The best part of this scene is Rama absolutely NOT wanting to fight a bunch of guys with machetes while unarmed and trying to run away first, it really humanizes him. He's a guy doing action hero stuff, not an action hero.

The protagonist is not just doing "i'm the main character here" thing, who can just easily wipe them out for the plot, instead he brought the state of vulnerability and fear to build the intensity of thrill and fighting tense. Iko Uwais just the best actor for this movie. Well done.

I love how you can see the realization come into Rama's face when he knows the only way to continue living beyond this moment is to fight his way through a group of raving madmen with machetes. I like that before this fight starts, the main character doesn't feel badass or confident. You can see it in his eyes, the fear at what he's up against. He's got some ideas on how he can survive (love that move where he kicks the first guy's machete away after the disarm!) but there's a point in the fight where it becomes clear he's run out of ideas and now he's just trying to stay alive for the next half-second. I also liked that he did end up taking a hit or two, and even one from the machete that would have ended him if he wasn't wearing a stab vest. You really get the feeling that he barely survived this fight.

This scene shows just how much light body armor and tactical clothing made a difference. Several goons hit Body shots on Rama and one was able to slash him In the back. If not for that armor, Rama wouldn’t be alive right now. Plus he is wearing knee pads and steel toe tactical boots, which probably saves his knees and feet with all that rolling around he is doing on that hard surface.

I always love when armor and equipment factors into a fight. In a run of the mill action movie, Rama in body armor vs guys in hoodies would make no difference. Rama tries to avoid the fight with armed guys first. When he gets cornered, he tries to disarm the opponents and hinder their movement. He resorts to killing them when it becomes certain that there's no other option, but still he regrets it (the guy who dies at the door).

This whole movie feels like a video game and has a bunch of stuff happening in it that would work really well if it did get an adaption. Having to avoid the windows or be met with a rain of bullets, enemies spawning from all the rooms, characters like the Machete Men, and Maddog serving as bosses. The 2nd movie having even more neat bosses like bat man, hammer girl, and the assassin. Prakoso coulda been like DLC content where we see his perspective and his fights. Idk, I just love these movies, wish they had some games like it
