RE: Young Griff's age - "15, 16 or near enough to make no matter" when he's 18. Tyrion mistakes Jon Snow as being 12 when he is 14 in Game. Jaime mistakes Aurane Waters as being 20 when he is 22 in Feast. That is, people (or Lannisters?) confuse these Valyrian men as being 2 years younger than they really are. Perhaps Valyrians tend to be late bloomers?

However, it is commented when Tyrion, Illirio, Haldon & Duck meet up that Young Griff has been growing rapidly. That does not sound right for an 18 year old where growth has already slowed. Tyrion's guess that Aegon/Y. Griff is about 15/6 is in fact correct. And that is another major hint, along side a few others, that this is not the son of Raegar & Elia. In my opinion, this is the grandson of Bittersteel & Calla, Daemon Blackfyre's grandson through the female line. The major indicator for this is Tyrion's dream, whilst travelling with Illirio, when he is fighting alomgside Barristan & Bittersteel. Bittersteel. GRRM is telling us that Tyrion is about to meet a direct descendant of Bittersteel.

Oh my GOD! I'm a huge Aegon fan (I personally think he'll win the GOT). He share a lot of similarities with Henry Tudor... A dragon sigil, a supposed prophecy, a long exile, a personal father-like guardian, questionable claim to the throne. Both Henry and Aegon were groomed to be king. Keep up the awesome work guys!

I love your analysis of Connington! He's become one of my favorite characters. I think he's a man driven by his love of Rhaegar Targaryen, but perhaps less capable than he'd like to think. I think when Myles Toyne told him what Tywin Lannister would have done at Stoney Sept it made Connington bitter with regret. And now he may find that any instict of compassion will be quashed in the pursuit of success for Aegon.

I love this podcast, especially its detailed analysis of theories and your excellent use of excerpts from the text as evidence/support. As both an attorney and a huge nerd, it gives me a happy nerd-gasm whenever someone properly uses textual and contextual support to bolster his or her arguments :) My only wish for this episode was that you would've expand further on the Lemore as Ashara theory (which I know has been theorized to death, but it's still one of my faves!). I also wanted to share my theory on what was foreshadowed here when Tyrion says: "[your dragon] is too far away to save you. You should have moved her to the center of the battle...keep your dragon close," to fAegon in ADWD: I don't think this implies that fAegon will lose a literal dragon in an upcoming Dance, but that had he wanted to truly win the game and the throne, he should have kept his dragon (figurative: Dany; literal: her dragons) close. Otherwise he will lose (read: die). You guys are dope!! :)

Here's a thought no one considered. If Randyl Tarly (who's name I can't spell) declares for Aegon, he has Margery in custody awaiting her trial. She would instantly become a Backfyre pawn. This would also make sense, becuase why else would George have mentioned where Margery is being held

I really hope for a dany vs. aegon conflict, mostly cause that will put varys and Tyrion (assuming dany takes him on) in opposition with each other. I feel it would be an interesting dynamic, these two players with a mutual respect for each other working against each other to get their candidate on the throne

It's quite a common theory and foreshadowed by all the storms, that Dany's invading fleet will probably be destroyed. Rome lost 2 whole fleets during their battles with Carthage along the coast of Sicily, but more telling are the Mongol and Chinese attempted invasions of Japan, both of which were utterly destroyed in that crossing. I'd say Dany will arrive with a much smaller force than she left with, potentially, and tragically, just her dragons and their riders surviving (though I won't cry if those raping asshole Ironborn all die in the sea, though I will shed a tear for their thralls).

Do most people realize that most like before Aegon was sent to Jon Connington that Illyrio may have raised Aegon up til he was a boy. The swapping of Aegon was when he was still but a year old if that old.

So this video is really interesting, especially with Tyrion noticing his red roots, If he was Targaryen and he was born with the silver/gold hair, I was always under the impression that his roots would be that color too.

I remember each time I finished Dance thinking who the hell is going to end up on that throne? You guys have just put the ideas in my head regards, Griff/Aegon ending up going all in on a DRAGON 🐉! And given a theory as to how that might happen.... Brown Benn, genius guys! great episode just 1 thougt. At 2:02:00 you talked about a mock Knight Dorathki pit fight that could foreshadow what's to come. If knights could beat Dotharaki but attacking just their horses isn't this true for knights fighting other knights? If this strategy is unique & a game changer how come it doesn't help knights beat other mounted knights in battle? It seems obvious to attack the horse of a mounted warrior in any fight so I don't understand how this would be a game changer for a knight against a Dothraki

Hi. I just got a new idea. As you know, aegon is a dragon , albeit false.. he will take grey plague from his Griff.. and become the "stone dragon" who spreads grey flames. A stone dragon checks as it is "black". And "false" and he is closest to spread greyscale.

I have a feeling that the dance of the dragons 2.0 won't be targ vs targ/blackfyre. A dance of the dragons 2.0 would just need dragons fighting. Euron with dragon binder or the warg power of the nights King could make someone else have dragons other than dany or targ/blackfyre. Aegon could be a red herring in a number of ways.

That's what I was thinking as well. The biggest impediment for Aegon is gaining control of a dragon, and that hell horn that Euron has sent to Meereen with Victarion has gotten a lot of time on page. Seems to be the most likely path to a second rider for the second dance. Interestingly, the confirmed idea that there will be a second Dance conflicts with the often-imagined notion of "the dragon has three heads" being embodied by Jon, Tyrion and Dany riding the three dragons.

Perhaps there is another suit of black Valyrian armor out there beyond the one that Euron is going to procure. But if there is not, I am hoping that killing Euron is a way for Jon to get that armor (as he "sees" himself wearing one like that at the Wall). It would seem fitting if Jon would also get to ride the dragon named for his father, so if Euron snags Rhaegal with Dragonbinder, I'll be looking for Jon to claim the dragon, as well. The dragon having three heads probably pertains more to the human component of the Targaryen legacy in the prophesy, although I, too, have figured it also related to the human-dragon match up.

+Helyne May I think Rhaegar armour will be the black armour Jon has on and it will be in Lyanna crypt. I think Jon will defo ride Rhaegal and I think the other 2 dragons could be the ones that get killed off. I think at one point drogon will be taken by the nights King.

Stuart Arms I could be down with Jon wearing Rhaegar's armor, except Robert smashed the chest in on it. Rhaegar himself was supposedly burned, but his smashed armor *could* have been recovered (minus the rubies), I suppose. An aside: I believe Dany will ride Drogon until one of them dies. Some people like to believe he is meant for Jon, but he is the closest thing to a reincarnation of Drogo, and he is meant for her. She even placed Drogon's black egg near Drogo's heart before she lights the pyre, and he is, of course, named for her love. It's a bummer to think there will be a wighted dragon, but that may be as close as we get to an ice dragon. Not sure which one it will be, as much as I like to speculate.

Anyone ever wonder why we never read of raven carts that return the birds to castles that need a bird that flies to specific Lords. There should be wagons going all over the place and maybe even a whole class of Ravenry Maesters. With the flights of the ravens being pretty limited, there should be some kind of evidence. Maybe there is and George just doesn't write about it... after all this is ASOIAF, and we rarely get glimpses of the common folk. I haven't read all of The World of Ice and Fire yet. There might be a job in there like that. One that's shitty, and doesn't pay well, but is entirely essential to the goings on of the whole realm. We might not ever know.

It's really interesting that Aegon echoes Daeron the Second, that dragons remain as he is one. Viserys's temperament might have been directed properly under someone like Tyrion/ only Tyrion rather, echoing Jaime 'there are no men like me, only me' (maybe that was Loki too) Similarly erratic and Targaryen minded, but before he had to sell Rhaelle's crown he may have done better, it's crushing really. The parallels are enthralling. Two Jon's taking and planning to take their homes back, rash courses exhibited by Step Brothers/ Cousins etc atleast before Jon Snow was murdered and in state since then (ofcourse ignoring the show events) Both Jon's dreaming of ancestral tombs and fighting a form of death/disease too. The identity crises and related themes are impressive. Analysing these books is a challenge without these podcasts, I'm struggling with my own style.

I have to disagree that Jon Connington's affections towards Rhaegar were never returned. Being attracted to women doesn't mean necessarily that you're not attracted to men. I could personally see it being a casual thing on Rhaegar's part. Wouldn't be the first time a knight was having casual sex with his squire - even when married. In fact, I always thought that part that you read where Jon thinking back on the one time he was at Griffen's Roost with Rhaegar was alluding to a sexual experience between the two. Basically, I don't think there's any sort of conclusive evidence to say whether or not Rhaegar returned Jon's feelings and I am completely here for bisexual Targ prince Rhaegar.

I think that's a possibility, but I have my own theory. Rhaegar, just from the way he's described by Jaime, Barristan (despite their bias) and even Ned, never struck as a man with any real sexual desire outside of his duty to produce heirs. He was like Aerys I before he found the prince that was promised prophecy and decided to become a combination of Aerys I and Maekar I.
