I am trying to remove the rails for my IBM x346. It looks like they are the same rails as seen in the video. However I am not able to remove the rails. I try to push outward the latch and then push the other latch back but no way. They do not move the slide rail pins at all. Any idea?
@andreaspfeiffer90335 жыл бұрын
Just got it! For those who struggle the same problem. Take a screwdriver and use it as a leverage to move the first latch backwards while pressing the 2nd latch. Be careful not to heart yourself.

What are you going to do when both racks is full? Do you get third rack cabinet or get rid of oldest servers? :D
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi Kompp a It really is a scary thought that I will soon run out of space,, I have to sell some of the oldest... :-/ There is not really room for more rackes and I have neither power or cooling for more. Thank you for watching! :-)

Hey I'm planning to buy IBM x346 for 120$ any recommendation on what to look out for and check before buying one. I'm kind of new to servers and need advice. Also would love an episode on how to buy second hand servers what to look for for newbies....

HI Do not get the x346,, it is really a little to old to be really fun,, Get an x3650 M1 (7979) but be sure to get one with the Intel Xeon 54xx series CPU. And some times you can get these for the same price. Thank you for watching! :-)

Another great video Morten! Say, have you any experience with the Citrix access gateway AG 2010 SYC-515MU? I've picked up 5 of these on eBay for $22.50-60.00 each. They are a nice little 1U computer. Supermicro PDSMU mobo, can use a X3230 QC processor/w HT and up to 8GB ram. You can add the AOC-SIMSO IPMI card for out of band management. Dual Intel gigbit nics. Intel ICH7R SATA controller with support for RAID 0,1,5,and 10. I have 3 of these running my pfSense router, PBX server and WMC. They really work nice. I added a cheap 1x PCIe video card to another one I'm using to play around with windows 10. Great bang for the buck. Its no mighty IBM x3650, but still pretty decent. Thanks for all the great videos! Thumbs up for you sir!! eric

Hi epd807 Good value for toys in that caliber,,, umm what is PBX and WMC,, short for what? And is that not, something you should have virtualized. Thank you for watching! :-)
@epd8079 жыл бұрын
Hi Morten PBX= Private Branch eXchange, this runs my voip phone system for my house. WMC= Windows Media Center takes care of all my family's media needs; music, pictures, movies, video, television, dvr etc. Yes, I should have virtualized all of it...but I discovered your great videos too late! I've had this set up for many years. I still cant quite get my head around how to run all this stuff on a virtual machine. So....until you make a video called "virtualization for dummies (like me)" I'll have to make do! ;o) Thanks again for all your videos, I really enjoy and learn from them! eric My PlayHouse

Hi Eric aka, epd807 Thanks for the explanation. I have never played with eXchange,, i gave up on running my own mail server back at my Novell Netware days. I do have a Media Center, but i run XBMC,, from a Synology NAS,,, and i realy do not use it very mutch,, i use to mutch time editing videos,,i will cut back a littel bit i think. Virtualization for dummies,, good titel :-) Thank you for watching! :-)

Hi Morten The pbx is actually for running my telephone system at my house. I just use the email accounts provided by my ISP. I toyed with the idea of setting up a mail server and then read how many problems you could have with it, so I gave up the idea. Im interested in XBMC (Kodi now?) as I use Silicon Dust tuners for my television/cable, and they have a kickstarter project for a dvr contraption. Anxiously awaiting VFD (Virtualization for dummies) ;o) Thanks Morten! ericMy PlayHouse

you just earned a subscriber. great video, i have the x series 345 which is quite similar. on my server instead of having to press f12 to select what to boot from. it says to boot from a network. i am not sure how to boot from a cd on it. would you have any suggestions?
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын

Interesting that on ebay the eServer X336 model goes for around $200 to $500 on ebay, yet being this useless and old. It seems more like the minimum limit for any server no matter what it is on ebay, is like $200 in general. This of course does not include shipping costs. But in comparision you can find a IBM x3650 M2 (less than 8gb ram included) for similar price which is marginally better.
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi funkynicco Yes, for heaven's sake buy a 3650 M1/2 with a quat cores instead,, 10 times more power for the same money. You are probably right in terms of shipping costs,, but also just the problems of packing such a big thing.... Thank you for watching! :-)

I love it! You said that you had some errors with win server 2008(NOT R2) can you explain that a little bit more? ''But it is realy slow,,, see next video,,,i did install 2008r2, but i only got 1 GB of ram in it :-/'' and: ''Ups I exaggerated just a little bit, it seems that it was only Server 2008 64bit,, not R2 Thank you for watching! :-)'' ? If that is usable information that I can use that will be great because I dont have one to test things on... all 8 100% 24/7 running Already thanks
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi diamondcraftia I thought that I had installed server 2008R2 but when I edited the video, I could see that it was not "R2" version. The only 1Gb of RAM probably makes it a bit slow. Thank you for watching! :-)
