It has distemper. Its like rabies for animals except humans cant get it and the animal dosent foam at the mouth. If i did then it would be rabies.

Coons out during the day could also have babies to feed

Please stop perpetuating this myth. Raccoons that are out during the day are often getting food for their infants or moving their infants from one nest to the other. Do a little research "Raccoons are usually nocturnal and usually spend daylight hours at rest. Contrary to common belief, a raccoon active during the day is not necessarily sick. Sometimes to beat other animals to good food sources (like chips around a park picnic table), raccoons will be active during daylight." Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

This would be true if the raccoon wasn't tested positive for it.

Thank you so much Robbi Hoy! You said the truth! It really pisses me off, the myths spread about raccoons. There has never been a VALIDATED by lab work human death from raccoons in the U.S. period. There was a case of a man who died around 2015, but he was not in contact with a raccoon that they knew of, but the authorities decided he must have gotten scratched or something, by a raccoon. So they recorded it as rabies from a raccoon! It just goes on and on. I remember that huge cull in a city back East where they killed every raccoon in a neighborhood just because a few were wandering around "disoriented." Turned out that DFW had dropped rabies vaccination pellets in that area so they were likely having a vaccine reaction. Anyway, the Sheriff's Dept, came out to help kill the raccoons. Then all of the authorities left the carcasses behind to stink up the neighborhoods. It was a huge kill--in the hundreds. Now, if they were so concerned about an outbreak, why did they leave the bodies behind and not even respond when homeowners began to complain? Is this slander against wildlife to promote vaccination--and OVER vaccination--of pets? Over!

Thank you! It's because they are scared of us, but when they have the choice, they love the daylight. Same with many other animals, like ratties.

Dude stop spreading this crap about it being normal. daytime sightings in open areas is absolutely ABNORMAL, for a racoon. Even if they have to scavange during the day they will avoid open areas at all costs. If people take ur advice they are going to encounter rabid and distempered racoons and endanger themselves and those around them. 95% of the time a racoon actively out like this by itself in broad daylight in an open area is because of a disorder. If they found it in a dumpster or culvert, thats a different story

@@laurenscool1 I can read fine. Most raccoons out in the daytime are just hungry moms looking for something to eat so they can make milk for their kits. Also, if they know humans will provide food, they will come young and old. Raccoons are about as smart as a three year old human. Most cases of rabies come from dogs and bats. Raccoons can and do get sick with it, but they are in the minority. And they also don't 'carry' rabies, they either have it, or they don't. and if they have if, they normally quickly die. With both rabies and distemper (both feline and canine), they act very sick indeed. They can transmit about 12-24 hours before they start actively dying and displaying symptoms. Humans can't get distemper, but can get rabies. So, If any animal is acting weird, don't go by them. Do not push a wild (or feral) animal into a situation where they feel trapped, because they will go after you. Leave wild animals alone. This isn't Disney, touching a wild animal is stupid.

@@PhantomQueenOneraccoons have survival instincts such as any other species. the first obvious sign of distemper is a lack of those instincts. they almost seem trusting of humans although the truth is they severely lack motor skills and normal brain signals this why it’s not even a challenge to catch them. pls don’t spread misinformation. i’m also sick of seeing ppl say racoons with distemper have “rabies”. rabies does not cause a serious lack of motor function. Rabies does make them act in a way they usually wouldn’t but now like this. A mama raccoon wouldn’t just struggle to walk around with humans sticking shit in her face when she has babies to take care of. She would’ve ran. Yes, in this context, the video clearly shows the poor baby was suffering from distemper.
