This is actually my favorite FPS. I know it got plenty of criticism but I think the reason that was the case was because so many went into it expecting it to be like a more action-driven Fallout or they plowed through it like it was some sort of post-apocalpyse DOOM game. I find it's best enjoyed when played as a middle ground between those two. It shouldn't be taken super slowly like Fallout, but it shouldn't be blazed through, either. On my first playthrough, I put over 40 hours into it because I took my time to soak in the game world, freely explore and just have fun. Definitely one of the most underappreciated FPSes IMO. I understand that the main story itself wasn't groundbreaking but the gameplay, the setting, that's what really gripped me. Every time I play it, I just have FUN. Also, the graphics are fantastic. I wish more devs would take a hint from Avalanche and id's work on this game, particularly in the texture department. Far too many modern games have these muddy textures and rely far too much on texture mapping, instead of creating detailed textures that are made even prettier with texture mapping. RAGE 2 didn't have that issue, the textures looked as gorgeous with the camera right up on them as they did from a distance. The lighting and color palette also added a lot of beauty to the game, especially where they went particularly bonkers with the environmental details.

Dude, you should try Borderlands... It has more stuff to do than Rage, theres 6 or seven types of guns, but countless variations, theres vehicles that you can customize, sure the graphics are cartoonish, more akin to a comic book art style, but despite that you would found out lots of crazy shit. The good thing about Borderlands is that it isn't pretentious, the story is there mostly to serve as an excuse for gameplay, thats why you face from cannibal psychos to ancient robot alien guardians, huge boss battles with giant crazy bosses or even insanely powerful characters.

Like only being able to really sprint in a straight line, it also FUCKING interrupts you with cut scenes & stupid events all the time. The A.I is extremely stupid. Rage 2s problem is it's empty open world. Bulletstorms combat would be better if it had more old school mechanics and features to really compliment the leash & theirs no urgency playing it because of regenerating health. I tend to agree. One thing that people might miss about the Firestorm Revolver, is that you can use it to time your kills. They stun while ablaze, unable to act, giving you a chance to prep for killing other enemies, and getting multiple kills in quick succession. A huge part of successful aggression is chaining kills together. Your Overdrive multiplier goes up, which causes enemies to drop more feltrite, which heals you, and if specced into in projects, can maintain overdrive or the multiplier. The Firestorm Revolver isn’t a hand cannon; it’s a time-warper. Use it to set up enemies for later, and squeeze more kills into a shorter time frame, to raise the multiplier more.

@@MrJemoederopeenstokj IDK RAGE 1 felt more like that since with RAGE 2 they knew what they were making from the start but there just wasn't much interest (or commercials/advertisements) for RAGE 2. I personally find all the activities and everything highly enjoyable, except that there should have been more story and all the powers/weapons should have been unlocked early in the beginning rather than letting players figure it out on their own (plus some screen effects can be very annoying). GmanLives, you're one of the few game commentators that I can stand listening to. You're really in depth and adult. I don't have to wade through a bunch of silly pubescent jokes and shit like that. Even Angry Joe makes me cringe with how stupid all the (attempts at) humor are. Props man, keep up the good work. And yeah, if id Software has a hand in a shooter I'm definitely going to get it. i'll make sure to spend a good amount of time on the game first and seek out a bunch of arks at the beginning.

Looks like Crysis mated with Far Cry Blood Dragon.

Yeah, but later on it was revealed that Doom 2016 was fucking Blood Dragon behind Crysis’ back and the child was his all along. Then it was put up for adoption and raised by Mad Max.

Yoo Hoo Edited my reply. Thanks for the correction, but by the look of how the dash works, it might’ve been Doom: Eternal that cucked Crysis all along.

Thanks mate - a review that helps you avoid a game is worth as much as one that helps you buy a game. Keep up the good work!

I'm an epileptic and I appreciate you bringing up the screen effects as this is definitely a title I need to avoid. Most games are OK but this game takes the chaotic effects from Borderlands and dials them up to 11. It's a bit too much for me.

I dont know why this game has a lukewarm reception (mixed on steam reviews) but the combat felt so good and the environments were pretty interesting. It doesnt have much of any in your face story but never felt it actually needed one. The car combat is pretty much an afterthough tho considering these are the creators of the Mad Max videogame and it has one massive game breaking bug... but overall this is such an underrated game. By the time i finished it, im clamoring for more. The weapons and the abilities are so satisfying

RAGE 1 looks deeper in its own way. How about the animations? The 1st one has one of the best animations in games (also the nicest skybox). And how the hell did they not include the Crossbow and alt ammo and the cute spider robot???

Something I did to enjoy rage was use keyboard and mouse obviously for the gun sections and have my controller on stand by for all the driving sections. I tell you, it's night and day. Makes all the difference in enjoying the game.

Real gem. I wanted to uninstall in the opening but then it becomes just so fun, and the game world is so varied and interesting. I wish you could rely on some of the basic cars more though.

I think Red Faction Armageddon had a gun that was similar to the grav dart, it was called magnet gun if I remember correctly. That one could rip parts off of buildings as well, it was a fun weapon. On another note this seems like a big improvement over the original, I might have to give it a try.

If it's published by Bethesda, it's garanteed to be good (unless it's developed by Bethesda then in that case...)
