Ranjani is very lucid and articulate in her experiences and she has a very profound way of assessing things. I have also done a similar moves she has done and have found her analysis very deep and at the same time very practical. Not many can do the analysis way she does. Great to have her on your show.

I listened to this interview, downloaded Ranjani's book "No Longer NRI" and finished reading it all within the same day. Truly enjoyed her thought process, articulateness and quiet confidence. The book also gives a sense of what to expect after moving back

Ranjani already had her Greencard before going back to India. Currently with the priority date being stuck in 2012 and moving at the pace of few days every month... the current generation of Indians with little kids are unable to make this choice since it is not a two way door decision anymore.
@seeta54094 ай бұрын
I believe that having to surrender Green cards for moving to India was not even considered to be a difficult decision during those years because it was quite easy to get them. We moved back to India in 1999 and that did not bother us at all neither did it bother some of our friends who made the same decision. We had no intention of moving back to the US, so it didn't matter. However, my children also decided to go to college in the US after completing their entire schooling in India.

Since the lady has spent her 20s in the US that is why she is very confident about her move and attitude in life. You cannot compare your life with a woman who has spent her life in India. She may not be that confident as this lady is.

it is really helpful these kind of stories, I have 1 question when kids born in US but study from 1st grade in India, what will be there citizen Status - will it be NRI, what kins of fee structure for those kids, will it be NRI Fee structure, like double the fees than citizens
@DesiReturn4 ай бұрын
Thank you. The citizenship doesn’t change if kid studied from 1st grade and fees are based on citizenship at college level. There is something when they become 18, they can decide ( look into that)

Footpaths are not walkable. Some shops occupy, some broken , some parked with vehicles. Houses are too small and expensive to buy big homes. So my parents don't have space to walk in home, nor out on footpaths.

All said and done, parents force the move to India for any number of reasons and the kids are left with no choice. Eventually they will migrate back to the US no matter how great life is in India.

Probably. Kids want to study or work sometime abroad which will help to broaden their perspective/experience and they will choose what's right for them

Yes that is also typically happens and happened in our case. With both children moving back to US for college and jobs. Eventually we don’t want to recreate the situation we were in with my parent when they lived in India.

I think that a Green Card holder can live outside the US for a maximum of 2 years. Beyond that the US would consider that you have abandoned your Green Card status.
@RandomNiche36794 ай бұрын
Yes, its 2 years if you inform them before hand and give your fingerprints before leaving US. If not, its only 180 days, and they have allow you to break one 180 day rule.
