Honestly, if that were me I'd revive the Aegislash and write it off as a mod glitch, but I looked up how the mechanics work: Wide Guard Nearly always moves first (priority +3). The user and its party members are protected from moves made by other Pokemon, including allies, during this turn that target all adjacent foes or all adjacent Pokemon. This attack has a 1/X chance of being successful, where X starts at 1 and doubles each time this move is successfully used. X resets to 1 if this attack fails or if the user's last used move is not Baneful Bunker, Detect, Endure, King's Shield, Obstruct, Protect, Quick Guard, Spiky Shield, or Wide Guard, or if it was one of those moves and the user's protection was broken. If X is 256 or more, this move has a 1/(2^32) chance of being successful. Fails if the user moves last this turn or if this move is already in effect for the user's side. So the issue was actually putting Wide Guard into the same category as Protect, and giving it a fail chance due to his previous use of King's Shield. That's kind of dirty.

The reason you wipe is the speedup and misplay on the crit eq and not switching to pelli and swampert back and pp stall eq

Wide guard failed because it's considered a protect move in radical red and he used king's shield the previous turn, thus essentially going for a double protect and not getting it. (This is why you cannot stall infinitely by switching between detect and protect. They all go off the same counter.)

@@magicalgirllaurie I just checked Bulbapedia and apparently this is the way it originally worked in 5th gen but afterwards it was changed so that it still increases the counter for the other protect moves, but wide guard itself can be used infinitely. This is why Wolfey was caught off guard because generally speaking radical red runs off gen 8 mechanics.

As far as I know, Wide Guard specifically works that way to prevent an exploit with the AI. It always goes for the spread move and doesn't know how to expect or play around Wide Guard, so you could cheese Sabrina and Loreli really easily by spamming it.

I'm honestly disappointed that Soupercell gave Loreli a rain team instead of a proper Ice team. So I messed her up with mega Abomasnow just to spite her for the crap she has in her team. (I just finished my first playthru of Radical Red). My jaw hit the floor when she sent out Kyogre... but when she sent out Dracovish, I screamed 😱 "NO! NO! NO! YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE!" since I was still freshly traumatized by Clair's Dracovish. Thankfully my Mega Abomasnow one-shotted P-Kyogre, and with my tailwind up Sirfetch'd obliterated Dracovish.
