Thank you for all the videos on cholesterol. Good news! After my LDL went up, my doctor's nurse called to tell me the news and to tell me that my cardiologist wanted me to start on Lipitor. I made an appt with my doctor. Saw her today and we discussed Keto. She didn't know that I'd been doing Keto now for three years. She says I'm in great health, not overweight, all other markers are great. So before I could even ask for a CAC, she brought it up. She reversed her decision of me going on a statin. I wouldn't have anyway. I was so pleased that she was knowledgeable about low carb. She said that anyone who sees her who is overweight, she puts them on a low carb diet. It was so good to hear!!

Dr. Berry. Saying hello from Ooltewah, Tn. I am 57 years old. I have been on Carnivore for about 6 weeks. I started at 235lbs. Today I weighed 203lbs. I also, visited my doctor at the VA and among other things, we went over my labs. I don't have my old lab numbers for reference. but all of my numbers improved except HDL. It has hovered around 30 for a good while and that was it was this time, 30. However, my other numbers improved significantly. My Overall Cholesterol was 114 , down from nearly 200. My LDL was 63.7, down from about 120, Triglycerides was 100 from about 230, my Chol/HDL Ratio is 3.8. My Glucose was 87 down from about 130. My A1C was 5.5, down from 5.9. SO my HDL is my issue that I cant get under control. I am on a low dose of Rosuvastatin (10mg) and I also take Carvedilol (6.5mg twice a day.) Exercise and sleep are my two biggest problems from your list. I have sleep apnea (waiting on a new sleep study to see if weight lose has improved that), but, I don't sleep well. I have been taken 10mg Ambien for some time now and I can not get to sleep with out it. Or, at least I think I cant. If i miss a dose or accidently let it run out, that night, I do not sleep at all. The Ambien does get me to sleep, but no matter what I do, I can only get about 5 hours of sleep and wake up every night after about 4 hours and struggle to get much more sleep. I guess I am asking what do you think of that situation and how can I get more sleep? Will exercising more, help with that. I have been lacking in exercise because its hard to do a lot of lifting and other exercise due to a should rotator surgery that just made my shoulder worse. Also the shoulder and some hip discomfort, interrupt my sleep as well. Any thought you have on this would be much appreciated. If you can. Thanks. Love you videos and I am trying to convince my two brothers and my sister to look into Carnivore or Keto and to check out your videos. Keep up the good work.
@elizabethfaulkner18913 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, you are doing spectacularly for just 6 weeks on carnivore. A 32 lb weightless and all you lab numbers except HDL look amazing. I think you need to give it more time. Keep doing what you are doing with your diet, it will get there. As for exercise I see you mention a shoulder injury. I would recommend you look into resistance bands to get you back and started. Much easier on your joints than weights. Give that a try. It will definitely help with your HDL and your sleep. You can get a pretty good workout in getting breathless and sweaty, it you do each exercise to complete muscle failure. As for sleep I really hope you can wean off the Rx. It really does mess up your sleep. Try switching it for melatonin, try a consistent bedtime ritual. I suffer with some of the same issues especially when fasting. I go to sleep but them about 3-4 hours later I am up and wide awake. It does play havoc on your body. I wish you well in your health journey. Good luck

Everything Elizabeth says and your magnesium could be low as most of us are. Low magnesium causes a host of symptoms like muscle cramis, poor sleep, poor vitamin absorption, brain fog, anxiety and the list goes on. Can't seem to get it under 100 consistently. HA1C is dropping too.... 5.9 to 5.7, but that needs improvement also. Maybe all that will normalize once I get the rest of the weight off. 48 gone so far, 28 more to go. Thanks Dr. Berry for another great video.
@jonfragments32943 жыл бұрын
I have had the same problem of getting my blood sugar under 100 consistently. What I believe is going on is that I've been doing this ultra low carb way of life for several years and my liver starts making sugar on its own. So what I've found to actually get my blood sugar to be lower by a good 15 to 18 points is to do two things daily: Do some arm weight exercises and also have just a tiny bit of carbs. When I have maybe two teaspoons of honey, it sort of tells my body not to start making sugar (gluconeogenesis is the term). These two things have helped. But I would still like to have waking blood sugar under 100 which seems almost impossible for me.
@janesmith4923 жыл бұрын
@@jonfragments3294 I'm pretty sure gluconeogenesis is not the problem, at least for me. Gluconeogenesis is a demand-driven reaction which occurs only when the body needs glucose. If my blood glucose is high, then gluconeogenesis will not take place. I think rather the problem is insulin insensitivity, but I haven't figured out the mechanism yet. I wish Dr. Berry would do a video on this. I'm reading everything on the Internet, but I haven't found an explanation yet. It is very baffling. I wonder if some people are just wired with a higher fasting blood glucose.

It is 77 but the part that concerned me is that the LDL is over 100. After seeing this video, I feel better about this. My doctor of course is not happy that the LDL is so high and HDL is so low and wants me on statins. I sent him the link that Dr. Berry posted a while ago about the study in women that shows the LOWEST factor in heart disease and heart attack is high cholesterol. His response was 'I don't know why you would follow a study done in women" Well is the circulatory system in women THAT different than men? I will ask him at my physical in a few months. He's leaving it up to me to take the statins. If he were not, I would change doctors. But he does everything else VERY well. Your comment is great. I will try berberine. I do briskly 30 minutes every other day and have a way to get more vigorous exercise on a machine, but I've heard from another doctor that if you are huffing and puffing, that raises your cortisol, which prevents fat loss. HDL is 44, overall cholesterol is just below borderline, LDL is higher than I'd like. I'm confident this will continue to improve with my lifestyle changes, as my blood glucose has.

My HDL went from 27 to 49 with an average of 38 throughout my adult life. I take a statin now for 12 years, low dose. I am a health nut who exercises about 45 to 70 hours each month. Now well into my 50s, arthritis is setting in so vigorous exercise is not in the cards anymore but still do what I can do each day on a bike or walking or in the gym. I eat a pescatarian diet now for 11 years. My HDL was at its highest on the statin while eating fish and veggies and no red meat or poultry. We're all different I guess but when my HDL spiked to 49, I was walking 3 miles daily in addition to my daily routine as opposed to 2 mile a day on other days. So walking can indeed make a difference but you have to push it (I was averaging 3.3 MPH).

@@markmirabella4066 Thanks. No I have never been a swimmer and really just don't like it. Plus the logistics of it. My arthritis has worsened in the past few months -- part of which may have been a hernia which has already been found and fixed. So we'll see as that heals if the arthritis sensations are improved any. I am doing one day of 24 hour water only fasting as well and that seems to help. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to improve their health.

Hello, I previously had problems with my hip, to the point where my leg go numb and I had extreme pain in my hip also my fingers were full of arthritis, I went on the carnivore diet for the most part it's seldom I get any carbs, part of my regiment includes K2 with D3, as I do have autoimmune disease as an eximus rise plus the arthritis, I am taking 4000 IUD of K2 in the mk7 and I went from 5000 ID to 10,000 IUD in the D3 and all em down just to a small patch of eczema psoriasis and I don't notice any arthritis anymore. And I would say to work it out with your doctor and see if this can work out for you maybe tried for a few. I do know that fruits and vegetables can be a cause of arthritis from the research I've done because of the toxins they naturally carry to fend off bugs and such. I'm hoping this information can help you via through your doctor.

I've got a meeting coming up with my primary care doc, and am dreading it a little. At the start of the year 2023 I made a major dietary shift from a low fat/high carb diet to a high fat/low carb diet. I also stopped taking the statin I was on. In not quite two months, I've lost 30lbs and feel healthier in just about every way. I'm going to have a standard panel of blood tests, and while I'm pretty sure that my HDL is likely to be higher, my LDL will be higher still. I'm contemplating printing out some of the studies Dr Berry and others have posted on their videos to support my position. Not that my doc is a particularly argumentative.

I'm 61 and my HDL has been 45 for forty years. My LDL has been all over the place, but my total cholesterol has never exceeded 177. After starting fish oil, one pill at night, here and there, and eliminating alcohol, my triglycerides have gone from 265 to 155. My doc was pleased. Working on raising HDL now with exercise and eggs, sunny side up (had to learn to like those). I tend towards a plant based diet though, so coconut oil is my saturated fat of choice. I put it in coffee and then don't eat solid food until noon or so. I've done away with processed carbs. My microbiome is better (IBS sufferer for years). Eating tubers, roasted or baked with the peeling, has done wonders, along with eating garlic and onions, for my gut. I eat a lot of pickles, olives, and kimchi and alternate greens with cruciferous vegetables to balance vitamins and minerals (darned phytates, oxylates, and lectins). Beans are my friend now, believe it or not, as long as I don't exceed 1/2 cup per day. And I feel best eating 1500 calories or less per day. A1C and glucose are both coming down, though I've never been diabetic, just overweight. It's slowly coming off. However, the best thing I ever did for my health was getting rid of the assholes in my life, except my own, of course. Meditation and gratitude take care of any strays that come around. They can't stand the higher frequencies.

@CK-ok4uj Жыл бұрын
Based on my experience, vigorous exercise is the key to raise HDL. I did swimming interval training that easily gets me winded and completely short of breath. I did that without diet control. After for around a month or more, my HDL increased from 72 to 86. LDL stays around the same at 122 because I have no diet control but do not limit too much intake of meat, egg and etc. Based on my experience, my LDL will decrease only if I lose weight much to the level that I feel low energy. Also, for LDL, it is very hereditary and as we know over 70 percent of cholesterol is made by our liver and it is the liver metabolism. So I believe the key to the cholesterol health is HDL and vigorous exercise. It should be very challenging and make you feel completely out of breath at least 15 minutes out of 1 hour exercise... well it can be different by person. Yet, the exercise that makes you feel comfortable will not do anything much....

30 mg is low if you're using mg/l, but if you're using mg/ml which my doctor uses 30 is on the high side and 31 is high. I'm seeing this a lot on the internet of people just posting their numbers and it really matters how they're measured. Mine is 71 mg/ml that converts to 710 mg/l. If I have the conversion right but that's what the internet gave me as the conversion. You would be considered extremely low on the mg/l.

But I changed my foods only from 2 years and a half ago, as I had a macrobiotic diet: a lot of cereals and tofu and seitan, just a small portion of fish once a week, soy joghurt at breakfast and fruits fresh and almonds and so on for about 33 years (I am 74). Then began problems with my tiroid and heartbeat (49/58 60 only in the morning out of bed), and the right eye sight. Then I changed everythink with the suggestion of a great physician.
