I love how in She-ra, Entrapta is treated terribly by the princesses (The good guys) with the leash and stuff then immediately goes to the horde (The bad guys) and everyone there goes “Wow she’s so smart” and gives her an entire lab and basically full control of their entire military system and she straight up tells the princesses “I was left behind and betrayed by you so I’m gonna stay with the horde they treat me nice” It actually happens quite often where people are straight up treated better by the bad guys and allowed to be who they want while the princesses treat people who aren’t like them terribly The horde themselves mock the princess and straight up tell them how stupid they are and the absolute powerhouse they lost for treating entrapta poorly

So my autistic trait is whenever some asks "Why?" I end up researching the answer indepth to the point where it is like "Why did Netflix cancel this show I like?" and my brain is like, "So it all started in the 1940s during the American Animators Strike..." but most people don't want the long answer so I have trained myself to give the short(er) answer. Basically streaming services like Netflix cancel a lot of animated shows after season 2 because they actually only are 'buying' 1 season of tv. They buy a 24 to 30 episode season of animation, tell the company making it to chop it in half to make 2 seasons for the price of one, and then when it comes time to renew the show for a 3rd season (technically 2nd) the studio would be able to demand more money so the streaming service just says, "Nope we will save money by not buying more." This can be seen in how shit shows somehow magically get season 2s greenlit the day they hit streaming. They already bought a 'second season' so it doesn't matter if anyone likes it, pump out the next 12 to 15 episodes and can it like you would a good show. Not to mention this compounds with the whole don't have to pay writers, actors, or directors royalties within X Number of days a show hits their platform clause that was invented when streaming first started. Basically because streaming was a new risky idea people were like, "You can put the show up and then after a certain number of days/weeks you begin paying us per views!" And Netflix went, "Sure thing!" *Puts entire show up in one day so the vast majority of people will speed through it before the 'pay your workers' timer goes off. So now you a streaming service are sitting there actually having to *vomits in mouth* pay your- *chokes on vomit deool* -pay your workers for every episode watched, ON TOP OF B U Y I N G NEW EPISODES?! "Eugh, just cancel the show we got the money we could out of it." Edit: I forgot that was supposed to be the short answer and got lost in the sauce as it were and even forgot what video I was commenting on... I GOT THAT DAWG IN ME!

As an autistic girl, I've learned to socialize and touch grass after being raised by the Internet by throwing myself at social opportunities for years. I don't think I behave like a normal person but I have managed to express myself in a way that lets me thrive in social environments. In fact, I'm a social butterfly today and people tell me I have an interesting and unique perspective on things. However, I still have problems trusting outsiders and I often feel like an alien with decent human social skills. This is random but I wrote a paper in my abnormal psychology class and convinced the teacher that the driver (Ryan Gosling) in Drive has autism based on the DSM-5.

I was one of those kids with undiagnosed autism. In school legit did not not know what to do with me as academically I was doing extremely well but my autistic struggles and frustrations were seen as nothing more as a distraction or "emotional disturbance." It's a label that I have to struggle with every day and dehumanizes me at times. I had a remote job that I was doing extremely well in because no one knew about me or my struggles. They just saw the results. Once that job turned into an in office job, I was fired within a month due to these struggles.

In She-Ra's defense, she was shown to have a habit of losing focus and running away throughout the entire series and is shown by her constantly escaping restraints and ignoring orders to not go somewhere. As an autistic person, I actually liked her a lot. That episode was actually one of the most relatable. It takes place in the final season, and it is when she releases all of her sentiments. She was tied up in order to be kept from escaping, but she was let go after she made everyone understand her intent (or she escaped. I can't remember).

While objectively an iffy portrayal at this point in time where autism representation is just getting better, I really related to the conflict between the flower girl and entrapta and adore entrapta as an autist myself. The leash would have been totally fine with me if Entrapta had the opportunity to be more aware of how not thinking of other people put them and herself in danger and they had a confrontation which made them come to solution that worked for everyone, which could have been the leash! Or even just having claw girl carry her while entrapta figures her own season finale stuff out

As an autistic person, I view the whole "Austistic people are super geniuses" as INCREADIBLY detrimental, mostly because that's not fucking true. I struggled to take in basic information during my education, and sometimes simple commands, which may sound simple to someone else, may not sound such to myself. Like I can take in whole fucking PARAGRAPHS of information when it comes to a topic I like, but just because I can explain the entire plot and backstory to my favourite RPG, does not make me a fucking GOD at maths. Edit: I will also mention that I was given no guidance on what my condition meant, or barely any help. But I do understand that my condition is only a single case in a sea of different variables.

I won't publicly claim whether or not I have autism but I will say this Autistic people can either have extremely powerful brains, be dumb as a brick, or be absolutely average. Autism is just an outlier. It's just something that happens, like having one extra or one less chicken nugget in a 100-piece box of nuggets. People need to stop generalizing autism as either a strength or a weakness, because it's neither of those.

As someone on the spectrum, you highlighted one of my biggest gripes with media representing Autism. I am high functioning (which basically means that I have Autism but other people couldn't tell unless I told them). I am a normal human being who has normal struggles on top of functioning differently but media often paints people with autism as wholly unique or on the far and of a SPECTRUM. Media rarely ever portrays people who are high functioning, so you highlighting 2 examples was nice!

Same here, I'm like slightly smarter, but not by much. I can retain information, but I still struggle with doing certain things. For example, I can't do fractions & percentages, but any basic math I can do really well & fast. But I can tell you the whole history of a video game from conception to completion, the legacy of it, & some facts about it because video games are 1 of my hyperfixations. I also just like learning stuff in general as well. Like, I didn't know Reagan from Inside Job was considered autistic until this video. @wikijippo4719 I was diagnosed when I was little, i think at the age of 6. I'm high functioning. Also, just because someone doesn't want to hug doesn't make them autistic because I actually like giving hugs, but i can't handle huge crowds mostly cause of my audio issues. Also, hyperfixation is different than being "just a nerd." Most autistic people's hyperfixations could be keys (me because of kingdom hearts), wearable crosses (also me because it was the only comfort during difficult times as a kid), tanks (my grandfather that everyone in my mom's family has concluded was undiagnosed since he had almost all of the "main" signs), wars (same grandfather & a high functioning family friend) & trains (a high functioning cousin of mine loves Thomas the tank engine.) It's called a spectrum nowadays for a reason. No autistic person is the same as another.
@arkdetective
@arkdetective Жыл бұрын
@wikijippo4719 I was 6. It was a behavioral doctor who diagnosed me, iirc. I'm 32 now, so the details fail me at the moment. I know for sure I was diagnosed as "deafly retarded" originally at 3, because they assumed I was deaf since I didn't respond to them a lot, though that was because there were, to my young mind, better things to do (mainly making very complex situations with Playmobil stuff for a 3 year old). That's how early I was diagnosed that you could say it was during that 1st decade of them realizing that autism was more around than they originally thought during the late 80s to late 90s. It was a big old wild west of mental science then.
@arkdetective
@arkdetective Жыл бұрын
@wikijippo4719 it depends. A lot of autistic tendencies are behavioral, but most of it goes toward something mental as the root. Like, I pace a lot, but that's because it helps me process my thoughts better through movement, & I walk on my tiptoes a lot, but it is because it just feels right to do in the given circumstances, or the same reason as to why I pace. I tend to wander from people i'm with, but that's because something grabbed my attention & i needed to investigate before moving on, but i forget to tell the group at times because i get so intrigued by whatever it or the thought process was that the step, "alert the group of intent" is skipped entirely or forgotten. Certain textures make me feel terrible, like peanut butter underwater when I'm washing dishes & certain smells make me feel like I'm dying inside, like when my dad makes Cincinnati Chilli. I try to not go to certain places at certain times for 1 reason or another, like a restaurant i like near where I live has live music on Thursdays, but during the summer, the music is played at their section that they enclose during the winter & spring, which causes an echo effect that drives the audio condition of my autism to activate & cause pain in my head, so I try to avoid going there on Thursday during most of the year because I actually enjoy it when it's by the main entrance across from the bar the rest of the year since that doesn't cause the echo & I enjoy music in general because I love creative people as not only do I enjoy their process but I'm one myself (I want to make video games someday.) However, there are still other problems with doctors & actually diagnosing autism correctly, mostly with girls & women. There's a lot of women, some who I know, who have been diagnosed with behavioral conditions like autism & adhd in their 30s because there's still a stigma that all of those are "male" conditions, which isn't true in the slightest & has only been "accepted" to allow them in the last couple of years. Like, there was literally a medical book for autism being used by doctors up to 5-ish years ago from either the 80s or the 90s that said only "white, young males" could have autism, during a time that people thought the condition went away or they "grew out of it", not realizing that what was actually happening was a thing the autistic community calls "masking," where they put on a "mask" to appear "normal" when they interact with people, which of course strains the mind for the autistic person, because some autistic tendencies, like being unable to look at people's eyes for example, are also considered traits of a liar or someone who wants to take advantage of someone else, when it's either a part of their identity (close ups of eyes have always freaked me out, resident evil 2's ps1 cover & the 1st grudge movie cover & poster come immediately to mind), or they're really shy (also me to a degree, not as much as i used to be, though). There's also the fact that autistic people, myself included, are very honest to a fault (another trait of someone who supposedly wants to take advantage of someone else), & studies have shown that more autistic people feel horrible about lying than a "normal" person, to the point of a single lie they made ruining the whole day mentally, even if it wasn't their fault that it was a lie, which I feel that as well. All of this is compounded if you're autistic & you're not white because, unfortunately, racism & racial profiling still exist in this world. You essentially have to act as someone else just to survive if you're autistic sometimes, unfortunately.

Entrapta is shown throughout the entire series to have no self-preservation instinct when she is distracted by the anchient civilization technology and it simply came to a head in that episode as she was wandering off in the middle of a warzone while trying to complete her objective. She and the rest of the characters have to learn to communicate with each other to get things done productively. As a person who has high functioning autism and is a fan of She-Ra, his use of Entrapra as a bad example incredibly frustrated me, for the reasons that this thread has mentioned. It especially frustrates me that he knowingly said that he has never even watched the series, which means he has no context to both her as a character, her relationships with the other characters on screen, and the ultimate conclusion of this episode. He probably just found this clip on Netflix KZbin channel, saw the leash being used, and immediately use that clip due to the way that the scene looked like and to make the argument that everybody agrees on that people with autism shouldn’t be treated like that. But again context is King. It’s very frustrating that he didn’t bother to at the very least track down that particular episode and watch it in it’s entirety, that way he would’ve had the context. It just comes across as very lazy and inconsiderate to the fans of the series, while self admitting that he’s never seen the series or that particular episode.

Rad Chad usually means well, but I have to agree with this thread. If he had at least talked to someone who had actually seen the show, he would have known what Entrapta went through as a character. The whole rope thing wasn't a detriment on her, it was on her friends who should have treated her better, not to mention how differently she's treated once she joins Hordak also plays a huge role. Granted, there are a couple of episodes that I think drop the ball a bit, but overall she's a very deeply developed character by the end.

@@Santisima_Trinidad The problem with that idea is that if you don't have villainous representation, it creates the idea that being autistic (or whatever other minority) can't be villainous. And while that's a positive stereotype, it's still, at the end of the day, a stereotype. Representation isn't just about making minorities look good, it's about showing that they are equal. And that includes being equally likely for evil. Now, there are some people who are gonna take it the wrong way anyway, like the people who called Hirohiko Araki (mangaka of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) because 1 of his 7 main villains was black (the other 6 including 3 white men, 2 Japanese men, and 1 non-human). As a very high functioning AuDHD person, (I have two DAWGS in me, ADHD and Autism, and both have no idea what they're doing.) the more this went on, the more I enjoyed. I love how you talked about autism as a superpower because it's kinda what happened to me. In school, I loved science, math, physics, and all that kinda stuff, so I enjoyed doing it, and did it well because I would actually study and learn about it. Thus making me a "gifted child" and having very unrealistic expectations placed on me was... not great to say the least. It made me not like doing school, and because I didn't like school anymore, I started to stumble a bit. Socially I was a mess, but that's another thing. I still had this expectations on me to perform well, and even if my family said that it's fine if I didn't, they were already ingrained into me, which leads into frustrations about me not exceeding expectations. Hated myself for not being the best or messing something up at all, even if it was something little. If it didn't go to plan, it was bad. The more the video went on with the examples you gave, the more I related to the characters, especially with Asa, and honestly, you did a great job talking about this subject. Much love to you. And that's how I became a burnout transfem with an engineering degree. I think I got lost talking somewhere?

I am astounded at how well that feeling of frustration was put. I am a bad planner with schoolwork, but when I stand by a group of people I wish to talk to I take a moment to rewrite my starting sentence two or three times before I am satisfied with how I want to jump into a conversation. The feeling I feel when what I said wasn’t timed well enough or when no one heard/acknowledged what I said after I took 10 seconds to formulate what I want to say is a surprising amount of frustration. What this video also showed me was that women experience autism in a similar way men do. In primary school there were about five people who were on the spectrum or had ADHD or ADD (thank whatever there is to thank I had so many friends who understood and helped me, whilst I could return the favor). I have gained a sort of extra sense for spotting people who are on a similar “wavelength” as I am and getting on with them. At work (filling shelves in a grocery store) I had this quite often where the moment we spoke we both knew we each had “that dawg” in each other and shared our experiences. It is pleasant. However I have never really met a girl where I have “sensed” or noticed that they’re on the spectrum (This isn’t helped that the very same school class I’ve mentioned earlier had 21 boys and 6 to 7 girls and we were the weird kids). Seeing (good) representation of a woman undergoing these similar struggles is a first for me. Not that I thought it didn’t exist for them, but that I haven’t seen it noticed it before as far as I can remember. This was a long comment. I Hope that someone enjoys the read.

Sea anemones are relatives of the jellyfish. They have these tiny hairs growing on them that they use to feed by stunning fish, shrimp, zooplankton, and so on. But they can survive for years without food. They're like jellyfish in thath way. There are even sea anemones that have lived longer than 70 years with the proper care. They're found all troughout the world's oceans, and they can slowly moce too. There are also fish that live inside them called anemonefish. The sea anemones protect them from predators and share their food scraps. In tropical waters, sea anemones latch on to coral reefs or rocks. Starfish are echinoderms and relatives of the sea urchin. There are as many as 2,000 starfish species around the world. Not all of them are star-shaped either. There's even a species with 30 arms. When they get attacked by a predator, they'll rip off their own arm to get away while the predator eats it. Their arms can regenerate, so I guess they regrow later. Starfish can eat almost anything in the ocean. They feed by pushing their stomach out og their mouth and directly digesting their prey. Fun fact, there's an area in Kumamoto Prefecture where they eat starfish. As you'd expect from a relative of the sea urchin, you strip the skin to eat the insides, like with sea urchins. Even in other languages, starfish mostly have star-related names. For instance, in France they're called...

Another good example which wasn't mentioned but I personally liked is Futaba Sakura from Persona 5. Sure, she isn't the main character but we get to see her thought process by literally going inside her mind. We see how easy she is influenced by the faked note, we see her quirks in her confidant and most of her interactions like talking too loud sometimes, her hyperfixation on tokusatsu and her having savant syndrome with computers (though this isn't treated like a super power as it is shown with the MASSIVE bags of trash in her room) and we get to see her relationship with her friends and our protagonist (personally went with the romance route, so I can personally say it is adorable and well done). She's a well done character and apparently one needed for a game talking about Japan's problems, like how autistic people are usually thought of as rude, egotistical or other things due to some of their quirks.

@wikijippo4719, true, but she can have that and also be autistic. Reagan from Inside Job is extremely uncomfortable with being hugged in story because her father made a massive robot bear to hug her instead of doing it himself (he's an ass) but she also shows signs of autism as well. She could have it as a package deal, or she could just have the agoraphobia and trauma, but either way works.

The part about "curing" is interesting. It really depends on the condition. Autism is not something that can be "cured", that is absolutely true. Although, suppose if we hypothetically could do that. I think the bottomline here is to simply treat people appropriately and with a basic respect.

I wish autistic/autism coded wasnt the only representation we had. Never have i ever heard someone say “im autistic” or “They’re autistic.” In any media ever. (Offical media anyway.) Dont get me wrong, i understand show dont tell. But i really want People, especially if its a kids Cartoon, to specify that They’re autistic. Because as a kid, i had no clue what autism was when i was a kid. And the only information i Got was “oh, its like a superpower.” Or “Your Brain is just wired differently.” And it just made me feel worse since i had no Clue what it actually was. And because i, a kid, did not know any symptoms of autism, i just couldnt see the autism coding in any character’s. Show dont tell is great, i know, im a writer. But sometimes you just need to tell People instead of giving us hints in Their character’s. Because autism is Also a spectrum, meaning that the symptoms and traits they have Can be seen as just Their personality and not Their autism. I agree that writers should write it as a Character that happens to be autistic, and not just an autistic person. You Can still explicitly tell us that They’re autistic and just have that be a part of Them but not Their whole.

Great video, it brings up so much about what it's like living with autism. Talking about the part where autism is some kind of super power, it most definitely is not. For myself, I've found that I can catch on really quickly to different things I try, often times much faster than most people. But with that side of the coin, there's also the fact that I often times miss Social ques, and I can't always understand how someone feels. Most notably though, there's a general sense of me not being able to easily express my own emotions. At least not clearly. I've found that I often times come off as rude, and it even comes down to he I feel like I'm not being true to myself about how I feel. Actually, talking about that flaw, and the issues I have with expressing and understanding my own emotions, it's lead to me finding some of my favorite games and shows. Almost all of my favorite forms of media are focused around amazing stories that invoke so many different feelings when you're watching/playing them. It's because of that I'm able to in a sense, actually feel something. It's frankly reached a point where if I begin thinking about any one of them, I'll spend hours at a time thinking about every small detail and remembering what I love about it. I'd give examples, but admittedly every example I have really have ends up being a massive spoiler for said story. Oh yeah, and a bit of a side note, talking about the frustration. I play a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh, and for a long time I would end up frustrated because I made my deck perfectly, and in theory if what I plan to do pans out, then I should never lose. To say the least, I never thought about what would have to be done in situations where I couldn't what I wanted to do. Anyways, I've gotten better about that, and my testing focuses a lot more on any potential issues that my arise from my opponent trying to stop me, or having a plan if I draw a bad hand.

My main issue with the representation of Autism in media is it's usually the sole and only trait a character has and 9 times out of 10 it's the exact same portrayal: socially inept, the number one genius of a certain topic, easily overwhelmed by surrounding environment, speaking difficulties, etc. Did these people just forget that, oh I don't know, it's called autistic SPECTRUM disorder?! Many of us have those qualities, yes, but they vary in intensity and yet in media it's always portrayed as being as intense as possible and usually ignore a solid 50% of the possible traits that autistic people can have, probably because they care more about making it obvious to the audience for "representation" rather than making it authentic. I've reached a point where I just want to see an autistic character where the autism ISN'T they sole personality trait and is actually something that isn't made obvious. We aren't all geniuses, we aren't all affected by what is effectively the equivalent down syndrome, many of us are probably more "normal" than non-autistic people. God I've been wanting to say this for so long.

Her name is Entrapta, as in Entrap. leashing is one of her many kinks. She's the second smartest character in the entire universe. The reason she was put on the leash in the first place is because she's not great at multitasking. She is super task oriented, so she will disappear for hours on end, doing that one task. In the scene you used, she was trying to get a signal that would let her save a captured friend. Had she not been put on the leash, she would have ran head first into a wall, robot, or anything in her way. I also don't think she's autistic. another character i like to consider as autistic rep is ramlethal, i get she’s a robot and all that but i really find her journey into realizing she has emotions and that humanity is worth saving and being a part of very resonant to me as an autistic person who struggles with depression and alienation from neurotypical people. honestly, pre-burger and dog ram *is* depressed, she has a goal to destroy humanity and most likely herself in the process, it’s a suicide mission. her mother made her as a tool and because of that she feels like she’s completely different from others and that she only exists to kill them all. she thinks she doesn’t have “emotions,” or at least she doesn’t display them at the start, and she struggles with doing social things correctly (her funny evil smile is an example). eventually she learns that she has value as a person and that humanity’s pretty great, which i interpret as an allegory for an autistic person who’s been beaten down by maybe their family or society at large for being different realizing that they might be different, (ram talks about being “unique” a lot) but that they’re a person too. idk, a lot of her mannerisms and the way she talks and behaves scream autism to me. i love her very much and i think her character arc reflects an unexplored element of autism pretty interestingly, albeit probably unintentionally on daisuke’s part. cant give him TOO much credit.

My experience with my autism is kinda weird since I’m a jack of all trades perfectionist and if need to can temporarily be a ace of all trades in exchange for absolutely wasting myself. But theirs still a few subjects I’m completely hopeless in and any work I put in them to be better seems to disappear in a week or two. Which is very annoying to say the least. And whenever I see someone who also has autism or said to have autism mess up on something I go into a state of damage control, so I don’t do the same thing even if it makes no sense why I’ll do what that person did. Then I just have a period of overwhelming shame and doubt in my capabilities. Which explains why, in my experience, it’s so hard to write a character who intentionally comes off as having autism. Since getting it wrong can make others see you in a way you never intended. Because although their thankfully trying to get it, it’s one of those things you have to personally experience to truly understand. Probably say the best character who has autistic traits that I’ve seen is hank hill from king of the hill.

As a kid, I had the lowest grades and most ineffective management skills. I had specific talents. But every one of them I only became sufficient at because THE CORRECT PEOPLE WITH THE CORRECT KNOWLEDGE helped me to acquire those strengths. I was not the sharpest tool by my self!! I have since gone to prove, I could graduate through college. I now live on my own and pay my own bills. I’m a former explosive Hardware Assembler, who is now a Data Scientist currently training to be a Cybersecurity Analyst. As a hobby, I’m a rock instrumentalist of: Guitar, Bass and Keyboards (80’s shredder). I can also read and write music and do amazing works of art. NONE OF THESE TALENTS WERE GIFTED UNTO ME BY SOME SPECTRUM IN THE SKY; DESPITE BEING BORN AUTISTIC. I USED TO SUCK AT ALL OF THESE!! I HAD TO HAVE TIME TO BE BAD BEFORE I COULD GET GOOD. AND THE RIGHT PEOPLE ARE TOO THANK. IT IS OKAY….😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

As an autistic person who works for a psychologist and as part of a practise giving specialist advice for parents of autistic children on how to help their kids cope with living in our neurotypical-dominated world, I *am* in fact something of a subject matter expert on this; so I'm gonna take this opportunity to write out my thoughts and feedback on this video: -the tbh is an autistic icon and I love him very much -I would agree that kars is not what autism looks like. Instead, Kars is what the average non-binary person looks like (speaking as also an enby, he represents the fact that I am beyond mortal conceptions of gender perfectly) -Data was actually not written as autistic, to my knowledge! I read an anecdote about this in which his actor(?) said they didn't know autistic people were... really a thing back then, and he was actually very glad about that, because if they *had*, they would've written him completely differently, and - in his opinion - likely done a much worse job of it. Also, I think a lot of autistic people love Data; he's not actually very representative of how we behave, obviously, but the way he interacts with the rest of the world does evoke a lot of common experiences for a lot of us, I think. I at least certainly stan the boy -can confirm the dawg part; know a lot of autistic doggirls -I fucking love the chainsaw man girl (I forgot her name) the infodump scene with starfish is, and I am not exaggerating, the single best bit of special interest representation I've ever seen. people say she fumbled denji, but the truth is that denji fumbled her; any man who understood her true worth would've fallen for her on the spot -this is a bit of a tangent but, I actually hate your intro "rad chad ur dad" thing, because for tism reasons, stuff that rhymes gets stuck in my brain and gives me Horrendous Sensory™, so I always skip it. I'm sure other people like it though -re: the seeing autism as a problem thing: you nailed this part -fuck autism speaks I wish them a very many firebombs -re: entrapta: there is a meme I love where it's the definition of elopement, and it says: "Elopement is defined as leaving a specified area without permission and is common among individuals with autistic spectrum disorders." then it has the caption "autistics:" a picture of a tbh and then just in bold impact LEAVING at the bottom. I love that one so much; also this clip accurately depicts how we get treated when we try to commit LEAVING yes, smh oppression -For reference, there is currently a big movement in the autistic community to move away from the idea of describing autistic people as "functional" or "non functional", but it'd take me an essay to describe. The short of it is that it's a bad word because it derives from capitalistic ideas of productivity and equates that with worth and value as a human being -Autism is a superpower, didn't you know? It gives you MAXIMUM RIZZ as demonstrated once again via chainsaw man -"autistic people tend to do well academically" straight up false, drop out rates are enormous for us + usually the ones who succeed at academia end up with horrible mental health issues and frequently burn-out. It's like, yeah we can do a good job at it, but it comes at the cost of ruining our mental health quite often. not blaming you for thinking this though, it's a common myth -the predator thing is, yeah I think that speaks for itself -can't comment on reigan, not watched what she's from -spot on with the "when people say they're autistic they're usually caricatures" thing -also appreciate the pointing out that not all autistic people have the same traits. There's a saying that goes "If you've met one autistic person, you've met one autistic person." which was invented for this -ok no, that small talk joke confirms she's tismcoded; this seems like a good char to me -autism is when hank tells marie they're minerals and not rocks, unironically -yeah I don't want to be fixed by the government or doctors, the only kind of fixing I want is the kind where hot girls look at me and go "I can fix her" that kind is cool -THE SMELLY FEMCEL HERSELF god I love her so much -she is too good for dennis -yeah no she's absolutely on the spectrum. it is not physically possible to do the aquarium scene as a neurotypical. the option is greyed out -I don't necessarily agree that she doesn't love fish, it could be both? but generally yeah -Yeah okay so, the frustration point hits incredibly close to home. As I'm typing this, I just got done about an hour and a half ago with getting into a huge argument with a couple of discord mods (yes, the lowest form of life) which was basically summed up by them telling me my behaviour was unacceptable and that I was being rude and confrontational to people on the server, when from my perspective, I wasn't doing that at all. It's not quite the same as what happened here, but in general, for me at least, quite possibly *the* single most defining trait of life as an autistic person, is being told that your behaviour is wrong even when you know you haven't done anything wrong. It's literally endemic, has happened to me throughout my entire life, and is why I dropped out of school 3x and now only hang out in autistic communities for the most part. It's incredibly damaging and leads people to feel like they are defective, and can cause horrible guilt from the fact that, despite the fact from your perspective you're not doing anything wrong, everyone seems to hate you so much/to always end up not liking you. -the Statistical Majority Guy -testament my beloved "Autistic People Fuck" OKAY SO YOU KNOW WHAT'S REALLY FUNNY? Speaking as an autistic person who fucks, if you hang out in any kink communities, you will notice really fast that like, the prevalence of autism there, *is fucking sky high* compared to normal places. Yeah no seriously. Most of my friends are from there, and I think a solid 80% of them are autistic. I have written full length essays on this, and it is a real thing; autists unironically do be very good at the sex. The one caveat to this is, I think actually quite a lot of autistic people don't like vanilla sex, specifically; because it's too un-structured. This has lead to the very popular meme that "BDSM is just sex for autistic people," which isn't really a meme, it's just blatantly true (disclaimer: this entire point is one hell of a compression, I would need to do a full video essay to explain this adequately) -"What you say is totally boring, but you're interesting to watch." dennis you will not be forgiven for this slight (unironically, I know asa is fine with this, but this'd actually irk me quite a lot personally; when I infodump at someone, I want them to engage with it, at least a bit. I would have given dennis a slapping here, for to call that which I deign to infodump about boring is a sin indicative of the utter shitmost taste. but like it's denji so actually that's totally in character) Okay, finished the video! In conclusion, I think you handled everything really well there, for a self-professedly non-autistic person (I have my doubts that anyone who can make video essays does not have at least some of that dawg in them, but that's just me :P). Very good video over-all, and thank you a bunch from an autistic person for talking about this! As an also trans person, it's been heartwarming to see all the trans-positive stuff in media and white people video essays lately, but it does also suck that autism is just kind of on the back burner as far as societal issues go in comparison to that. Being autistic is to me at least as important as being trans. AS A BONUS: I will now be infodumping a list of my favourite autism reps in media and why -echidna re-zero; idk if she's autistic but she's a hot evil witch who hoards useless trivia and her entire arc from the anime is people trying to figure out whether she is incomprehensible to mortals. latter part in particular is highly relatable -phos houseki; this is also a bit of a reach, but the fact the rest of the gems don't like her even though she is portrayed as usually being right, is pretty relatable too -minato persona 3: this was literally me in high-school pre transition. like, 1:1. i was the depressed edgy high schooler who permanently had earphones in and wanted to die -RAQIO GNOSIA MY BELOVED: *THE* AUTISM CHARACTER, I love them so much. please play gnosia you won't regret it. It is a very niche little amogus-like where like 50% of the cast are either non-binary or Gender Beyond Your Comprehension, and raqio is the most literallyme character I have ever seen in any media

Me, personally as someone with ASD, I see Kasane Randall from Scarlet Nexus (a 2021 JRPG made by Bandi Namco) is a tasteful and good depiction of an autistic character. So much so that even as the tone of her's fits and thought processes and the way she cares for the other characters. Granted, I'm not entirely sure that Kasane is confirmed as a character with ASD or just coded ASD.

I knew I vibed a bunch with Reigan (from what I saw of the show), but at this point, [WHOO]. The planning part of the Asa segment hits hard btw. Like, I've grew up in an environment who was more vaforable for autistic people and see other autistic people on a semi-regular basis, so I'm not really craving autism rep, but it's still dope to see that there's at least people who try so much. Head-cannons lie Jotaro are cool and all, but sometimes people just want *"da real deal"* like Abed or Reigan.

Dude, as an autistic person, you have no idea of the smile in my eyes when I read the first good autistic representation I've ever seen. Renarin from the Stormlight Archive, he's not treated like a complete burden to his family, nor is he treated like a super genious, he's just an avarage dood... well, aside from being a memeber of a royal family, but the way he was described in one scene just rung all the alarms in my head, I didn't even consider the possibility of him being on the spectrum before that chapter. The chapter was describing how guards viewed him, and thought he had no emotions due to his tendency to "stare at nothing" (something I do), when in reality he's just preocupied, his mind is wandering a bit (again something I frequently do). The chapter also talks about how he has self-esteem issues, how he seems himself as weak, (which you know, society tends to kinda shame us for being different.) etc. But again, with respect, his father literally tells him to not think of himself like that, he clearly shows love for him and all. But then I wondered, naaah, he's probably just autistic coded.... untill I googled it and saw the author Brandon Sanderson directly confirming that he's autistic. So yeah, I was overjoyed, and he's just a minor character, he barely shows up in the book as far as I know, but even that was immediately so much better than EVERY OTHER FORM OF AUTISTIC REPRESENTATION I'VE EVER SEEN UP UNTILL THAT POINT!

Speaking as someone who has autism and went to a highschool for autistic kids, this isn't the only way to represent a character with autism / a character that is autistic coded, enter mob psyco 100: The main character Shigeo Kageyama aka "Mob" is a perfect example of what it means to have autism rather than just portraying a character with autistic traits. Mob is kind and gullible, his "power" (if you can call it that) is a representation of literal overstimulation represented as a percentage meter, in the story there are multiple points where he gets to 100% and depending on what feeling he's being overwelmed by can make the result vary which is an incredibly accurate depiction of how overstimulation feels. He fears being rejected, he fears that he might hurt someone he cares about someday, he joins the body improvment club because even though he's insanely strong through his psychic powers he still wants to improve. There's more that i'd like to add to this comment but honestly, you should watch it for yourself if you haven't already. What I'm trying to convey here is that there's untapped potential for autistic characters that have certain courses of action because they are autistic.
