Great player. Beat the best Lakers team of all time, and took the greatest Celtics team of all time to 6 games. Respect.

If it wasn't for his injury he would have dominated in the NBA

I was born in 1980 and grown up in Poland. I only heard about Twin Towers from Huston. Thanks to KZbin I watched few games of them. Oh my! They were so good! Rockets would certainly dominate in the NBA with them

You're right if he wasn't injured he would dominated the NBA with Hakeem!

from Houston: Ralph is still loved in Houston. Winning that 1983 coin flip was very exciting for the city of Houston. Ralph, you are always welcomed in Houston. Wish you would come back more often. MLL

mlzrn I agree w/u 💯. True H-Town sports fans will NEVER forget that last second shot Sampson made to dethrone the defending champion Lakers in the 86 Western Conference Finals...🏀

I loved him as a Rocket. One word, CLASS ACT and a total gentleman off the court

One of 2 pros I played against in high school ( Dell Curry the other ). Class act and genuinely nice guy. If not for knee injuries he would've dominated the NBA as well

I played some pickup ball at that park. Met Ralph's sister there that day. I was doing a 100 mile bicycle ride with the Shenandoah Spokes and my bike had a mechanical failure so I went and played some bball.

NBA rookie of the year, All star mvp and made the game winning buzzer beater to eliminate the Lakers in the western conference finals that put his team in the NBA finals against the Celtics in 1986.Sampson was on his way to greatness in the NBA!

Seeing where he is and what he is doing today reinforces my decision in 1985 to buy his sneakers (PUMA) instead of a pair of Air Jordans.

His height was always exaggerated. He never was close to being 7'4. In his prime he was closer to 7'1.

Interesting, in the Capital Classic, him and Sam Bowie looked to be the exact same height.

His fundamentals were excellent, and he was all about the team. A Player of the Year three seasons running has plenty of chances to leave early, but Sampson never did. You can argue that he shouldn't have indulged his midrange skills so much, but he worked hard to add muscle and his body was simply too spindly to take a pounding down low.

Hof if he would have played full career 10 all stars atleast he had the talent and rockets would have won atleast 1 more title

No mention of his NBA career? Also I'm sure he did have regrets since him playing through injury and not getting it properly treated is what derailed his NBA career
