Most of this information has been covered in other videos on this channel but I wanted to create a shorter, more focused version for those who would like a quick reference guide or those who want quick tips and hints without the detailed explanation.
This video also updates the information to cover functionality through version 1.7 including the catchment area for warehouses and automated signaling for city stations and warehouses.

Time saver tip: hold shift while clicking at the station when setting up lines, it will open the "detail dialog" :D Nice video!

I have another take on your pass through warehouse. I have used it a couple times with success. Find 3 cities like this: Beer Meat What is in "City A" (beer or meat) doesn't matter. Hook a warehouse to City A and do your pass through via one platform line (one side of that platform to Beer city, one side of the platform to Meat city). That leaves you 6 lines and 3 platforms to bring in the warehouse contents and maybe a 4th city. I have used this concept on a couple maps and it grows up to 4 cities very rapidly. I don't put Meat or Bear (or cattle) in the warehouse .. and I create direct automatic lines from Meat to City A and Beer to City A // then a pass through line from Meat to Beer via the warehouse. When I add in the 4th city .. I connect it into the warehouse with hopefully the platform with the least traffic .. and the 4th city can connect to at least one (if not more) of the original 3 cities directly as well. 4 cities is usually the absolute most I would try to use with a warehouse. An example of this setup (on the south american map) would be Sao Paulo (meat) => Rio (chicha)

Thank for your excellent videos. One comment. I prefer to distribute supply towers to the feeding lines, because they are not so busy. Each supply tower will reduce throughput, especially if they are busy. It requests bit higher investments, but that should not be the real problem.

Great, why dont you place the supply towers on the bransches instead of the mainline to avoid crowded maintacks?

Tony Olofsson There has to be supplies on the mainline because some of the trains only run on the mainline. You could add towers on the feeder lines so that some of the RE supply would happen there but I’ve never stressed a system enough to make that necessary.

Hey Adekyn, thanks for great work! I have a question about the placement of tailor industry. Would it be better to have weaving and tailor in the same city, income-wise? Or would it create a spiral of self-feeding city, and it would be impossible to export any linen to other cities, because tailor would eat it all?

Either way works just fine. You need to match the output of the industry with the total need of all the cities that can be reached by train and match the shipment from the raw materials to the requirements of the industry. It depends on what you need and when the opportunity to place the tailor appears. Ideally, the weaver goes in city A as its second industry and the tailor goes in city B as it second industry. That allows you to get freight revenue for moving cloth to city B. However, there are tradeoffs because you need to make sure you have sufficient freight between the cities so that other goods don't get overlooked. I think another quick guide is on its way.

@@Adekyn100 wow thanks for quick reply! I am wondering who is paying for the transport. If you own both industries, wouldn't that be you renting your own freight? Isnt the cost deducted from one of the industries income?

pombar22 I wondered the same thing. But if we haul our freight to our companies our freight income goes up and our factory expenses stay the same. If only life worked like that.

From some experimentation I found eight to be a good number. Haven't really looked at it carefully to determine an optimal number.

On Steam you right click on Railway Empire, then select properties, go to the Betas tab and opt-in to the public beta. I have no idea how you do it or whether it can be done on a console.

What do you think of 1.7 so far and do you think the new stations are more efficient? It seems like sometimes having dedicated lines is still better since the trains don't seems to enter the cross tracks on the new stations more than one at a time even if they work collide which tends to slow the whole system.

The short and simple answer is "I like them, they work as designed, and they make the game easier to play." Your observation about the one at a time use of the junctions is spot on. There is still a single point of decision where the trains have to wait for the rather long junction (set of switches) to clear before going into or leaving the station. So the fact that the junction is so long is a drawback. However, if we tried to set up the most efficient warehouse manually there is no way to anticipate the exact order all the trains would arrive or leave the station. No matter how hard we tried we would still end up with multiple trains all trying to get to the same platform at the same time. So I believe the automated warehouses will win out in the long run and be more efficient.

On this video, I used what I call superstations. These are the large stations with automated signaling and the warehouse with automated signaling. These superstations automatically allow trains to pick any open platform in their destination station.

I don't understand.... there is no turn around loop.... How do your trains turn around once they've hit a city (or the supply trains after hitting the warhouse)? Are you not on realistic mode?

In Railway Empire the trains can turn around in the station automatically. It's as if there is a roundhouse in each station or warehouse.

Can you explain why you limited the warehouses to 20 loads? I max mine at 99. My assumption is that you are trying to reduce traffic at the warehouse? Does the game only subtract operating costs of trains that move rather than ones idling with an X?

Traffic. No need to have trains from the rural stations clogging up the works with materials that are not needed. The other side of that story is that as the cities grow you need to increase the storage and increase the number of trains carrying the materials to other cities to keep pace with the growth. I'm not 100% sure about the idling versus moving costs but you definitely save on supplies by having the trains idle. Of course a better player would optimize the number of trains so that there was minimal idle time and the warehouse stayed at a proper level of stock throughout. I'm not interested in so much micromanagement, so I set up sufficient trains right away and don't get too upset when they sit idle occasionally.
