I didnt spend enough time away, or maybe its just his breed. I made a point to get out of the house without him, even to just roam around. Some days I worked long hours too but he isjust always so clingy in the cutest way. Hes a really goo boy and listens well, He will wait patiently in the crate when I come home and not howl, but when he knows Im about to leave he goes nuts. He bites and claws the crate (even warping and bending it) Its insane. Hes totally fine in there till the moment he hears me grab my keys or hears my shoes. And its really sad to hear him, but he only ever does it when im leaving =( If im shwering or doing dishes or cooking where I couldnt keep an eye on him hes fine. but he hates the thought of me not even being home so much that hes literally bent a crate to the point its hard to open the door. I guess I could of spent more time away from him, but its not like hes scared of the crate or hates it. Its just SO hot here, and I cant bring him everywhere with me. That and not feeding him more variety of raw foods. hes pretty picky =( and its frustrating.

I tried the farmers dog and my puppy didn’t like it. Then tried spot and tango and my puppy liked it more especially their unkibble but I am now making my own food for him. He gets kibble in his snuffle toys and I add dog vitamins to the food I make to ensure nutrients. Some snacks are frozen tiny peppers and green beans. I have a few dog food cookbooks too. Your advice is terrific. Thank you!

Hey Rachel😊 my puppy is now over a year old and we’ve been living in the same apartment for as long as we’ve had him. Every time the neighbors come home and walk up the steps above my apartment he barks and doesn’t stop, I figured he’d be used to the noise by now since he hears it every single day. He is decently socialized but he gets fearful with noises. I reward him when he stops barking but it doesn’t seem to be working, Any tips on how to stop this?

slight correction: negative reinforcement is not synonymous with corrections. negative reinforcement is more so on the positive side than anything. it just means to take away something uncomfortable in order to reinforce a certain behavior. you're referring to positive punishment, where something uncomfortable or aversive is added in order to help decrease a certain behavior. this should be avoided with puppies, at least until around 6-8 months.

We just got a new puppy 4 weeks ago (Dutch Shepherd / Malinois mix). At first, she ate her food extremely fast (most puppies seem to be that way because of being fed together in a litter....they have to eat fast and sometime be aggressive in order to make sure they get some food). After about a week, she slowed down and after about two weeks, we can put her daily 3 cups of food (kibble) in her bowl and she will come and go as she is hungry. Sometimes, there is still food left over in the morning. We are giving her whole food (chicken meat, steak, hamburger, frozen raw patties, pumpkin, etc.. at different times of the day so that might be partly why she doesn't feel the need to (or want to) eat all of her kibble at once. I think it depends on the dog and the situation. She is currently an only dog and I think that is easier to do. I had a German Shepherd growing up and we filled her bowl in the morning and she ate whenever she wanted....sometimes it would last a couple of days. If you have more dogs, I think they have FOMO and scarf everything down.

We're having such a hard time potty training & socializing our new puppy. We live in an apartment building where the units are indoors, and we have to carry her until we get outside or else she'll pee in the hallway/elevator. She's also extremely timid of strangers, people can be walking by 50 feet away and she'll yelp and try to run off even if they aren't paying her any attention.

Hi Rachel! I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Farmhound hide chews. I’ve always heard that rawhide was a no-no for dogs, but the websites differentiate their hide chews from “industrial, processed rawhide chews” and say they are “Transparently sourced from 100% pasture-raised, grass-fed cattle, these naturally dried hides are the complete hide. They are NOT stripped, processed with toxic chemicals, or dyed like many industrially made rawhides.” I’ve seen some other pet influencers talk about them on IG but wanted to know what your thoughts are. Thanks!

Ohhhh I just looked those up and wow, actually looks good. I haven’t personally fed yet, but I’m gonna grab some. I’d definitely try for my boys! They’re single ingredient. I’d like to know how their dried (some “cook” at extremely high temps which can make digestion harder for some dogs)

look into yak milk chews =D my puppy was obsessed. They make different sizes. Also rolled beef cheek, they are like 5$ at a farm feed store but last a few weeks easily. Upwards of a few months if its a baby baby. (My pup is 8 months, had him since 3 months, and hes only on his second one. He eats raw bones too so hes got the crunching power, these just get softer as they are chewed and dont smell or leave stains =D )

For raw, I’d definitely start by following the feeding guidelines on the packaging - as they’re all a bit different based on the meat %. It’s generally 2.5% of their body weight. I’m not against Primal. They have decent sourcing and are minimally processed, but some of their flavors are lower protein than I prefer and for whatever reason - my dogs weren’t a huge fan. That said, I’d feed it over an extruded kibble for sure!

Hi Rachel, Do you have any suggestions for a dog with recurrent calcium oxalate bladder stones? My 7-year-old male dog has had 2 bladder stone surgeries less than a year apart. The vet put him on a prescription diet which obviously didn't work the first time around since he needed a second surgery. Now in addition to the Rx diet (Purina Pro Plan UR Urinary Ox/St wet food), he also has to take chewable potassium citrate supplements twice a day and his urine pH finally seems to be where we want it. So honestly, I'm not sure if the Rx diet is working (I don't think it's making a difference) or if it's the Potassium Citrate that's helping. Do you have any recommendations for me? I really don't want him on the prescription diet for the rest of his life. These are the ingredients for a can of Purina Pro Plan UR Urinary Ox/St food: Ingredients: Chicken, Water Sufficient For Processing, Rice, Meat By-Products, Liver, Powdered Cellulose, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Magnesium Sulfate, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Citrate, Natural Smoke Flavor, Added Color, Calcium Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Mono And Dicalcium Phosphate, Ferrous Sulfate, Niacin, Copper Sulfate, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Folic Acid, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Biotin, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Selenite. How do you prevent resource guarding? My 4.5mo old golden retriever puppy who had otherwise always been okay with us near his food bowl started this bad habit and now doesn’t give many warning signs, the growl turns to snapping quickly which makes it hard for us to approach him carefully with food/treats in hand. He stays in this “mood” for up to 10min after his meal is done making him unpredictable.
@wesleasmith14912 жыл бұрын
everytime you get close, offer a VERY high value treat. this way, he will make a positive association with your presence, instead of seeing you as a threat to his resource. if he has a chew or toy, offer a trade up with him with someone of highest value, so he again makes that positive association with having something taken away. when he eats, leave him alone completely, and let him finish so he doesn't get stressed out enough to lash out at you or anything else

border doodle? that's a very odd and irresponsible combination. it wouldn't shock me if he behaves like this because he has two different genetic drives mixed together. that driving-herding drive meshed with that soft mouth retrieval drive is just behavioral issues waiting to happen. look out for that in the future

Hi, just curious I thought you were doing raw food diet for your dogs?
@sandravilla76602 жыл бұрын
Hello Rachel I have a 4 month old puppy. I watch all your videos. I try hard to give him the best. At this time I can’t do raw meat. What are your thoughts on Arcana Kibble by Petco? I currently have my puppy on Nulo but just learned he is allergic to chicken. I can’t find anything that doesn’t contain a bit of chicken, except for Arcana. HELP!!!

Rachel mentioned The Farmer’s Dog in this video, and said that they create a meal based on your dog’s allergies & preferences. This is completely true! My neighbor’s dog is allergic to chicken as well, and uses The Farmers Dog too! It is an online ordering company though, so if you aren’t alright with that then I don’t know how to help.

Rachel please do a video about GIANT dog crates. My puppy is 8 months, over 80 pounds. Was told hed be 90 full grown, its fine cause i love big dogs. But he has the biggest crate I could find, and hes getting cramped. Hes still got a lot of growing to do (malamute mix). He barely fits into a 48" and I just ordered a 54" but I dont even think that would be big enough =( do you have experience with giant puppies?
@RachelFusaro2 жыл бұрын
Yesss, have you tried impact crates?
@rianlynn38542 жыл бұрын
@@RachelFusaro HI! You saw my comment, I am so happy! Been watching you since I brought the fluffy boy home! (he eats all raw thanks to you) To answer though, impact no, but I've tried looking at xl, xxl, xxxl and giant dog crates. They say they are made for great danes and such but are still only 48"L and that makes no sense to me cause my puppy would be nose to but in that with no room to sit =( Granted Im doing a search and do not know much about individual companies. is there one you could please recommend?

Is it better to get one puppy then wait a little time before getting another? I want to assure my second dog likes the puppy I have now. She’s 6 months old.

Have you had experience with formm big food is this a good brand. We have a dog that is allergic to any grain. We are hoping to be getting a puppy in a couple weeks and was looking at this brand of food for the new puppy. I wasn’t to sure if we could feed the puppy the same food or have to get one in the same brand that’s not grain free.

When feeding a puppy by hand, what would you feed if the meal is raw food?

I use disposable gloves when hand feeding my puppy her raw food or just wash my hands after!

Hey @rachel is it ok if I switch my 10 week old puppy to a balanced barf diet? I’ve sourced a good supplier here in Australia and they say it is fine to transition my pup to Barf at this age. Cheers
@kristaanne2144 Жыл бұрын
Yes! Puppies can eat raw as soon as they’re weaned as long as it’s balanced, and actually will be more open to trying different proteins, etc.

My 8 month old miniature golden doodle. Goes to sleep at night fine in the laundry room. She wakes up every night 5-6 hours later and barks. She does not need to potty. She wants to be with us in our room. I really want her to learn to sleep all night in the other room.
@RachelFusaro2 жыл бұрын
This is common, and even at 8 months their bladder can still be developing (esp for smaller dogs). When they wake up, I’d keep the routine SUPER simple. When they cry, open crate with zero excitement and zero energy, just open crate and go directly to potty area. Don’t interact, don’t play, don’t pet and don’t talk. Just give them change to potty then go straight back to crate. It’ll take a bit to re-train this but stay consistent- also make sure they’re comfortable in crate. Is it getting too cold/warm for them? Is there a noise in the house waking them up?
@davegerrard6857 Жыл бұрын
Your mean. Just let them sleep in your room. She'll probably sleep thru the night

Indoor fourfooted beasts Idolatry Prov.3 KJV [5] Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. If you use your indoor fourfooted beast for protection, you are committing idolatry. If you praise your indoor fourfooted beast more than you do God, you are commiting idolatry. If you are giving your indoor fourfooted beast more time than you do God, you are commiting idolatry. If you and your indoor fourfooted beast go everywhere together and are a "thing", then you are commiting idolatry. If you spend more time training your indoor fourfooted beast than worshipping God then you are committing idolatry. If your indoor fourfooted beast is your best freind, then you are commiting idolatry. God should be Your bestie. If you clothe or accesorize or paint your indoor fourfooted beast nails, you are commiting idolatry. If you got your indoor fourfooted beast certified as an emotional support animal, you are commiting idolatry. If you consider your indoor fourfooted beast as your child, your are commiting idolatry. If you tongue kiss your indoor fourfooted beast, you are commiting idolatry and beastiality. If you treat your indoor fourfooted beast like a god or human or replace God or a human in any way, you are commiting idolatry. If your fourfooted beast disrupts you from meditating on God in any way, you are commiting idolatry. Repent. Romans 1 KJV [21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. [22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, [23] And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible , and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. [24] Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: [25] Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. Gods children turned from him to idols and indoor fourfooted beasts and such. God gave them up to uncleanliness, guilty of original sin again. Because they worshipped the creature more than the creator. The remedy is fervent faith and repentance. Unrepentance is unforgivable to Jesus.

How can you like this food brand? It has so many chemicals!!! Their beef recipe has lentils which is horrible!!! The turkey recipe has chickpeas which is terrible!!! I can't even look at any other recipes. Because of you I only feed raw fresh food with only whole ingredients and no synthetic vitamins. I am disappointed in this video.
@RachelFusaro2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, not every dog tolerates raw 😔 I’ve been working with more and more pet parents and it’s re-opening my eyes to the fact that every dog is different. Yes, FD uses synthetic vitamins (so do many raw brands). AND… I’m meeting more and more pet parents that are immunocompromised, so feeding raw makes them wary. All that said, I’ll always prioritize fresh foods in their most natural state and LOVE your dedication to your pets 👏
