I have never caught one of these. It's on my bucket list to catch and cook.

Braley Pond was stocked yesterday, 3/3, and upon cleaning our catch we found every trout had a belly FULL of fish food. So this debunks your statement that they aren't fed for 2-4 days before stocking, does it not?

Dumb question. Are there no native, natural habitats left of trout in Virginia? Or has it all been industrialised? :-(

Mikael Roupé yes there are still some native trout but not enough to keep up with the demand

Endemic Brook trout populations in VA are confined mostly to cool spring fed streams and rivers in the Appalachians. Pollution, habitat loss, and climate change has impacted some native trout streams significantly. Trout are stocked in order to provide a reliable source of angling recreation, especially for the cooler months when most other species are much less active. There are a few urban ponds stocked annually in Virginia including Locust Shade Park, and Old Cossey Pond. These fish would almost certainly perish during the warmer months but by then most would've been harvested. I prefer this method because it prevents stocked fish from interacting with native trout. Non-native browns and rainbows can be invasive where conditions are ideal.
