Shore lunch!? ... but who needs a shore!? 😂 Never thought to just eat in the boat and keep fishing at same time! I miss fishing in the boat with my folks when I was a kid. Trout is my favorite fish. And yes, eat the bones folks and skin if you can learn to cook it so it is crispy and palatable too. Better for ya on both. Great video, thanks!

Ha ha ha! I know right! I actually had one on my hook with a worm to start the day, but Hoti insisted on using his marshmallow PB. Until that cast. Thanks for the tip and the support Dave, we really appreciate it man! Hopefully we hear from you again on the next one!

Is there an episode where you walk through your bobber/sinker setup? I was gonna try to replicate it.
@ForageToFire
@ForageToFire 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! Yeah take a look at the trout fajita episode and the fishing in the fog in a canoe episode for a little visual. My setup is I run 20lb braided line to a 6 to 8 lb fluorocarbon leader you can go lighter with the leader depending on the size of fish and water conditions or heavier of course if you're getting into some monster trout! 20lb I wouldn't go lighter on the braid if you choose to go that way because it tends to tangle. Or you go mono to your fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon is pricey but darn near invisible to spooky fish. I use a bobber stop above my slip bobber so I can adjust my depth. Down to a weight (a split shot or an egg weight) to a swivel. Make sure the weight is above the swivel so if it slides down the line it stops at the swivel and dose not end up on top of your hook. And then attach the hook about a foot or foot and a half down from the swivel, you can add one or two tiny bb size split shots below the swivel above the hook or none. Hopefully that helps! Let me know how you make out! Forage on!

@@ForageToFire Thanks so much for your quick reply! I'm actually out canoeing in a trout lake the weekend after next, so I'm eager to give this a shot. I'm from Ontario, CA originally, more familiar with bass fishing. I'm living in Washington state now, which is more trout country, and trout fishing always looked complicated and expensive. But I'm eager to try some trolling and bobber fishing, I was thinking of bringing two rods. Quick question: Why is using 20lb braided line important? if I just ran the flourocarbon leader off regular 10 lb test line, what's my worst case scenario? Just checking, I'm happy to buy it, but I'm always eager to know WHY I'm buying it, if that makes sense.

@@charlescauldron You're welcome.Right on that will be fun! It's not much more expensive than bass fishing. I guess a little bit because of the different ways you can catch trout like you mentioned you can troll, bobber fish, throw lures and spinners at them. But it's worth the investment! So much fun and you tend to loose less gear trout fishing I find! 20lb braid is a preference. I use 20lb because any lighter and it gets tangled too easily like 6lb or whatever. Braid is good because it's lighter and stronger than mono, and it casts further and doesn't get memory coil from the reel, plus the color of the braid is easy to see on top of the water so you know where your line is. But all that being said you can definitely use 10lb mono and run your fluorocarbon leader off of it, you'll catch fish using either mono or braid. I wouldn't change out your mono for braid if your reel is loaded with mono and ready to go. Just pick up some Seaguar fluorocarbon leader. And when you feel it's time to replace your mono, because there's barely any left on your reel, or it has mad memory to it, then consider trying braid. The biggest thing is finding the fish and presenting something they want to eat in the strike zone. With worm and bobber you want to be 2 to 3 feet off the bottom or about 10 feet under the surface. Be careful if you're using bobber stops when casting they will travel through the eyelets of the rod but sometime get caught up on the spool coming off the rod. So I have the bobber stop just reeled up to about an inch from going onto my reel. And that's about 10 feet, so a perfect depth from the surface where the bobber will be sitting. And if you want to fish near the bottom then you can set your bobber stop a lot higher so it's spooled up on spool, but just down try casting it instead let out line and paddle the canoe away from where you set out the bobber if you don't want to be right on top of it. Hopefully that helps! Have fun! Let me know how you make out fishing! Forage on!

Any tips on locating trout in a lake?
@ForageToFire
@ForageToFire Жыл бұрын
Hey Chance, spring and fall, trout cruise the near-shore transitions of lakes. Fish along the shore where you see drop offs and ledges. Summer months they are in deep water where it's cooler and more oxygen for them. Good luck! Forage on!

My rod is a Fenwick Eagle 5'6'' Ultra Light-moderate trout rod and a Daiwa Fuego LT 1000D reel and I run J-Braid to fluorocarbon leader.
