Fucking same! When I graduated I moved out to the Seattle area (from Wyoming) and my god it was so different. At first I didn’t mind it all because the weather was great, the food was great, the convenience of everything was awesome. However, the people felt detached. They weren’t necessarily rude or anything but they weren’t as, idk, homey? Like to me they didn’t seem to hold the same value towards their home as people did where I came from. I did eventually move back home and I do in fact enjoy it more than Washington State. Convenience isn’t all there and if you wanted to go shopping at nice malls or whatever then you’d have to drive between 30-60 minutes to get anywhere. But it’s home. Everyone here is friendly. Everyone here is armed. And we all go about our daily lives without the our state government or the federal government interfering with our lives.

If the world was perfect, sure. But both sides are human, and sometimes the people we're suppose to rely on and depend on for support aren't there for us. I was very fortunate to have many teachers I could talk to openly about difficult issues I couldn't with my own family, just being told someone was there for me if I needed it was a great help at times. For many children, school sometimes end up becoming a safe haven for them away from the dangers of their own home life. The issue is very grey unfortunately, and that's why some of the lunacy we're seeing more often now on social media is considered ok when it may not be and potentially harmful to others in many ways. It's one thing to let your students know a bit more about your public identity, it's another to force it onto them though...
@zephsmith34992 жыл бұрын
@@HateIsJustice Very good point. We need to remember that most of the woke folks are well intentioned, trying to do the right thing, and want a better world. They are not inherently evil people. And many of the practices and precepts likewise grow out of positive precursors, but then jump the tracks and go rogue. To give an example, when I was young the saying was "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me". Of course that's not literally true, but it represented an aspiration of learning to be less easily hurt by mere words. When applies reciprocally, this precept supports reciprocal free speech as well. Then a few decades ago there was the helpful recognition that some kids are badly damaged by "emotional abuse", even without sexual or physical abuse. Alas, that positive recognition turned into a slippery slope. Many people in an argument used a weaponized version, accusing the other person of emotional abuse when the label was not accurate. Gradually the difference between having hurt feelings and being harmed was eroded. The self-esteem movement was a psychological fad which has mostly been abandoned in psychology, but left a major impact on a generation (or more) of kids raised when it was popular. And eventually neo-progressive politics really weaponized mutations of the concept, treating disagreement as violence because the person being disagreed with might feel hurt or a decreased self esteem. Now, even "silence = violence" is a common protest poster. The original roots of the changed perspective were largely positive; emotional abuse is real. But then as political movements weaponize the concepts, they morph into pernicious incentives to cultivate real or pretended fragility, as a low effort approach to gain more power over others. Today, some students claim they suffer damage if a speaker they object to is allowed to give a talk on campus - even on a different subject and only to willing listeners. Even people with positive intentions can cause great harm, if too divorced from reality or psychological (spiritual?) wisdom.

Subsequently if no effort is made for at least minimal LGBT education, questions are sure to arise, students are not sheep. My "leftist" ideology is a difference of life and death for many students and if you think school is only teaching math etc you're naive, it's a big part of personality development and opinion forming which should be diverse. School should be safe for ALL students to develop and visibility helps a lot. The opinions of parents should come second to the safety of the students.

If the adults around them praise a boy for acting like a girl, then the boy will act like a girl to the highest extent they can. They will even go so far as to chemically castrate themselves because thats what the adults told them is best for them. 10 year olds do not have the life experiance to know what they'll want to to do in their 20s or 30s. They are doing it because the adults around them are saying "It's what's best for you". This is why we don't allow children to legally consent to things, because they literally don't know what they want. They can't vote, own a gun, or legally have sex, but they're allowed to chemically castrate themselves by taking hormones/hormone blockers? lol ok. It's not bigotted to say "Let them see if it's a phase they'll grow out of" because for a rather large majority it is. Society is telling girls that if they have "boyish" tendancies then they should either transition to a boy or at the very least be non-binary. ALL based on stereotypes of what men and women are. If they still think the same way when they're 20, then fucking let them do whatever they want to their own body. They're of much better mindset to make that perminant desicion than an 8 year old is. EXACTLY! I was born in the 70s and same thing, the most we knew about any of our teachers was if they were married or not or if they had kids. Even for the ones that were gay, we always kinda just knew, but regardless, we were raised not to ask those questions because it wasn't any of our business and that shouldn't even be discussed in school. We weren't there to be pals with our teachers and vice versa. Same with college, and I even went back to college in 2000-2005 and still, NONE of my teachers ever spewed all their personal baggage on us, not even if they were asked. It was the same thing, they changed the subject or outright told you it was none of your business...as it SHOULD be!

actually...as a teacher, yes, yes you do answer to the parents. You have zero legal rights to those kids, parents ALLOW their children to go to school and be taught. They have options, homeschool, private school, moving to a new school. It isnt your kid, you are there to educate that child in the BASICS of science, math, history, and geography. You are not a professor, you are not an ethics teacher (thats called a PARENT). The children you teach are CHILDREN, not adults, and there is no need for you to try and treat them like adults and have conversations they do NOT need to have at a young age. The whole time I was going to school during the '90's, there were constant images of happy international kids holding hands, usually dancing in a circle in the process. You couldn't get away from them; they were on posters, flyers, those little cardboard cutout things that they used to border bulletin boards with, etc. - hell, they showed up on 'the Simpsons'. It was always the usual suspects - an African boy, an Asian girl, a couple of European kids, etc. I always used to think they were the sappiest damn things, and always used to roll my eyes at them. Now? I'd give just about anything for those happy dancing kids now. I don't know if they still show up in schools, but I have my doubts - they're too inclusive in the wrong ways, you see. There's no indication that the white kids in the ring feel bad about themselves, or that the black kids feel oppressed, or that the little Asian girl is an honorary white. Doesn't fit THE MESSAGE, you see. If those kids were reimagined now, there'd be one ring of kids who were various shades of brown and, I don't know, rainbow, and a ring of white/Asian kids dancing around them going 'we're sorry' - and then the artists would get in trouble because the white kids seemed too threatening, and nobody was announcing their pronouns, and someone would weep about it on social media. Civics boiled down to School House Rock, American History boiled down to Platoon and that's sadly the most memorable schooling I've had. Might be different if our Government wasn't throttling the education budget, but those teachers have to fill the school day with something. If they don't have the funds to actually do their jobs, you're going to be seeing a lot more of this.

My 5 year old son was given an award at end of year (along with 2 other boys) last year for something and I was in the crowd, all proud. Then I heard a teacher behind me say out loud “that’s sexist” because my son got the award instead of a girl. I’ve been annoyed by that since.

That’s disgusting that anybody would say that, but a teacher that’s even worse, the fact that a teacher thought that your son getting an award he worked for and earned rightfully, is sexist is terrible.
@lizbec10852 жыл бұрын
I’ve come to understand that this behavior is simply bullying, and there are actually so many kinds of bullying. I call that kind, “passive aggressive/authoritarian bullying.” The attack doesn’t always appear direct, it’s sneaky, but the bully is pushing you (and anyone around them who might take them seriously, including their actual children who have no choice but to be around this bully for physical survival) to adhere to their moral judgment. They insidiously try and indoctrinate those around them with a cultish/rigid/narcissistic ideology. Giving kids awards for actual hard work and accomplishments makes sense and helps everyone grow and strive harder to reach their goals! Awarding kids for something based on anything other than merit, such as superficial, identity based characteristics, confuses kids and makes them insecure and less likely to really try hard and succeed on their own. Congrats to your son for the award!

As a grad student trying to get my Ed.D, you are absolutely right, education is dominated by the radical left philosophies. Critical theorists like Freire are applauded while ideas like working hard to have a better position in life is called a myth. Some of my fellow grad students actually called for teaching high schoolers CRT but naming it something else so that "parents don't get angry." They see themselves as activists and activism is supported by the combination of theory and practice (praxis), so their philosophy requires them to subvert the system for "justice" and "equity." And yet the theoretical books are so dense that many of the students that are pro-social justice don't even understand the writings though they think that the ideas are amazing. It's a crazy world and I have less and less hope for education the more classes I take.
@mbb--2 жыл бұрын
It disgusts me that these people view themselves as the "good guys" when their "praxis" is inherently coercive. Lying about curriculum to strip parents and other stakeholders of the ability to make informed choices about public education is coercive. Placing special emphasis on transmitting an ideology to those who most lack the critical thinking skills to evaluate it, i.e. young children, is also coercive. I don't see the "justice" in adopting cult methods as pedagogy.

This is as far down the 'rabbit-hole' as I'm going to go MY mother taught for 30+ years (elementary, if you're curious) was state board certified, and has a masters in education. I'm no teacher, but one of the first things she taught me about teaching was this. "Great teachers teach people *HOW* to think. Bad teachers teach people *WHAT* to think. And when I was in college, I had a professor who would go on ignorant rant after ignorant rant about cultures he knew nothing about, concepts he didn't understand, etc... If a teacher goes into that field with an agenda, planned or otherwise, they're going to push it. And in all honesty, it's not always the "left" that does this. I think it's a bit disingenuous to put this particular burden on teachers only telling one side. That said, I agree this is a massive issue, especially the younger such teachers get their agendas into students' heads. Example. I was in a gifted intellect program when I was in school. And one of the teachers there mentioned how carbon dioxide poisoning worked, in a *VERY* grim way. She said "People just fall asleep and don't wake up" She also taught against several other things, including pollution, in such a way that I didn't even WANT to drive until I absolutely had to to go to work at 18-19. Why? Because said 'teacher' taught me that by driving a car we would destroy the planet, etc. etc... It was terrifying for I beleive what, 10-12 year old child. Thinking back on that at 35 now, it disgusts me.

"My parents still call me she....after 25+ years of calling me exactly that and only that" Some of these teachers shouldn't even be allowed on school grounds, let alone as teachers. The using other people's kids in their social media content...asking them to repeat mantras over and over on camera. Forcing them to use validating/affirming language for them because they have emotional issues, and continually bugging them about it until they get it right. That's gross. It's only teachers between the ages of like 22 and maybe 35, for the most part. So it's not a natural thing. While I agree schools are getting bonkers, I respectfully have to disagree with STEM. And that's as a graduate of Georgia Tech. Not understanding the truth of our Constitution, our American history, etc. has done extreme damage to our society, as evidenced by the last two years. As a teacher myself I got ALL the responsibility for my students. that means I have sometimes hundreds of people rely on me. So my political views, my private life or my gender are irrelevant and unnecessary to spread in school. (There are NO gender differentiate pronouns in Hungarian language. And that's why we will never get this pseudoscientific bullshit about "gender role'.) I don't talk about it even if they ask me. The headteacher is my boss, but I also work TOGETHER with ALL the parents. They expect me to take care, teach and help their children. And if I fail them in some way, they have all the right to kick my ass. A child is not a grown up person in any way. So they can't make serious, life changing decisions until a certain age. Their parents are responsible for them. And I as a teacher during schooltime. I have to treat them respectfully and help them as much as I can. Sometimes if necessary I hard on them but I'm trying to be coherent. I have to watch all of them. I'm not their friend obviously they won't be honest with me. So I have to find out what's the problem or is there any by myself. And it's easy, because they spreading there signs everywhere. And when I see that a child is in trouble, tired, exhausted; I try to be a bit more easy on them. No matter what the situation is, the CHILD IS THE FIRST!!! At least that's how it goes in my school in HUNGARY.
