Racing In The Baja 500 After One Lesson -- DRIVE/TRAIN

The Drive's Chris Cantle goes to the Vegas Off Road Experience in Boulder City, Nevada to learn some off-roading skills, because in just a couple of days he'll be driving in the amateur-punishing Baja 500 off-road race in Mexico. Can he do it?

For one..score wouldn't allow a short sleeve shirt..he must have had his suit unzipped. N a tinted helmet shield is common in desert racing

I do agree that the intake manifold does look very similar to LS intake. at 0:57 you can see the oil fill cap on the left of the valve cover , an LS is different.

but at 1:00 he also says'' power comes from an easy going ford 4cyl plucked out of the old ranger'' then it shows the pic that looks like a LS..... so maybe they just have no clue about what they are saying

Putting an older under powered 4 banger in a 100K$ truck would be a little strange. pretty sure there running in class 6. But then again the guy doesn't seem to have any mechanical knowledge, so it could be possible.

Yes! They just filmed Dust to Glory 2 in the Baja 1000 this Friday/Saturday. My dad's team was racing in the same class as the group they were filming (50+ age on dirt bikes)

By the time we got back into town, 1410 was still lost in the desert with a blown transmission. Took Tony and a couple other fellas days to get it back to Ensenada.

Sort of right..but that's not the reason.windows get very dirty, n very hard to see.n some race cars race with a windshield.

brandon maxwell Do it! A friend of mine did with like an 03 Ranger and it's fun as hell and performs awesomely. Took him a long time to build it (it costs a lot) but he said it was totally worth it.

G4Disco It's an awesome experience. My dad races the 1000 almost every year on a dirt bike with his friends and it's something we look forward to every year. I'm 18 now so I'll be racing it soon (not next year though because it's expected to be a 2000 mile race since it will be the 50th anniversary)
