I heard one woman’s trick was to use a separate email address just for stores online and then when she needed a specific thing she would check that email to see if she had any coupons for the item she needed

I'm 53 and it took me forever to learn how to budget. I'd hear things like "pay yourself first" and that made no sense. I'm grateful for the Ramsey systems and especially for you, Rachel, for breaking it down in a way that has helped me to stay out of debt for years now. I know I have to allot myself an allowance and when the spending money is gone it's gone but I do not pay myself first. I still don't know what that's supposed to mean. I pay my responsibilities first, I pay my savings and sinking accounts seconds and I can spend the rest. It's not rocket science but it took me over twenty years to figure that out.
@kathleenmathews609611 ай бұрын
Pay yourself first is about putting a certain percent of your wages in investments. You are building wealth. Some people, if they don’t do this, can end up spending this ‘extra’ money on ‘wants’.

We found local farmers to get half a cow and pig every year. Saves so much per pound and he is organic farmer. Plus meal planning saves tons of money and time. My mother taught me well.

Yes. Online shopping is my overspend. I’ve learned to put it in my cart and leave it a few days (they even send me discounts when I do that). But when I wait I usually do not order. 😃
@Alextheprod3 жыл бұрын
The add to cart strategy (3:15) is a really good one. Sometimes online retailers will send you a coupon if you leave stuff in your cart for more than 24 hours to incentivize buying. I’ve saved a lot of money on bigger purchases by getting 5-25% off because I’ve left items in my cart the next day. They were necessary items and not just impulse buys so I was going to buy them sale or not, but might as well save when I can.

Great video and very relatable! Thank you. I find i spend less with click and collect ( curb side pick up) groceries as I’m not tempted by my I store impulse buying which I always do 🤦🏼♀️

A big tip for groceries, don't shop on an empty stomach. It will be hard to stick to a list if you are hungry and you see the ice cream or candy bar by the checkout stand.

I overspend on restaurants and life insurance. I also overspent 1 month on clothing when I bought a watch I really liked. I am concerned that we are headed towards a more subscription based economy as businesses are constantly looking for ways to increase their revenue and subscriptions seem like the next logical move and I DO NOT like subscriptions. I would rather pay once and be done.

Hi Rachel, You are absolutely rigt about these buy no pay laters schemes. P.s. I started unsubscribing from those emails 9 months ago because I would receive certain companies emailing me 3 times a day with count downs of sales. Now on reflection of your video I have realised it was actually a money saving step.

I love the every dollar app! I’m still shuffling money from one place to another when something comes up or I overspend a category. But I’m learning where all my money goes and where I can reduce spending/over spending. Or even increase the necessary categories if I consistently spend more than I planned. It gives a nice visual of hoe every dollar is allotted so I’m not wondering if ther will be more month than money, and Ican actually see which category has to give up some dollars if I overspent another one.

I have my DC memorized too. Eek. 😬 And adding stuff to my cart I call my online window shopping. I do this a lot with Amazon where I'll put it in my cart. Wait a couple days and then add the items to my "Save for Later" list. A lot of times, I'll end up keeping them there or deleting them completely.

Girl set up a spam email. That way u still get the coupons for when u want to buy something but don't have to see it. And make sire your phone notifications are turned off for that email. And for Amazon, I put everything in my list instead of my cart. Then my favs r there but I don't have to buy it.

I canceled mine, since I don't use the amazon music or movies. And, I don't need stuff the next day. If you sign up for subscription and save, the items ships free. If you keep stuff in your cart until it's over $25, it ships free.

So true about the minimum purchase to get free shipping. If you return anything and pay for shipping, you won't get that back so I do end up buying something extra to get the free shipping- in case of a return. --- After pay is horrible.... I would not recommend it to anyone.. Don't get into debt!
