FEAR's AI wasn't actually very smart. They mostly convinced players they were through callouts, but all-in-all they were average. As well, the environments were very restrictive, simple, repetitive in some ways which made the AI easier to make decent. Much harder in games with more player movement and more complex level design.

@@-zbrdazdola- Again, it really wasn't. It just had audio callouts to make you *think* it was smart. It communicated well with the player. Many games do not have the AI and player communicate well, so they "appear" dumb even if they're much more complex. Modern AI, especially in big open-world games with lots of interactive objects is incredible smart. A great example for something more restrictive would be DOOM 2016's AI. Take a look at the developer videos and you can see some of what goes on.

@@TheGamerUnknown I can’t recall any other game where the A.I. would not just make call outs but act on them they constantly did things like actually pull back or bomb rush with covering fire, guess what weapon you were using and act accordingly (also you could trick them into thinking you had a sniper by getting a single bullet headshot which is awesome), having the mobility and brains to not just jump through windows but ambush you specifically using that and more but the callouts they made made it even more obvious that the AI was actually doing this work because there would be extremely specific callouts that they would very specifically act on

Gta 4 episodes of liberty city, the ballad of gay tony has the best pause music in my opinion. Like you could be in a middle of a classic gta rampage run and pause the game. Shortly after, somber soothing music settles in and the chill vibe wraps its arms around you, and soon as you unpause you are automatically welcomed to the utter chaos you have created. An amazing contrast.

Rage 2 is Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s movement mechanics blended with a similar tone to Borderlands, all wrapped up and delivered after both games existed and players got what they wanted from the other games. Rage 2 is average because it’s a game people have already played, twice. Edit: The Feltrite mechanic is just Doom 2016. So they’ve actually played the game thrice.

A very fair review. I never expected to enjoy Rage 2 (I don't generally go in for 'run-and-gun' shooters), but - damn - it took me surprise. Absolutely joyous game - mad as a bag of kittens, but the gameplay loop is so addictive and (vitally) it's accessible for less confident players (like me). From the off, the game is rewarding you and gently prodding you on to try the next encounter. By the time I was defeating my first mini-boss I was started to get hooked. You are right - the best tactic is to run straight into the middle of a bandit camp and rain hell on the goons. This game was designed for such utter madness and it works very well. Also, the game world is beautiful (I'm playing it maxed-out on a pretty powerful PC) and I love exploring the environments - lots of hidden stuff to find, often with rewards. Vehicle gameplay is also enjoyable. This is a gem of a game - a massive (include the 2 DLC expansions and you have even more to wade through). Highly recommended.

The convoy missions were actually my favorite part in the Mad Max game, also made by Avalanche Studios. But just like in Mad Max, the missions get all samey. Kill the same old dudes, kill the same old bosses, blow up the gas tanks, whatever. I played it once and basically stopped giving a shit after I was done.

I really loved Rage 1, it was an awesome, post-apocalyptic shooter and I felt like a badass playing it. It was satisfying and I loved it. Sure, the ending left a lot to be desired but overall it was fantastic and enjoyable. I haven’t played Rage 2 but based on what I’ve heard, it’s awesome, but it has a ton of flaws. I never really desired a sequel to Rage at all tbh. I was satisfied enough by the first game. I might try it one day but I’m in no rush.

I find it ironic that everyone wants to compare Rage 2 with Borderlands, Doom and Mad Max, and yet almost no-one seems to be comparing it to the most obvious game - the first Rage. I'm not surprised in all honesty, because most people didn't even play the orignal Rage, and out of those that did, only a minority thought it was anything special. I happen to be one of those 5 people who thought it was actually an excellent game, and it annoys me that the developer and publisher have generally acted like the orginal Rage never happened, and when it is mentioned, they try to downplay its relevance (for example, mocking the ending and making almost no attempt to cater to original fans). While Rage 2 looks like it has excellent first-person combat (depsite being completely detached from the original), that's honestly the only good thing I can say about it. The open world despite having more "colour" and biomes seems way to large for how it's actually used, full of empty space, has an obnoxious pink filter on everything and doesn't even have a shred of the atmosphere conveyed in the original. While the original Rage was a crazy game, it also felt grounded and created a great sense of tension and eeriness despite it supposedly being "too brown". Rage 2 seems to throw this completely out the window and make everything deliberately stupid and annoying, and not in a good way like Bulletstorm. Seriously, one of the enemy factions looks like an SJW stereotype. Furthermore, there is very little, if any memorable mission locations (as of what I have seen). I still remember The Dead City, Blue Line Station, Abandoned Distillery and Ghost Hideout from the original game. What does Rage 2 have? Twisting Canyons? The Dune Sea (a giant empty sand pit)? Not only this, but the map is full of all the lazy and timewasting busy work that Avalanche Studios has stuffed their games with ever since Mad Max. In moderation it would be okay, but of course bigger is supposedly always better nowadays, and so the map has so many icons to the point where it gives you a seizure. Also, why are there SO MANY currencies in this game? The original game kept it simple - money and race certificates. But from what I can tell, the sequel has FOUR in-game currencies and a fifth one reserved for their bizarre and completely uneccessary skin marketplace. It looks like such a mess and requires going through so many sub menus just to get to things like lore and upgrade trees. It's also a shame that the AI while better than what was originally revealed, is nowhere near as clever or engaging as the original game, who's AI still holds up incredibly well to this day. I guess it's because of the open-world nature, as most games in this genre tend to be lacking in this aspect. In the end, I hope that the really fun combat will carry me through the tedious open-world aspects of the game, but I'm not expecting Rage 2 to make anywhere near as much of an impact on me as the original did. I guess we'll wait and see, but I feel the disappointment of that small minority who actually saw something special in the original, and have instead been greeted with a generic open-world soft-reboot.

Honestly, having payed full price for this game, I enjoy it immensely. Plus, I got an extra layer of entertainment watching a friend play who was curious about it. To be honest, I’ve felt ripped off very few times buying a game at full price, and luckily this wasn’t one of those times. The amount of fun I had with this game and 18 or so hours I put into it were all well worth it if you ask me. I’ll definitely be playing around more, maybe even starting up a new play through on a higher difficulty.

If you haven't done it already then u should go for it. I played this on hard and then on nightmare. The gunplay in this game is arguably better than any other game i have played. Its better than doom actually. Just my opinion. But i enjoyed it immensely. Sure the open world stuff is crap, the story is well crap. But the combat man..the weapons the powers..once u get into the zone.. There's nothing like it.

Rage 2 was a $20 game charging $60. ...until 2 months after its release, when it went on sale for $20... It absolutely sucks that some of the guns are incredibly weak (especially the pistol that you get for pre-ordering the game.) It's almost as annoying as the game automatically changing your weapon when you use a particular ability. For a game that is set in a large open-world with racing, this game has the most boring driving. You can only upgrade one vehicle... I would rather move around like Tribes: Ascend.

Funny thing about this is I actually liked this game a lot. It was fun. I liked it much better than the original. The original was a boring Borderlands clone and I stopped playing it after maybe an hour or so. Sad part is I don't think there will ever be a Rage 3 considering the lack of sales of Rage 2.

So I played this on a PS4 Pro. I think this video is a perfect review for people who would play it on a PS4 Pro. But I brought the game to a friend since he had considered buying it himself, and he has a classic PS4. Dear God, was that an awful experience. The game for some reason has a major major input lag and the game fails to run properly. Enemies can drop from authority dropships and only actually spawn in 10 seconds after being dropped. Its a nightmare on a classic PS4
