Keep in mind that all depends on the degrees of the hill climb, the weight of the rider, and the type and weight of the gear you want to take with you. Remember that you might be adding additional weight, like the front basket and rear basket. And if you are going to tow something like a for taking your pet(s), that will also add weight and resistance, especially trying to go uphill. So, research this bike to make sure that you'll be able to make the grade so to speak.

72 yr old female. I have thought about this type of bike for awhile. You keep saying the word options. If I pay $2500 for a bike I want my baskets, because this would be my shopping cart. Once you showed the back rack I am done. See plenty of complete bikes that are not so expensive. I live on SS and am not looking for an endurance expensive bike. I am looking for a car replacement. Thanks for info. 😮

Steering is actually different enough that experienced riders should work up to higher speeds. Delta trikes require opposite steering to upright bikes which countersteer at speed like a motorcycle. This is advice from a bike instructor who has watched newbies almost crash his delta when they first try it. With a delta you steer it like a car, instead of instigating a lean by steering away from the direction you want to turn. This is all unconscious, which is why you need to let yourself gain some muscle memory and train a bit so you don't accidentally turn into a curb or car when you are in an emergency. Not necessary for a non-cyclist.

Good review. Many people have been asking for a Rad Trike for a while. Glad they finally released one. Quick tip for you...I would NOT recommend riding with the keys still in the battery for several reasons (they can vibrate out and get lost, they can be broken off and stick in the lock, and why make it easy for crooks to get keys to your bike!) ;-)

Great test review. This is the sort of weather that I have to deal with for about 6 mths of the year. Even though a trike is not my cup of tea, I like this one. I can totally see it being a grocery getter or a car replacement in small communities. Another use would be for city deliveries, and with a quick release system for that rear cargo area, delivery companies can load up a cargo box and just slip it on. No risk of falling flat on ice patches or snow (like I've done!), but I'd prefer tires with better traction. The battery is barely adequate at best, and I'm wondering if my original 14Ah RadMini battery is interchangeable with this one. The coaster brake may seem odd, but it is logical for a bike that literally splits in half. Thanks for the video!

This trike would be a very bad thing to use for deliveries. It's to slow and wide and thus car drivers will hate you. With that battery you would not be able to work for long. I use my ebike for food deliveries and I would never use something like this.

Nice bike! I like to share ideas with people, and have some to share with you. First is the cargo mounting system. It could be modified with an aluminum plate that has a slide in locking system, with one leaver clamping. The Platte can have a trainer hitch hole. With brackets and extra batteries for back ups. Ever a solar charging system with a couple 12 volt solar plannels. The company could add extra brackets for adding on other equipment. Of course some of these ideas are for people who like to go touring longer distances, but can't ride a normal bike.

Reverse is cool,I find it impossible to move my Lectric Trike backwards. Right. I'm impressed by the front hub motor like cheap bike kits have. Who needs proper rear wheel drive WITH A DIFFERENTIAL. I'm impressed by the mechanical front disk brake and particularly impressed by the rear coaster brake like bikes I had when I was a kid 60 years ago, brings back fond memories like my Weejuns and our crank telephone. And I love that you can choose from a number of options to make it the semi-usable bike you want. And who needs a speedometer anyway. Love that the handlebars fold down, makes me wish that the frame folded too. But I guess that's not technically possible. I also LOVE that they just reduced the price from $2499 to $1299. I'm sure that all those folks who paid that extra $1500 dollars for it a few days ago will be getting rebates to make that up. Yep.

I saw the unboxing video earlier today and was looking forward to the review. It's a good bike although gears might have been nice. Not sure though as trikes can be a little bit unstable if turning quickly while at speed. Overall I like it although I won't be buying one as I have no need for a trike. At least not yet. I'm only 68 so I hope I have many years ahead of me with my RW4.

No motor disconnect on either front disc or rear coaster brake--maybe I missed your mention. If not that's dangerous IMO. And coaster brake on just one rear wheel is also dangerous when that one wheel locks-up on hard braking. This is a heavy bike, a rear disc brake should be minimum for safety. Finally, no rear basket either at this pricepoint is lame. What are they thinking?

This would be nearly impossible to haul up several flights of stairs if you live in an apartment. And there's no way I would leave this outside due to theft and/or weather damage. The smaller tire size is also very problematic when it comes to finding compatible puncture prevention. For example, the Tannus Armour kit doesn't fit tires this small. Nor could I find Schwalbe Marathon tires in this size (which are among the best for preventing flats). The only thing I like about this design is the motor is on the front wheel. This should really be the standard. Most of the weight is on the rear wheel which is why 99.99% of the time only the rear wheel gets punctures, because of all the weight (rider weight, motor weight, carrying extra weight from groceries, etc.) pressing down on the tire which pushes sharp objects through.

I Strongly caution people to not buy an E-trike. Here's why... I'd like to preface this by saying I have no ill will towards you guys or your channel, but I feel you, your viewers, and anyone looking at e-trikes need to know that they are all overpriced and often predatory for the intended consumer. A small retailer usually pays a factory in China around $1400-1800 per e-trike. That's after factoring in the bulk shipping and accessories that come standard. As an individual consumer you can find them for around $1600-2000 direct from China. Again, WITH accessories like a front and rear rack and in some cases weatherproof storage, PLUS they come mostly assembled (unlike the RAD seen here). This model/build looks marked up even more than is typical. The lack of pre-assembly for an e-trike (which saves them a TON of money), the lack of front and rear racks that should be standard, the small battery size, limited performance, lack of suspension, and the overall size… all of which tells me this is worth nowhere near $2500-$2,726. You do get some support with RAD and the frame is slightly unique compared to most, but I don’t see that justifying the cost. I also imagine these cost RAD the minimum of what I've seen to import, if not less. The whole e-trike market makes me sad, but this one in particular makes me extra sad. The worst thing about e-trikes outside of the pricing is that the people who are often the target consumer are elderly or disabled. Not all of them, but most. A group of people all too often taken advantage of in the first place. Especially the elderly. Most of them do not end up using the trikes they buy for a whole host of reasons (size, convenience, weight, storage, transportation, safety, stability, rideability, accessibility, comfort, parking, etc) that could be summed up to: the reality of owning an e-trike does not meet the expectations retailers market you, as if they were ebikes. There IS a very small group of people out there who will love owning an e-trike. People who can and will use them daily in environments that are built to coincidentally accommodate them. But I have seen too many people get screwed over buying these things and feel the need to bring attention to it.

Of the 4 ebikes I have owned, the RadTrike is by far the most disappointing. I discovered a design flaw during my first ride. The clearance between the pedals and the frame is insuffient. In order to pedal without having the heal of my shoe contnually catching on the back frame, it is necessary that I peddle using my instep opposed to the ball of my foot. A significanf flaw in a bike lauded for being designed from the "ground up". I discovered the second flaw after a week of riding. The back chain sprocket assembly has a sprocket that, instead of being part of the bar attaching it to the bike, is a seperate, moveable part using a simple hex bolt to keep it in place using friction between the bolt and the bar. An absurd design given the bar is subject to continual vibration that loosens the bolt making it necessary to tighten it repeatedly to prevent the chain from coming off. A purchase I deeply regret.

60lb cargo capacity on the back is pathetic for a trike like this. So is the 10ah battery.

This idea that trikes are unstable is just nonsense......how is it less safe and less stable than a traditional 2-wheel bike? At this price-point I think RAD has a hit on their hands. First, e-bike are bringing biking back to millions....now, this entry-level priced e-trike will expand that to even more people.

Have you tried a motorcycle with a sidecar? These are as stable as that vs a 2 wheel motorcycle. Many will be injured and these will fall out of favor, so I'd get one now if you like them, because later, like 3 wheel ATVs that have been banned for years, these will very likely be history.

Lol goobfilmcast u have no idea what u are talking about.😀 regular bike leans. This doesn't. And that makes it easy to roll over. Especially in this high height and narrow track combination. It looks cool tho, in my opinion.. would use it around the village 200m up and down, if they send me one for free and make me promise i will not sell. 😂

For better ride it should work like Piaggio mp3, but then they would want 5000$ probably😁

@@lukazupie7220 Actually, I am a retired Special Needs Teacher and I am still active in the community overall. I know MANY kids (and adults) with neuromuscular and other balance issues that will benefit INCREDIBLY by having a bike like this. It will allow them to explore the outdoors and take bike rides with their families, experiencing a real independence that they don't get as a "passenger". Throttle and pedal-assist E-trikes are safer and more approachable for less able riders or those with motor skill deficits. I would love to see more kids who cannot ride on two wheels get a chance to explore the outdoors on a trike like this.

worst placement of a battery ever, it stops elderly people from mounting comfortably, everyone else mounted the battery behind the seat where it dont obstuct movement ! plus the fact they only have a 20 in front wheel where the rest are 24 in the front, yet ask the same price if not more

We think they put the motor there to make the assembly of the bike easier. The room to step over is larger then you would think. The camera makes things look a bit smaller sometimes. 😉

750W motor is not enough for a trike.

Why do you think that? Max speed is only 14 mph and it crushed the hill.

100% agree. At least it should have a 25A controller to achieve 1200W. With 3 years on a Rad Rover (which weighs much less than a trike) with a 750W motor and standard controller, hill climbing performance is rather poor. It took a Bolton/Area 13 1200W/25A upgrade to handle hills in my area.
