I love how Mrs. Jeff sits there patiently as you suffer from Male Testosterone Poisoning... That's a great lady you got there... I can understand how excited you must be to be that close to being finished with the body, and you do a great job of resisting the urge to say "that's good enough for government work" and bring it to paint too early.
@trapper23ful6 жыл бұрын
me thinks mrs Jeff is thinking "I've heard it before" on the bodywork but i do agree strive for perfection only when it looks right is it right take care both

I remember my first car had I think 7:1 compression as it was made in the early 80's in america. 307 V8 with a whopping 130hp. but the torque, oh the torque. it would also run on practically ditch water because of the compression ratio.
@sylvester68366 жыл бұрын

There's something called piston to valve clearance which you need to be careful about when you machine the head to raise compression. I'm not sure it's an issue with such an old engine as yours but newer ones often have to get cut outs for the valves in the pistons to make sure they don't contact with heat expansion.
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 жыл бұрын
Shaving the head by 2mm to raise comp in these engines is very common. I have only gone 1.8mm so it should be fine, but you are correct you can't just do it to anything.
@charlesmiller50786 жыл бұрын
Do you use a light or another way to do a final inspection on the panels, or are you able to just see problems with natural light. These cars look so nice with a nice body and paint job. One time in Detroit when I was working there, I noticed a body shop, with a sign that read. Bump and Plating. Bump........ For taking out the bad metal work. Plating......For Painting. They said you paint wood, and you plate Metal. Its so hard for me to just step back and say its done, finished, ready for paint, because I know when you paint thats it.
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 жыл бұрын
You can use a light to see imperfections on shiny paint. You would never see the imperfections I am taking out in this state. It is all by feel.You need to feel for the slightest variation.
@plantpoweredhealth93836 жыл бұрын
Charles Miller need to wet check the panel with a mist of wax and grease remover, then look along the panel for ripples. They will show up as the light hits the panel on the right angle, If there are any..
@charlesmiller50786 жыл бұрын
When I read the notifications message, it just said " you need to wet check the panel with a mist of Wax and grease", I said what !, and when I actually read the comment, it was "wax and grease remover" that makes alot more since. Thanks

Factory compression, if I remember, was 10.5 to 1. Why are you keeping yours so low? Do you plan to turbo the car?
@lesdmark6 жыл бұрын
on the 2.4 engine maybe, the 2.8 he has not so much.
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 жыл бұрын
L28 is very low compression from factory.
@StevenVigus6 жыл бұрын
Another informative and entertaining video, Jeff. Tell me, are you getting to the point yet where you can't keep up with all of the viewer comments? My channel is much smaller and the subscriber engagement is what keeps me going. Just wondering where the tipping point is.
@StevenVigus6 жыл бұрын
Heart, no comment. I guess that we know the answer. It's somewhere below 29,000 subs.
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 жыл бұрын
I wrote a big reply and it has disappeared?? Hopefully this time it will stick, but basically I still ready and reply to everything basically. It is not too difficult at this stage, but I will see how it goes. If I was doing daily videos with 200 comments a day, then it might start getting difficult.

Hey Jeff, looking great now mate, nearly there! Are you a fan of the American comedian Adam Carolla? He has the largest collection of Paul Newman race cars around and is a huge Datsun/Nissan fan. He is also a very funny guy. All of the cars Mrs Jeff has talked about are either in his collection or he is chasing after them. Cheers, Ty

1.8mm off the head is alot please check if the pistons now need a valve pocket regards Sören
@soranrix6 жыл бұрын
oh and maybe you need a shorter chain and you may have to correct the timing on the cam
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 жыл бұрын
This has been done by a lot before me so clearance should be fine I believe. I have shims to raise the cam up so that the chain tension remains good.
@truthseeker84836 жыл бұрын
nine to one sounds about right...much more would risk pre ignition..might have to use 98 octane
@HomeBuiltByJeff6 жыл бұрын
I will only use 98 octane in this engine anyway. That is available at basically every petrol Station in Aus'.
@tallnrough685 жыл бұрын
due to my experience and calculations, on these engines 1 pt increase is equal to about 10hp. Anyone care to chime in ?
@chrispainter35906 жыл бұрын
in a parallel universe there would be a infinite number ofJ jeffs doing body work on a 240z and none of them has finished
