Can you explain the complex gear box when it will never be used...? Will there ever be the option of a RC conversion....well there won't, so what's the point of a complex gear box...? 🤔 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@RacingBrick5 ай бұрын
@@moonlight5050 I talked about this in my Ferrari Daytona SP3 review already, I think the gearbox is not necessary. But apparently people want to have a complex gearbox in a 1:8 scale supercar because "it has to be there for this price", even if they only build it once and never use it.

I know some people complain that it isn’t a new McLaren or the F1 but I personally love that they made the P1. It’s where most of the modern design language of McLaren came from with the curves and design. It’s also a part of the holy trinity of hybrid supercars that many people still reminisce about today. Maybe in the future they’ll make a 918 and a LaFerrari so that we can have the full trinity in LEGO.

@Camell5135 ай бұрын
Exactly!! The P1 was McLaren's return. I'm so excieded to see it!
@tren1335 ай бұрын
Fair point, but still the F1 is arguably the greatest supercar ever made, and Lego has the McLaren license and chose the P1 instead? Also this led to a second orange 1:8 supercar, when they could have made the F1 in silver (road) or black (race) trim to give a new color to their 1:8 collection. Lastly, more than one highly detailed P1 kits already exist from third party manufacturers, such as the equally detailed 1:10 CaDA "Assassin XR", but AFAIK no detailed brick built model of the F1 exists. Maybe Lego couldn't get the BMW license for the engine in the F1 or something, but I'm still kind of disappointed they chose the P1 over the F1. IMO the two greatest modern supercars are the McLaren F1 and the Porsche Carrera GT, and sadly neither has a Lego (or third party for that matter) version.

I have mixed feelings about this set. I absolutely love the complex gearbox, as it is a refreshing new gearbox compared to the same gearbox we saw in the Lambo and Ferrari over the past 4 years. In the photos, the headlights looked weird, the angles seemed off, but in person seeing it in this video, the angles look really well and while the headlights still look weird, they look better in person because of the shapes I didn’t notice before. I didn’t expect you to actually DO IT holy crap On a side note, the p1 is pretty decent, it’s nice to see a brand new gear box. My only gripe is the front, I feel it could’ve been done a little better but the rest of the car looks remarkably true to the real thing, the rear end is so well done and accurate that it almost makes up for the front end. The subtle and smooth lines are very very well captured in the Lego version. If you just exclude the front end, it’s almost a perfect recreation. I have the Sian and Daytona and the new p1 is a good addition.

Biggest competitor will be CADA 1:10 Mclaren P1 design by Pvdp. 1:10 Scale also comes with 7 speed gearbox, same door opening mechanism, same spoiler deploy mechanism. Cons will be non licensing from Mclaren but pros will be smaller for storage & half of Lego price.

i have the cada p1 and i have to say the cons will also be less appealing look, unconventional building techniques, less satisfying building experience, more loose/falling pieces. Also u cant compare the price of a 1:10 scale with a 1:8 scale and say its cheaper. the lego 1:10 cars also cost the same as the cada p1, so youre paying the same amount of money for worse quality but with a few more functions

I'm building this right now, and it's very well designed, however I'm having issues with the gearbox not shifting very well, all the gears are perfectly aligned, it's just slack and bend in the shafts leading from the paddle shifter to the gear box, it's not moving the gears enough, I was thinking of buying carbon fibre axel shafts and gluing them into their connections to make it solid, but not sure yet.

I think a way to fix the headlight shape so the front looks more like a P1 rather than a C8 would be changing the two black "tube" pieces connected to the long white headlight piece near the center of the car to orange, thatd make the headlights seem a bit smaller i guess and the shape of the front would resemble a p1 more than the corvette

However I have two questions: - Is it correct that this model has no Ackermann steering? I really don't know why LEGO is not implementing this authentic function on their models, it is not that hard, and they even managed to do it in 1980 on the 8860 supercar chassis. And on this year's G Mercedes. - Isn't it disturbing, that you have to pull up the doors directly, as the left out the push botton this time? It is again a function that was "invented" by LEGO decades ago.

While this is of course very expensive, I'm glad this isn't even more expensive than the last set! Looks pretty good overall and I'm pleased with this; the choice of going for an older car produced between 2013 and 2015 is definitely odd. Older more classical or legendary cars are typically chosen for Icons/Creator Expert and Speed Champions, while Technic tends to go for current or upcoming vehicles (although Dom's Dodge Charger bucked the trend) The only thing I was worried about was the build itself; the Ferrari Daytona I skipped as I noticed and read that a lot of the chassis and inner mechanics are laid out the same way as the Lamborghini Sian, bar the odd small change in part use here and there (of course both sets were designed by the same person). Even though the Daytona was almost half off, I didn't feel like spending a lot again to build a fraction of the set mostly the same way again. With this P1 though, it's a lot more convincing and seems fresher than the last ones. I might go for it, but with a 50% discount, which has happened to all the last four sets of the 1/8th Supercars as Technic doesn't tend to do well at full price in the UK and itsn't as popular (unless they're heavily discounted which is all the time, after some wait).

You asked not to compare it to the MOC, but I have it (and 100% real lego as well, made with instructions from the designer). I'm a BIG McLaren fan. So this one will be added to my collection at some point (but not at the release price). The MOC doesn't have a gearbox. People complained about this, but as others have stated: you won't use it after building. I think for the MOC it is a win. The MOC replaces that with doors that can be opened with gears and the suspension can be altered in height. When doing the suspension manual, it does take some time. I also love that the set is a P1. I would have gone even further back and have an F1 GTR instead ;). I just love the look of the P1 and F1 more than the rest. Although seeing the Solus on Goodwood, I think Lego also could have gone with that. As for the comparison. gearbox vs suspension+doors and I'm sure this one will look more smooth because of the custom panels. And with the different color to the MOC, I'm sure they will look great next to eachother.

Thanks for sharing details about the MOC. I only asked not to request a comparison from me, as I don't have that built, but it's nice to hear some details about it.

Bright light orange is my most favourite lego colour.

The car seems like it got shorter? It should be longer right?

You can make a similar scale 3D model with the 3D printer like you did with the Countach

Personally I like the look and colour, but I'm not really a car enthusiast so I'm not at all bothered about any inaccuracies. Internals are visually interesting, particularly the engine. Price is an issue though, but you could say that about a lot of Lego sets and this is from a premium sub-theme. I waited for the other 1:8 scale cars to go on sale so this won't be any different.

Excuse me, what is 14:23 on the control panel means for McLaren?

I was really hoping for the F1 GTR when i heard rumors they were planning to go for older cars for the new technic 1/8 scale but this is still awesome, Its finally something different (one the inside) which i find much more worth buying over the Daytona. It would also be really cool if lego releases the f1 gtr as a icons set though, I can't be the only one who thinks that

Best supercar from LEGO since the Porsche but the price is totally sick. Could you make a comparison with the cada amg f1

When can we expect a video showing the differences between building this building versus Daytona?
@RacingBrick4 ай бұрын
What exact differences are you looking for? I have detailed reviews about both showing the building process, if you watch them then you should have a pretty good picture about these

Hey there. What kind of shelf do you use to store your Lego sets? Is it an Ikea shelf?
@RacingBrick2 ай бұрын
Yes, it's a BILLY shelf. I have a video about it on the channel, you can find it if you search for IKEA.

Shape looks accurate enough. Would get it if I was a fan of the P1. I agree, weird choice for the McLaren model to go with.

its probably too late to suggest this now but i would like to see how the suspension of the lamborghini survived these 4 years and the ferrari for the 2 years since you said in the lamborghini review that the suspension might get worse over the years

Is it more complicated than the older 1:8 technic sets?
