Hey! Doing the video stuff while completing a degree where the majority of what I did was write has been tough and has resulted in a lot of delays and deadline pushes, but I'm happy to say I'm finally done! I don't get my piece of paper till November but I'm done all my classes. What this means for the channel is basically (hopefully) I will not have any other writing projects to interfere with what I do for the channel. More of my writing energy towards videos as opposed to term papers= more and better videos. Yay! The other thing I wanted to cover in this comment is the Fallout 4/Autumn Leaves situation. I anticipate it being a super common comment, but yes, Fallout 4 ripped the concept of this mod for a quest in Far Harbor. And yes, I didn't talk about it. Why? I did write about it. I wrote about it for days. The conclusion I reached in every draft I could come up with ended up basically saying nothing. The situation has by all means been finished. Bethesda took the dev's quest idea, put it in their DLC, the dev found out and responded basically with 'oh! well, anyway', and now the dev is doing his own thing in the industry. He won. If you want a comparison between the two, you can google "Autumn Leaves" and it seems to be the only thing people consistently talk about the mod for. I didn't want to follow that trend so it's not in my video. I think it was the right choice for the type of video this is. That's all from me for now. More streams and videos on the way. Hope you enjoyed this one :D

Modding is tough and time-consuming. so I understand the feeling of when you can't do what you want to do, I can only imagine trying do long Analysis content for KZbin while working on a degree. Glad to hear you will have more free time to do more videos Ram! Looking forward to them as always!

It would be a shame to reduce the mod down to just "that thing a Bethesda quest designer ripped off" so I think it was the right move to just focus on the mod itself.

I heard apparently there's tons more DLC sized mods coming out for FNV, like the New Reno one or the one trying to bring back Fallout 3(the one developed in isometric view) into FNV. I really hope you'll review them when they come out 🙏

"falling, like autumn leaves..." Hard to recommend due to its slow nature, but easily one of the best and most natural add-ons to Fallout. Felt like I bought it as a mini-dungeon for $3.50 on the 360 marketplace, in the best way possible.

This was a great video! I played the Narrator, Maintenance Robot and Professor Cartright (via holotapes). This mod eventually got me a minor voice acting role in a game Edge of Eternity for a game studio that Baron (the dev) went to work for as narrative design 🙌

“Once you create something, it isn’t yours anymore.” Hit me a lot harder than it had any right to but it’s a beautiful statement about art (or to me at least ) and games and their relationship with mods. Once u put out a game, it’s the community’s game and their love and passion for it will inevitably spawn mods like this. No matter what mod you put out good, bad or underdeveloped, it will never be yours afterwards, what happens after u put it out may make it better or worse. But it’ll never be yours again. And I think that’s beautiful.

I think as an artist myself I somewhat struggle with that mindset. I agree with what you said, but I think for me there'll always be that feeling, or desire as an artist to have control over what you create. Something that you believe to be uniquely yours. When you want to show if off to the world, you also want the world to know that this is yours, and this is how you see things. So then when someone else says something different about, there's a hint of annoyance about it. Of course I understand this is not a great mindset to have (it's something I'm trying to move away from) and of course my art isn't as nuanced or meant to inspire deep thought or interpretation as other works of art - this mod included - so maybe that's part of my issue. But you're right. In a way that's a necessary trade off when wanting to show off art you're proud of. It may not be truly yours after it's out there, but it's better to have other people see than to leave it hidden away for your eyes only.

Commenting before I watch the video but AL has my favorite bit of science fiction writing ever: during a dialogue with one of the robots, they ask you what scratching an itch felt like, and I genuinely had to think about that for awhile. It's such a minor thing but it really makes the gears in your head turn and consider things from another angle.

Now that this mod had been mentioned, I believe "Tales from the Burning Sands" is in order. Puce Moose had established himself as a strong storyteller as far back as his first mod for Fallout 3, "A Note Easily Missed", and his mods not being ported to TTW is the only thing that prevents me from switching to it completely and leaving the original Fallout 3 behind for good. "Tales..." is his magnum opus, and is definitely worth a video.

This mod really hits you if you let it. I got so immersed into it, at times feeling trapped by the gray corridors and the red eyes always watching me, at other times never wanting to leave. It really made me examine my character and brought out some of the most emotional and most jaded responses, all for an ending that was so bittersweet I couldn't play the game for two days after. Idek if I ever want to play through this mod again just because I want that one experience crystallized in my mind.

I'd attribute the large amount of New Vegas DLC sized mods to Alton, IL for Fallout 3 more than New California. That was really the first "dlc-sized" mod. Or if we're talking NV mods specifically, Beyond Boulder Dome was one of the first and still is pretty alright

Man, I really love RPG settings that build up instead of out, if you get what I mean. Autumn leaves feels great because it delineates a set of characters and an area and then only ever works to flesh these things out. I do wish we had more bite-size mods like it, mods focused more on the execution than the ambition.

I subscribed to your channel way back when you made a video about how Fallout 1 is so consistent thematically, and ever since then I've been aching about how most games, movies, and media in general lack care in this regard even though it's the best aspect of them. Sharing abstract ideas that are digestible when shown so that you can empathize with them in a way that talking about isn't enough. It's why your videos need to be at least 30 minutes long, while many other essayists focus on tangents or tangentially throwing big words(your aforementioned ludonarrative dissonance but your usage of it is good). You are aware that themes are important for a piece of media that wishes to propagate worthwhile memes(I'm also committing a faux pax here by using a big word, please forgive me). I don't watch your channel often because I don't have as much time, but every time I stumble upon one of your videos, it's a treat. It warms my heart knowing someone line you exists and that you make videos like this. I hope you you are in good health. Thank you for what you do 🙏

The GECK gets a lot of hate as an engine and toolkit, but what can be done with it is astonishing. Best RPG engine out there. Really with Bethesda went the way of Unity and Unreal and licensed it, but it's an entire book a reasons why they don't.

I thought thr mod was great. Really just so well thought out and well executed. I unfortunately encountered a bug that broke ot when I was about 90% done (a clue triggered through a wall in a locked room somehow) which broke the game, and even then, the experience was so well crafted, so unique and so memorable, I'd still recommend it wholeheartedly. Really cool what the author believed was possible and how they brought that vision to life. Really showed what the game is capable of, and how much more there can be to mods for games. Autumn Leaves isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, especially in a game designed around exploring and murder, but for those with the patience, it is more rewarding than 95% of mod content out there.

the Compleate timeline" of "The Player" is subjective depending which version you want to have as a character "backstory". if you use TTW then you are the Lone Wanderer and became The Courier if you use FNC (fallout new california) then you start as the vault 18 version of "the chosen one" and become The Courier because of linked events. if you play from TTW then you have to ignore the whole killing yourself is the "cannon ending" and include the retcon added by Broken Steel if you play from FNC it helps to ignore the super mutant sub plot about you being their version of the chosen one. regardless of which prequeal you use the better mods to use are everything by Th3Overseer, Puce Moose and mods like BBD (beyond boulder dome) and SLS (salt lake stories) finishing FNV with Lonesome road avoid SomeGuy2000's mods unless you like rip offs of the modders favourite movies

@@ramblelime it’s okay it’s not bad but it has a couple things but it’s fine overall(keep in mind I’m also a bit dyslexic so it could have more grammar issues I didn’t notice)

My favorite part of the whole mod was when you’re talking with James and ask him why Arthur acts so autistic

The reason why it works is that it was developed by *one person* Every time stuff is made by committee, especially by a bunch of amateurs, any hint of artistic merit is thrown out the window and the original idea gets molested so badly there is no original idea 5 minutes into development.

This was my first quest mod in fnv and it easily ruined all following quest mods for me because I have yet to find another that feels so natural to the game with a similar enough style of writing and humor to vanilla. I don't think I have found another quest mod for any Bethesda game that made me feel as immersed as Autumn Leaves (although I wil gladly take recommendations!)

Remember when Bethesda copy-paste this mod in Far Harbor? I 'member....

I honestly think autumn leaves is a 7/10. Wonderful dialogue, but obtuse layout and unnecessary load screen kill it for me. I honestly would want it to have a more vanilla and immersive way to find or learn about its existence. That and some combat to mix it up. Say what you want, but owb knew that's it's a rpg game so it has mountains of good dialogue mixed in with some combat to make sure it's not just "listen to fallout fanfiction for hours.exe"

Also the combat let's you have some downtime to really chew on the dialogue. Unlike owb, their isn't a mountain of exploration to help so you're forced to listen to blocks of texts and then before you can really process it, you get another block of text x10.

I’m sorry but the combat gameplay is so distracting like 9mm should NOT give that much recoil, that’s more like if you fired a .44 magnum

Isn’t this the mod that Bethesda straight up plagiarized for a quest in the Far Harbor DLC?
