I like that before this fight starts, the main character doesn't feel badass or confident. You can see it in his eyes, the fear at what he's up against. He's got some ideas on how he can survive (love that move where he kicks the first guy's machete away after the disarm!) but there's a point in the fight where it becomes clear he's run out of ideas and now he's just trying to stay alive for the next half-second. I also liked that he did end up taking a hit or two, and even one from the machete that would have ended him if he wasn't wearing a stab vest. You really get the feeling that he barely survived this fight.

Try search vids with certain words 'tawuran bacok'. School kids fight ritual in Indonesia. You may see many fast swings like that in real street fights. No technique, just lust for a kill.

I watched this when it came out, and honestly even on the big screen everything happened so fast I felt like I had a hard time wrapping my head around This whole movie, I kinda felt like I had been thrown at a wall or two myself, but I've kept training in martial arts over the years, and I watched it like 50 times before realizing how brilliant and awesome this was. And also the main character does an awesome job of playing someone on a classified mission, who also expresses thought like a human experiencing what he is doing and accomplishing.

It's a martial arts style called Pencak Silat. Very practical and deadly in a fight. Oddly enough, it won't seem so, in its dancing “kata” form.

1:28 Surprised noone is commenting on the close up shot of the bloody machete. That machete is the one which cut Rama's cheek--it's his blood on that blade. A grim reminder to our main character of what might happen to him should he lose.
@reiterhilfe35262 жыл бұрын
We don't know anything about the machete gang but we can already tell their relationship with the short time we see them, like the white shirt guy and the orange shirt guy seems to have some close relationship when we saw how shaken he was seeing the white shirt guy's dead body (0:50) and how much he wants to kill Rama after that (1:13)
