emotional detachment, ect. To go from a message of "you are amazing, if you work hard you can achieve greatness" to "you are magically better than everyone else, evil men are holding you back" isn't going to do young girls (or anyone else) looking for role models any favors.

I still think it's an issue. Don't change already established characters, make new ones. It's setting a precedent. You wouldn't race swap Tiana or Mulan which is fine. Nobody should race swap those characters either, but stop race swapping white characters. This is one of the reasons I liked Encanto. New and great characters that are diverse.

I think changing genders and race for roles can be a huge problem. I don't want to see native american vikings, or scandinavian samurais etc. These things ruins immersion and that matters a lot imo. There is also differences between men and women, so swapping gender for roles usually means that the characters doesn't make sense anymore. I'm all for diversity, but for crying out loud just make something new. I don't think hollywood or disney should be allowed to much creativity with other people's work. You need to hire based on characters descriptions in the books, and the story need to match as well. If you want to add a little humour to scenes etc that's fine. But there should be limits to how much freedom you have.
