Every choir should have a conductor like Dmitry Korcak..

To actually conduct this in Rachmaninov's home country in a beautiful (I'm assuming it's Orthodox) cathedral... Now this is a huge dream of mine! This conductor and the choir are so lucky! I envy them! Shame about the distortion during the fortissimo parts, but this is still such an emotionally moving performance of a gorgeous masterpiece...

I'm trying to pick a favourite moment. I cant. But the two moments that come close are the delicious silence at 16:00 and the THUNDEROUS choral entry after it, and the octavists at 20:45. Slava tebe bozhe! xx

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on me, Amen. O Lord, You who steadied the hand of Peter as he began to sink on the stormy sea, if you are with me, no one is against me. Grant to me the shield of faith and the mighty armour of the Holy Spirit to protect me and guide me to do Your will. The future I put into Your hands, O Lord, and I follow You to a life in Christ. Amen. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, now and forever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Astazi, literatura rusa are un adevarat tezaur cultural.

+Barry Wilson What specifically is your question? This is a professional choir from Russia--in the description, there is information about the conductor, etc. If you visit my site, ww.oktavism.com, you'll find quite a bit of info about the oktavists Wichniakov and Miller.

+k barber Thanks for the quick response. I will look at your site. I have a larger screen now and can see the group is from the Victor Popov Academy of Choral Arts. Are these all students, a mix of students and professionals or a professional choir? Their website is in Russian and the English is "under construction - 2013". ( I will have to try the general Google translate feature ). Along with the oktavists your site covers, I was interested in seeing the bio's of the individuals in the group. I like to listen to The All Night Vigil when working, and this performance really stood out to me. Thanks again k barber.

Interesting performance of the All-night Vigil, but I prefer Valery Polyansky's rendition. So much more ethereal. To each his or her own I suppose.

Beautiful, but too much focus on the conductor for my liking. I find it distracting. Of course he's indispensable and does an awesome job but I don't need to see his mug or his antics up close. So I'm just listening to it rather than watching it, which is fine.

Just think how many in this choir might have been sent to Ukrainian as conscripts? Stupid right. Sometimes there are stupid wars and this is one. Or is it Gods Will.

Performance was ruined. I had been really enjoying the performance, especially the conductor's bringing out particular voice parts when they had the most important lines. Then the whole performance was RUINED; an AD broke in only about 10 seconds before the end. Right as the bases have a beautiful run down the scale, to the low B flat, ending of the 2nd movement. That is unconscionable!!! IF you allow ADs PLEASE have them in-between movements. I'm a singer myself & it's so disrespectful to the singers and the listener.

Calm down. I have no control over whether ads are aired on this content or not--only you do. The way you can remove them is to pay for KZbin premium. If you don't want to pay for it; you're stuck with ads.

@@TheOktavismChannelI'm sorry, I was under the impression that the person uploader was the one responsible. But I'm not able to pay $120, American Dollars, to go AD free. Interesting, though too, I just listened to another performance. Although there were 2 ADs, they were both at the ends of the two movements. Not sure the difference as to why 1 performances would be handled differently. I have found other compositions that have no advertisements within them at all. Puzzling!

@@scottmanton6711 That is bizarre. Yeah, I don't pay for KZbin either. Too much money. You could download the concert using a youtube to mp3 or youtube video downloader site and then just watch on your computer--hope that helps!
