Since we're talking about Ford 5.4 L engines - got a '98 F-150 Lariat with the 5.4 L - beastie was out of commission for over 2 years, until we found someone that was able to fix the oddball electrical issues it was having - since it's been restored to running condition, it's now having some fuel system issues - as in, you have to cycle the ignition on and off 2 or 3 times before cranking it, apparently to prime the fuel system so it will start. Once running, it has what feels like a bad stumble if you rev it up while parked between 1000 to 1500 RPM. Not throwing any codes. I've got a fuel pressure gauge, vacuum pump, a new fuel filter, and the almighty Haynes manual to start troubleshooting it - just wondering if you've ran into this issue before, and other than a clogged fuel filter, what the most likely issue might be? AFAIK, still the original fuel tank and pump, pressure regulator, etc.

The more of these videos I watch, the more I don't want anything built after 1980. Hate these $1000 bills by the time you pay for the $10 parts which only come as $500 assemblies, pay labor to take half the car apart to get to it and all the electronic crap that goes bad. I DO like the o-ring type gaskets that seal better. No more leaking cork nightmares. Kudos to the techs that keep up with all of it. My training is 40 years old and I didn't keep up with the technology as I didn't need to for the car assembly line and buying the equipment wasn't worth it for the little it would get used on my own junk.
@johnholzhey81492 жыл бұрын
Same as me. I just shy away from the new stuff now. Everything is going to proprietary computerization and if you don't have the training you're screwed. Then if you want it, it costs an arm and a leg, besides the specialized tools.
@gaiustacitus42422 жыл бұрын
I'm with you. I hate designs like starters which have internal solenoids. When the $20 solenoid fails the repair involves purchasing a $430 starter, and then you discover the laborious disassembly and installation procedure requires specialty air-frame and propulsion (A&P) tools that only the dealership has (unless you're an A&P mechanic).

Hell my 83 C10 Chevy gets comparable mileage and equal performance without it, compared to a late model vehicle , so why bother having it? Also, always fun when on break or downtime and breaking out the office wheeled chairs and having blower races to see who’s fastest; or spinning in circles to see who can stay on seat longest w/o falling off, or throwing up😂😂 Oh, the things can do w/ a blower when “kinda board”; or just curious and like “playing”😁

A grandson used a Vise-Grip plier on his Explorer, then a stout tree branch after he lost the plier, until I finally said, "Enough" and bought the struts for him. Got tired of worrying if the damnfool hood would crash down on my head. Taped a shop towel on a Phlangey...been there. And worse: Back in my bodyshop days a dual-action (DA) sander careened under power straight into my left elbow while I was mechanically stripping a toolbox on a telephone-company truck. I washed the wound and wrapped it in the cleanest (amazingly) shop towel I could find and masking tape, and went back to work.
