That's why I prefer bourbon, guaranteed natural colour, and a fresh cask every time, not aged in some cask thats been used several times.

Hi Ralfy, when I got in touch with Benromach a few months back, and asked them about colouring they assured me that in no Benromach whisky is colour added. Slàinte Ralfy P.S I prefer the peat smoke bourbon matured.

I always up-end my bottle after pouring a dram. My reason is to wet the cork so it pops better when I open it again. I now have a legit reason for doing that now. Cheers Ralfy

I remember Ralfy recommending double-decanting a year or so ago, I can testify it works great. Simple, no frills, not tacky, highly effective. This is the kind of easy simple advice I need. No one else has these kinds of sensible "whisky hacks". EDIT: Still wondering why no Glencairns are used for the past several reviews. I recently watched the latest _Whisky In The 6,_ and Rob didn't use one either. He elaborated the Glencairn opening isn't large enough to fit your nose into easily, and that, to him, it concentrates the alcohol burn a bit more. He still used a tulip-shaped glass though, which I expected, as it had a slightly larger nose and the alcohol burn was lessened.

Yes, there is a sherry culture around whiskies. I enjoy sherry cask whisky, however my favourite whiskies tend to be lightly coloured and smokey. I have done the hand rubbing thing but stopped with it as I tend to smell more of if you washed your hands or not. AND "rolly rolly, no shaky shaky" 🥰

I find every bottle opens up a bit after a dram and some time in the cupboard. Though I will say I loved that Benromach Peated Sherry from the moment I opened the bottle and the youth note comes through wonderfully.

Just last week i had an Benromach tasting session and we had the contrast series peated sherry and peat smoke (the one Ralfy has here) next to each other. We all prefered the sherried one by quite a margin. The peat smoke isn't bad, but it misses the spirit an Islay bottling has which keeps it from being special. Gotta say, their CS vintages so far have been very good and not too exppensive either so they've got a good thing going there.

When I get an angry tight whisky, I leave the top off a few hours, then add a few drops of water. Then I put the cap on and SHAKE it like Humphrey Bogarts shakes a woman for about 45 seconds. Then I take the cap off and leave it overnight. Almost always works for me.

Nobody who takes whisky seriously cares what those folks think. They just shoot one tasting after another, usually visibly drunk, no careful preparation. Seems like their only passion is for sheer volume of reviews, which explains the huge audience. I'm glad they're able to get rich off of it, no envy here, but I never learn anything useful from their videos. It's just a personality cult disguised as whisky circus 😂

Does the decanting into another bottle method also work for whiskies that are polar opposite to the Benromach? I’ve got a Tobermory 12 and it feels either restrained/inert or very, very locked away flavour wise - would this agitation also work on that?

I've been decanting an Edradour 10 SFTC into two large bottles because it just would not open up. I slowly get better results each time I pour it. It's got poor ratings on WB which are justified for the not opened up version. Concerning the splashing, I've always found it ridiculous and fitting to come from the embassador of the most boring and overpriced brands. If you want to get rid of odors in the glass you can just carefully wet the glass with whisky rolling it around. Looks professional as well without looking like a douchebag.

A long time ago, you mentioned using a wine aerator. I got one back then and have used it a few times over the years. Last week I used it on a tequila and it's much nicer now.
