I gave my 90 years old grandma mullein infusion for clearing up her lungs as she was recovering from pneumonia. she tasted it and said she recognized the taste from when she was a little girl living in Bulgaria. turns out, mullein was and still is a popular remedy for respiratory issues in the Balkans for over a millenia. it made us both very very happy.

That is wonderful to hear. I feel like such a baby with herbs and need wisdom. I had started mullien this week because my hubby brought home something. My youngest is quadriplegic and if he gets sick, usually hits his lungs hard. Last evening I was thankful the Lord woke me up. I started him with a budesonide nebulizer, oxygen and found a zpak in the cupboard. I know herbs work, but need more wisdom before really letting go of western meds for my son.

You mentioned the analgesic properties; I used mullein tea as my sole pain relief when I broke my arm several years ago and it worked extremely well. When I got my Master Herbalist degree my thesis paper was on mullein-I consider it one of the most valuable plants around. As you mentioned, Heidi, it helps heal bones also. My dr. said I would need surgery to pin the broken bone, but I healed better than before the break! I also have a friend who was using opiate drugs for a "phantom pain" following amputation who used mullein to get off the drugs successfully over a period of 6 weeks. I would never be without this plant in my storage or growing in my yard!

After struggling for a week with severe lung issues in November of ‘20, I saw a video on mullein. Since there was a plant growing close to my morning walk I grabbed a leaf. My cough stopped and I got relief immediately after smoking a thumbnail size piece of leaf. No more coughing but a lot of throat clearing as the junk in my lungs was ejected by my stimulated cilia. The effects seem to last several days too. I now have about a pound of seeds and prolly 30 or so plants.😊

The only way I used Mullein for 4 years now, has been soaking the flowers in honey and taking a spoonful for cough. I had no idea about the other uses and will certainly begin using the leaves. They grow wild all along the roadsides here in Florida and I collect from country roads with little traffic or deserted fields. I've tried for years to grow it - bought plants, seeds, transplanted several. Nothing worked. The plants I've bought were both different from each other - still mullein but one was really bushy and the other was had thinner skinny leaves - the wild ones in Florida are bushy, fuzzy but extremely soft and the flowers on very tall stems in the spring. The plants were always much smaller and in their first year only. They only bloom in second year then die but have so many babies, they never die out once they are happy. I haven't found the best spot for them yet but they grow like crazy along the vacant land in front of my house - just don't like my garden. I'm thinking it's too much water. But, they certainly work well and taste good! I have saved leaves and dried them for green powder but will get some tea today! My grandson is home from school with the croup. He had usnea last night and in 15 minutes, the cough quit. Today, I'll give him some mullein tea. Thanks for all you do!

I like using it in medicinal teas for respiratory issues, and I include it in my herbal cough syrup. I infuse dried mullein and dried garlic in extra virgin olive oil for earaches. I used dried because moisture added into an oil provides a breeding ground for bacteria and will make it go rancid faster. My next batch of ear oil will also include St John's wort and calendula. In researching mullein I came across an herbalist that said the flower stalk tinctured is great for back pain and spinal issues. I have not tested that myself yet. This same herbalist (can't remember her name) said that she liked to make a whole plant tincture. She would collect and tincture the parts of the plant as they developed. First year she tinctured leaves and pressed that out when finished. In the second year she would add flowers to that same tincture. When the flowers were all gone she'd add the flower stalk. Then at the end of the season she'd add the root. This allowed her to have a whole plant tincture from all stages of growth and allow the plant to complete it's life cycle. She said she found this tincture to be much more potent and effective.

I harvest Mullein leaves to make tea every year. It's very common where we live. I make tea with it in an espresso maker, and it's really good. I put a regular black tea bag in the bottom of the stainless steel coffee holder. That adds some flavor and filters the Mullein. Then I smash as much crushed up mullein in it as it will hold. Then I put just bit of water in the espresso carafe, about 1/2 inch, and run it through. Then I wait about 10-15 minutes to let the mullein steep, then I run a full carafe of water through it. You can see the tea is a lot darker on that 2nd run so you really do have to heat it and let it steep to get the full flavor and goodness. My wife and I put a teaspoon of raw local honey in ours. The great thing about Mullein tea is you really can feel it fast, and it feels really good. Slightly euphoric is a fair description. And you can really tell the difference in your lungs and breathing.

I've got 10 gallon zip lock bags full of leaves and a quart of flowers that I use for tea and tinctures. When I met my husband he had severe lung issues from silica dust in the foundry he worked at, always a terrible cough and I set him on to mullein and it's completely healed over the first few years. These days we just use it as needed but we haven't been sick in years so usually gift it to those we know that pick up the ickies from school kids etc.

@@sherrysears122 you keep the flower stalks, the big tall ones whole and leave them to dry. They have lots of oils inside them. Then you melt down some old used candles until you have a bowl of melted wax. Then you drip the melted wax all over the mullein stalk and leave it to dry. 1. Oil infusion and combined with essential oils good for ears, used topically in a roller on **outside** of ears when they're stopped up. 2. Recently had a very long bought of congestion which went into my ears ("glue ear," yes, it's real). Made a tincture which included fresh first year mullein leaves and also fresh elencampagne root, there were several other herbs but they were the top two. With God's blessing my ears started to clear up after a couple of days of taking the tincture. Praise the Lord!! 3. Started adding mullein leaf when making bone broth.

I made your pain salve for my knee and added some DMSO. I have 3 books on it and was amazed at all of its healing properties and wish that the doctors knew about it when I had my accident. My traumatic brain injury probably wouldn't have caused all of my daily challenges if I had received DMSO. Sadly most MDs aren't even aware of this natural product that comes from trees and has numerous studies proving its benefits. I am probably preaching to the choir and would be happy to learn more from you. I also know that much caution is necessary when applying it (very clean skin, no synthetic fabrics over the area where it is applied for at least 20 min. ).

I really enjoyed and learned from this video. So informative to say the least. I enjoy growing herbs in my garden boxes. I will refer to see Amy Fields also. Thank you. I'm 77 and take no medications really have no complaints or ever been really sick until last Sept. I haven't had a cold or flu in over 2 years. We haven't had the C so far. Last September it was so hot and I think I did way to much in the heat and a cyclist husband who nearly died from a surgeons mistake (spent 10 days in the hospital to recover) on a routine surgery and then a very bad cycling accident and serious surgeries. He is recovered now and back cycling and racing. Well, I think it caught up with me and I came down with a horrific case of shingles. Most humbling experience! I was so frightened of having permanent nerve damage because of what I would read about statics of this at my age. It was so painful and made me really feel for people in constant pain and what they have to deal with. My daughter told me no that wasn't so and put me on many herbs, and vitamins for pain and healing. I totally trusted her on this and that's another story. One of the herbs I took in a tincture was Mullein leaf drops 2 X a day. I was pretty much mega dosed on many of these. They worked.
