Hi, thanks for the review of this baofeng radio.Why is it that some Amazon and KZbin reviewers mentioned that this particular gmrs radio has 7 watts power output, and you’re saying it’s only 5?
@GadgetTalk4U7 ай бұрын
It's hard to say. Could be different meters or quality control between radios. After your comment, I double checked and got 4.5 today.

One good thing, your mention of that repeater website led me to a repeater within range, though it's in the opposite from ideal direction. Still, gives me hope. A mast and a base station was just too much.

Don't feel bad the only repeaters that work at my house is weather repeaters. I have powerlines running over my house, so I cannot get any reception on any radio inside my house, except for weather channels. I have scanned from 10MHZ to around 1.5GHZ, and all I can pickup is weather channels. There is a repeater right down the street, and i cannot even pick it up inside my house. I always knew powerlines can hurt reception, but these powerlines ruin all reception except weather channels. I have to go like a block away before I can pick up any signals. All my radios work fine everywhere, except at or around my house. I did find that all the NOAA channels are also on other frequencies as well. For example, I can get NOAA channels on 54.18750, 18.07300, 23.23700 etc. So at least now I know I do not need a radio with NOAA channels, because ever time I scan those are the only channels I can receive, so I can just program them into any radio. I also now know that the weather repeaters are way more powerful than other repeaters, because they're they only repeaters that can defeat these powerlines.
@bulldogbrower6732 Жыл бұрын
Those are really different frequencies for NOAA channels. Most radios that I know of are programmed to pick them up in the VHF band, at 162.400-162.500.
@chrisgullett4332 Жыл бұрын
@@bulldogbrower6732 Yes those frequencies do pick up NOAA channels. No not all radios will receive NOAA or even 162MHZ. I have several radio that do not have NOAA channel and are capable of receiving 162MHZ. HF radios that operate under 30MHZ that do not have NOAA, I can now program weather channels in, because I have found them in the HF bands. The reason a lot of radios do not have NOAA is because it is only in the U.S.. You will even see custom firmware for devices like the UVK5 and they simply take NOAA off the firmware and replace it with another feature. For example, when you push the NOAA weather button on most the custom firmwares, it goes to a spectrum analyzer, and NOAA is no longer a feature on the radio. Again, they it because NOAA is only in the U.S. The only other countries that use the same 162MHZ frequencies for weather are Mexico, Canada and Bermuda. But it is not the same as NOAA. Canada has WeatherRadio, and Mexico has SARMEX, and the rest of the world does not use 162MHZ for weather. Nonetheless, that is why most radios do not have NOAA. Motorola only puts NOAA on radios strictly for the U.S. market, and even a lot of those radios do not have NOAA. You do not find NOAA on a lot of expensive radios. Probably the two most popular series of radios in the U.S. Motorola has right now are the DTR and DLR series, and neither has NOAA. They are made specifically for the U.S. because no other country except Australia even uses the frequencies they use, and they still do not have NOAA channels. Once you look at a lot of the higher priced radios you will start noticing they almost never have NOAA channels. Not to mention a lot of the expensive radios are not even capable of receiving 162MHZ. NOAA is basically a feature for the U.S. that companies think spies up their advertisement for poor people. It is like they are saying that thousand dollar Motorola ain't got this feature.

I received the UV-5G Plus today, and found that Channel 18's programming is wrong for TX (transmit), which I verified on the HT and the CPS. Seeing on your video (CPS Snapshot @16:30), the CPS shows the same, in which Channel 18's TX is set to 462.56250 MHz, which is actually Channel 1 (offset of -5.0000 MHz). Something else I noticed, is that for menu option #43 (Power-On Password), they don't give instructions on how to change the factory code from "000000", or tell you to use the Menu button as an "Ok" to submit the code. Decent little HT but has a few bugs that need sorting out. I'm really surprised the channel programming error made it all the way to release and wasn't caught.

I let my contact know about the wrong freq on channel 18. It didn't impact the radio but the display was wrong. They got back to me yesterday and said they have a new CPS release where they fixed the display for channel 18. Cheers. Those settings are in menu items 11 and 13. Scroll to the right number. If it is the input tone, set menu 13. Set 11 to output tone. Most don't use one, so leave it blank. Check out my beginner's book. The New Operator's Guide to GMRS a.co/d/9io0T1T
