Even in Japan, we could listen to the Radio Luxenburg by Short Wave. In 1970's I could enjoy many popular music through the Radio Luxemburg...even I was Junior High School student in thouse days.....

Suddenly, I found an old tape recorder. 1. 5 hours of music. Unfortunately I had to do a lot of editing for the material to appear on KZbin. And we have the surprise of Legendary Radio Luxermbourg from November 1991. A month later, the radio stopped broadcasting. There are no more such stations today. Enjoy.

I Grew up from age 8 listening to 208, it is no longer there. There are loads of new stations about now all playing to 40. Surely this format has outlived its time. I would like to see Luxembourg back but they need to be Different to what is on offer today.

W nocy jeżeli dobrze pamiętam był program: "zwölf bis zwei" ? A że odbiór był kiepski, wieszałem dipol w oknie ( wisiał na 2 szpilkach wbitych w tapetę po obu stronach okna) a jak spadło dipolowi to "golił" kaktusa z listków stojącego w oknie. A rano opr od mamy za kwiatka:-) To były czasy.......🤣

Radio Luxembourg was Europe's most listened to radio station. It was killed by a money saving CLT whose interests weren't in broadcasting and were more beancounters / auditors whose job it was to make money than serve listeners. Radio Luxembourg on satellite reached millions of Astra satellite dish owners across Europe and those in the UK with Sky Television.

Had it been on FM from the get-go, they will have been good competition for Radio 1 - although a radio station broadcasting from Europe somewhere - doesn’t matter where - broadcasting in stereo to the UK 24 hours a day, when Radio 1, before about 1988, remained resolutely in mono on medium wave might seem ridiculous to anyone!

Problem is, the CLT (Compagnie Luxembourgeois De Télédiffusioné) probably wouldn't have got, or indeed would be granted an UK FM licence in the UK being based in Luxembourg, Europe. I would've made a better effort of marketing the 24h a day stereo satellite service via Astra to UK and European FM partner stations, rebroadcasters on FM who felt unable or unwilling to provide a full 24h service as a filler between their own programmes for parts of the day, and a better marketing effort to get more and more cable carriers to relay the station from the Astra satellite with a free 40 minute stereo hi-fi VHS cassette about the Radio Luxembourg satellite service on Astra, with history about the station, it's existence on satellite and the technical information for partner stations rebroadcasters and CATV operators to tune in their equipment to relay the 24h stereo satellite feed from Astra and a guide to the Astra satellite equipment needed to receive and rebroadcast the station on their outlets plus technical bumf and reply cards to send back. That would be a much better effort to get it rebroadcast than a single advert in broadcast trade magazines.

And now the Chinese are building wide bandwidth receivers that make AM Radio sound absolutely amazing. For example the Tecsun H-501x. All the less than intelligent broadcasters that pulled the plug on AM & SW Radio are wondering what happened to AM Radio and AM technology. How has it become so much better? Gee, it was that good sounding all the time. So any of the people below that are calling for the return of music on the AM band are visionaries and the corporate types are know nothings. Except for Chinese companies that are building 1930's technology wide bandwidth radios once again.
