I was only Asian in my USMC infantry battalion back in early 90s. I was called north Korean and they made fun of my last name etc. Racism in military is real.

A nation founded on hate, opression, theft, rape, racism, salvery and and murder can not abandon the principles it was built on and still maintian power. Acccepting truth is a very hard thing to do because it requires letting the ego die which is very painful. I took me 44 years of lying to myself before I accepted what I had witnessed my entire life as reality.

Sir I really appreciate this, step up and take charge. I’ve been a victim of this in the army as well. They make it seem like it’s not racially motivated but in our eyes it is. I’m currently with a all black unit right now and we get treated definitely than other units.

It just shows how everyone wants to be in that leadership mindset and be in charge of what people do and help, but on topics that involves racism in 2020. I’ve seen a lot of battle buddies act like it doesn’t exist or don’t want to about it, I appreciate you talking about this subject matter ❤️✊🏾

I can identify with you on this blog. I was a Naval Officer- Medical Corp. At the time of recruitment I was told there were only 2 African Americans recruited that year into the Officer Medical Corp program. I couldn't believe it until I went to the Indoctrination School and discovered I was the only African American Medical Corp officer to be recruited there. I was the only African American Officer (Student) in my platoon - and at the school at the time. The Naval Chief that was training us at the time, did his best to get me kicked out. I overheard him say, " doesn't want to be here". He had no reasonable reason for saying this. He targeted me. I took accepted it initially as a form of training until I discovered that most of his target was one-sided, unequal and unfair. I went to the legal counsel on the Indoctrination School Campus - in Rhode Island and made a formal complaint. Throughout my Naval Career, I have had to familiarize myself with the EEO policies and when "enough was enough" utilize those policies. I am sorry to say, the subtle racism that exists in the Navy and the EEO policies provided are just "procedural". They had no interest in actually defending injustices during my active duty time. It was just a Bureaucratic Face placed. So most African Americans just stood by and kept their mouths shut. They accepted the affronts and tolerated the racism hoping that if they anneal themselves with a Caucasion counterpart, they would be protected against continued assaults. Unfortunately, it is no different in the civilian world except you have a better opportunity to get an attorney to defend you if it occurs. My advice, know who you are and how much your character is willing to take. Know your military guidelines, standards of engagement and determine when it is time to proceed through the ranks. Don't expect to get justice from it. Don't expect to be liked. Expect to develop enemies but before you do this, be ready to have an exit strategy. In the end, racists will never win. They are broken people whose self destruction wants company. Do not allow them to accomplish that goal.

I wish there were balance weight where all the ways youve been loved and treated well by your country and its people could be weighed against the minuscule amount of times a few people have been jerks for any reason (race included). My bet is, from watching a few of your videos, that youve been loved, cared for, and lived a very privileged American life which continues to this day. Most peoples problems come from their own bad choices or the bad choices around them. We are incredibly blessed in this country and we (myself included) are too spoiled to even take notice 90% of the time.

They need to start implementing the EO program like they do SHARP in ROTC. I know we didn’t do it when I was there and it showed. I’d have to mentor my young cadets and tell them what they may experience and I hated giving those speeches.

Thank you for sharing, I know racism does exist, it happens everywhere. But I wouldn't say it is a major issue like people think it is. In the military, people make bad unfunny jokes all the time and people have to live with that kind of dark humor. I just do not understand why if it is a joke that targets a race, why it is a massive problem that needs to be talked about besides basic personal jokes to an individual because it directly refers to them, which is perfectly fine and just the nature of dark humor. But instead when it doesn't refer to someone, but instead an ethnicity or race, as to why it is a problem and immediately makes it a severe joke that shouldn't ever happen. Just my thoughts on this whole situation, of course I wasn't there and know nothing about that situation, but to me it just seems like he is one of those people that says any joke that comes to mind, and isn't intentionally attempting to harass or shame your race. Just my thoughts. Thank you for your service!

Sir I don’t think I’m a racist but I disagree with you, the military is a tough place and stuff happens and people say stupid stuff. It’s not uncommon for some guy to say stupid stuff and maybe it was taken out of context, there are people out there who say stupid stuff and think it’s funny when it clearly is not. So he was either racist or just made a really bad joke and it was taken the wrong way. But either way the military is not racist nor is our country racist, our country simply has an issue where both the police forces of our country and the rioters across the nation are doing bad stuff and both sides are wrong. The rioters are wrong for vandalizing businesses and stealing stuff as well as many other things, the police forces are wrong because there are a lot of bad cops out there who are as bad as the people they are paid to protect us from. Personally I don’t see this as a race thing I see it as right against wrong, I think we are all Americans and we are all humans of equal value. God created us all differently but overall we are the same and we are all Americans and humans, we shouldn’t treat each other bad or judge others for their skin color or something else. I think that the race card is played all the time by the big media like CNN, MSNBC and other news organizations and honestly it does nothing but hurt everyone in the end, because in the end we are more divided then we are united as a country. Just wanted to share my opinion but Thankyou for your service.
@Jabarikjay

thank you for sharing yours. The military in itself isn’t racist at all, it’s a few bad seeds within our organization that messes things up. I pray things get better in the US.

Edit: You are misguided! I’ve witnessed this discrimination. You can’t tell me there isn’t racism in the military. They just not as bold as they would be if they were civilians. There are certain things you shouldn’t do or say. Maybe he didn’t mean anything of it, but that’s why we are doing this movement in our country right now it’s to make it aware. So this shit can stop in the future.
