Ren is a true artiste. He doesn’t confine his talent to one genre-take a pick and dive on in to the Ren rabbitverse. His lyricism is next level and as he says on the track ‘Power’ ‘I go for broke on every song I wrote’. He also does next level social commentary on ‘Money Game pt. 1& 2, and ‘Crucify Your Culture’. Everything is thought provoking. Cheers.

I've known about Ren for years as my daughter grew up in Brighton were he did a lot of busking (street performing for those outside UK). He is highly talented and was signed by Sony back then, but he got dropped when he got sick with misdiagnosed Lyme disease. He can sing, rap and does his own style of bardcore (this and the tale of Jenny, Screech and Violet) not to mention beatbox, play multiple instruments and does his own beats for his rap songs (other than retakes).

Welcome to the RENaissance. I will never get tired of watching reactions to his music in general but especially this song. It's always interesting to see a reactor from when he starts the yodeling business and everybody's either confused or laughing or sometimes even on the edge of turning the whole thing off, to the end when they're just captivated. That was fun. You should do more Ren. He's not all folk rap. This is actually quite different from what he normally does. But he doesn't fit into any one box. He is genreless. Or, as Black Pegasus, called him the last genre bender. I would enjoy watching your take on some of his other music. There will be a ton of people down below making suggestions. It's pretty much a given that you're going to want to do the tale of Jenny and Screech, the full version with all three stories together. Because it is a trilogy. It's a modern day Shakespearean tale told in three parts. It's best that the tales are watched back to back. It's 13 minutes long but just like this video probably didn't feel like 9 minutes his trilogy won't feel like 13. Past that he's got a ton of good music. He sings, he raps, he plays instruments, he makes his own beats... Can't go wrong no matter what you pick. His history is that of a busker a street performer. He's been doing this, working towards this goal of making it through music, for 20 years now. More than 20 years. And you will hear about his sickness as well from his fans. The short version is that he was diagnosed with Lyme disease finally after being misdiagnosed for many many years. Unfortunately, in addition to being sick, the being misdiagnosed means that he was prescribed medications he didn't need, given mental health labels that he didn't fall under like schizophrenia and/or bipolar disorder, and developed psychosis as a result of all of that. But the amazing thing is that he kept making music. I mean I can barely get out of bed some days. I sure as hell don't think I could do what he has been doing if I was a sick as he has been. Anyway, keep on keeping on. 🖖

Ren is the realist of the real, probably one of the most talented musical artists I've heard in 40 years of listening to all genres of music....his back story of illness and mis diagnosis is something you should research before you go down the Ren rabbit hole, it will give you a better understanding of some of his songs. Also as you start listening to more of his songs, some of the references he includes in his lyrics start to make more sense as he often references his own lyrics...I could suggest plenty of tracks but prob better for yourself to just go on the journey and enjoy...oh and if its rap your into, then Ren can proper Rap rap....I would only say to be careful with some as he they have to be listened to in a certain order like the tales trilogy....great reaction by the way you totally got it.

This is a deep&meaningful, relatable, slice of his #BardCore.... & this live capture (4th take I believe) is *thoroughly* impressive, so I'm not surprised millions have come to it thru word-of-mouth. True depth of talent *will* be passed around organically without a label machine - Hallelujah!! 🙌 He can also *rap* rap: check out "the Hunger", "Illest of our Time" (When you see "Ill" or "Sick" in a Ren song or title, be aware he's not trying to say he's the best rapper on the planet - he's been dealing with a nightmare of over a decade of misdiagnosed Lyme disease, incorrect meds etc.) He can also *sing* sing: check out pretty much anything he's done which isn't rap-dominant! He also plays some tasty (mostly bluesy) guitar & bass: check out him with his band The Big Push on the streets of Brighton doing Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sherriff", going into Damian Marley's "Road to Zion", going into him deciding on-the-fly to rap Dead Prez' "HipHop" over the band toward the end o_O The way he conducts/leads the band thru that makes a truly special live gig moment. also check him out with Sam Tompkins doing a live capture of their co-written song "Blind Eyed" for Music Crowns (there is also a high quality studio production OMV version you're probably going to want to see, to check out what the song the pair wrote with a guitar turned into when given the full high quality production - maybe treat yourself to a double-header?) Oh, & he does his own production! Oh, & he may break into some pretty solid beatboxing on occasion! #AnnoyinglyTalented LOL Welcome to the #RENaissance ;)

Ren is SOOOO talented. His stuff is all over the place from rapping, "folk" storytelling, rock singing, etc. For rapping check out The Hunger, Illest of our Time, Power, Genesis, or Money Game 1 + 2. For AMAZING storytelling do the trilogy Jenny's, Screech's, and Violet's tale... highly recommend the longer video with all 3 combined rather than doing them individually as they are all a complete story. For some more of his singing skills check out Chalk Outlines, How to be Me, or some of his street busking videos. He also was in a group called the Big Push that he did some more rock singing. Oh I'm sure I left out so much more... as you can see I've become a fan of Ren after hearing Hi Ren shortly after it came out. I expect a lot of people will comment the same and would love to see some more reactions to his stuff.

The personified inner thoughts thing is different here because both sides go through like three or four different mental states each. Negative thoughts goes from playfully sinister to threatening to demonic. Positive starts as mildly confident to a panicky argumentative thing, lands on tired and broken before going into the resilient mindset that he ends on. All capped off by Ren dropping some emotionally intelligent wisdom about learning to not be so frustrated with your illnesses. The acting on display is fantastic and you're not going to get anything like that monologue from any other artist his age because he's learnt to process heavier shit that 99% of people from a young age.

I've heard this was the 4th and favorite take and they edited in some of the closeups, but it's still a single live recording. If you want to hear him straight-up rap, he's got some great ones out there - maybe "The Hunger" is a good intro to that side. If you want to see him as a modern bard doing a Shakespearian tragedy unlike anything you've seen before, I suggest "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)" - it's actually 3 live-recorded videos put together. You can see all three separately, but the "Full" version is the way to go. If you want to hear more of his singing and guitar, he was in a band "The Big Push" and he was/is a busker on the streets of Brighton. You can check out some videos on the KZbin channel Brighton Beach Busking BBB. Ren's currently in Canada (expected to be there 6 months or more) receiving treatment for damage caused by his illness and misdiagnosis, and to prevent further damage. He's an independent artist, so there's a GoFundMe to help with his costs. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

I loved this video! Your reaction was awesome! All his songs are bangers! Sick Boi is a good one. He has Lyme disease that went misdiagnosed for a long time and is currently getting treated in Canada for it. He's an absolute musical talent. I don't really care what you check out of his but I hope that you continue to do so!

I have watched so many reactions to 'Hi Ren' since it tends to have such awesome reactions. I think you're the first I've seen point out the 'loosen the noose on the rope' in the context of the singer as the one holding the noose. I mean, I suppose the emotion would still apply, but I definitely interpret it as the positivity/hope being why the noose loosens, not just the outcome. Otherwise, you caught a lot of stuff really quickly! Realizing it was absolutely about mental health early on, the live playing and singing, etc. Great reaction!

BTW, I can relate highly to Ren, I didn't have my battles for the same reason, I was born with my psychosis, I battled it all my life, without drugs or therapy, and my heart goes out to Ren, but this song, it gives me hope and touches me deep inside, this is art, but it's also Ren emotionally and psychologically naked for all to see, it's beautiful and he is using his great talents to give the lessons he has learned as a student of psychological warfare to others still fighting it, only now as a teacher. I just turned 50 a week ago, and as much as I've struggled and learned, he has taught me another lesson, to voice it, to not be afraid to expose that to others, and I have, and it's like a weight lifted off my shoulders, that I can tell others now about that internal struggle. This is more than just music, it's art, and more than just art, it is life as some of us know it, and we are human beings.

@@jookya2 absolutely, me personally I don’t like the music that much, but that’s me. Best thing to come out of music is debatable but there will never be a true answer to that. But you think that he is amazing. I personally don’t. That is why it is objectively false.

You gotta watch Sick Boi. You wanna hear rap that is as you would say "Moii" as of you're eating fine cuisine then that would be Sick Boi and his new song Illest of Our Time.
