Got the Aorus Elite X570 in 2019 Sept after seeing his breakdown on AM4 boards and it has lived upto what he has said. Sure, the BIOS was finicky (back in 2019) but it's gotten alot better. Back then the initial plan was R7 2700X (it was around 99p more than a R5 3600 - needed the cores) --> 3900 X/T --> 5950X. Otherwise, would have gotten a cheap B450 board.

I got the X570 Aorus Master based on BZD recomendation in 2019 too. Gamers Nexus also used it as AM4 test board. And aside from some BIOS bugs it's been rock solid for me. It was expensive for the time at 450 but still almost half the price of the Xtreme.

Keen on the Asus video :) It baffles me how much money we have to spend now to get 3 features. Clear CMOS button, Flash button and a Q-code led. I find these videos so valuable for those features alone. Currently on B550 and what it looks like is I'm just going to have to wait to pick up a feature-rich mobo used in a year or so. When I look back at what I paid and what I got it's crazy. Prices in AUD: Bought a Maximus V Formula for like $300 on special Bought a Maximus 8 Hero used - Didn't spend a lot maybe $400 Bought a Crosshair 6 Hero that lasted me 3 generations and it was like $350 Bought an Aorus Master X570 but sold it and bought a cheap B550 Master for like $250 B650 Aorus Master $650And X670 Aorus master is $899

I am similar in that I don't need a board that has 4 m.2 slots; 2 is enough for me. One for the boot drive and one for where you want/need a fast and relatively large drive. I only buy ATX mobos because I like not having things crowded together. I require a board have an optical out/TOSlink for audio. I like having lots of SATA ports(my current AM3+ board has 6 SATA and 2 eSATA), and I have a 4 port SATA card installed in an x1 slot. When I build an AM4 system I will buy an 8 port SATA card for it...

I bought the X670E Aorus Master specifically for the PCIe layout. I don't like x8/x8 layouts. To me the only use for that seems to be multiple GPUs, which is a pretty rare setup these days. With the master I can maintain x16 for the gpu, and have 2 m.2 directly to the cpu (one for os, one for games), and still have the remaining 2 PCIe slots usable. Still sticking with sata ssds seems insane to me, the performance and system responsiveness difference is very noticeable. My only real complaint is the 2.5gb lan, but I can get a separate card when I actually upgrade my network to 10gb. I also don't agree to saying you can't put a 10gb nic in a 3.0x1 slot. It wouldn't do a full 10gb but it would do 8gb, which I would say is close enough for most people.

I think Buildzoid's point was that supplying an AIC with PCI-E x8 to dual M.2 would provide CPU-connected M.2 slots for those who need them (like yourself) while offering flexibility for those who want to use a second x8 slot for something else.

@cameronhindmarsh im like you. I want x16 gpu and 2x m2nvme drives plus the Option to put maybe a Soundcard or another x4 pcie card without the cut off the x16 gpu slot. but the xtreme hast the same Layout right?
@Tecnoc22
@Tecnoc22 Жыл бұрын
@@BrickBazooka Similar, but not exactly the same. The xtreme connects all 4 m.2 slots directly to the cpu, so 2 of them have to share bandwidth with the x16 slot. So you can do your x16 GPU and 2 nvme drives fine, but as soon as you add a 3rd nvme the GPU is going down to x8.
@BrickBazooka
@BrickBazooka Жыл бұрын
@@Tecnoc22 great and thank you for your quick response. I would never do more than 2x m2ssd. So it's up to me if I choose xtreme over the master right? master has 2x usb ports more, xtreme has 10gbit lan.. both nothing really important to me. I like the looks of the xtreme more (fits my founders 4090 better), but it's also 250 Euro / usd more expensive... lane Layout wise the master should be better. I have to pick between these two, cause I want an e-atx am5 aorus board and my 5 years old x370 k7 is getting too old..

The reason there's so many M.2 slots is because if there were PCIe slots there they would get covered up by your 4 slot 4090. Even a regular 2 slot card you want to leave room for the fans to breathe. I agree they don't need to be PCIe 5.0, though. Just do PCIe 3.0 for the M.2's for all it matters.

The VRM might be overkill for Am5, but you have to think these boards have to be designed to last multiple generations and power any future cpus. What if amd bring out an Am5 32 core cpu in the future that can pull 500-800w? The VRM heatsink will be needed then.

This is what I was thinking, this is the first generation and they are massively overbuilding to future proof as much as possible. Not only CPU, but the rest of the board. The cat is out of the box.. and high end GPUs are going to be 2-3 card width and having pci slots covered is useless. Makes sense to use that space with m2 slots. Also, having them 5.0.. future proofing.

You should really give M.2 NVMe SSDs a chance, they're actually pretty awesome. Nothing looks nothing is faster, nothing looks cleaner, because it doesn't require cable management or ugly up your case with expansion cards that might make it more difficult to install some of these new GPUs that are just massive. There are so many PCIe lanes that it makes no sense to waste them on something stupid like an ugly expansion card for M.2 drives, when you can just have M.2 drives installed on the board directly.

I have always made it a point to keep my storage down on my gaming rig. One two terrabyte stick is enough for me to keep everything plus two or three games loaded and still not go over 60% total capacity. If I can get a good deal on a 4TB stick, I might consider it.
@jamesbuckwas6575
@jamesbuckwas6575 Жыл бұрын
At the same time, not every workload requires that bandwidth, SATA drives can be cheaper for higher capacity models, cable management is often a non-issue since all cables are routed at the back regardless, and some people like having expansion cards in their PCs also. You may not, and that's fine. But other people don't mind it. Whether or not a PC is "cleaner" is subjective anyways. The flexibility of installing three GPUs, super-fast networking, or other add-in cards, are all lost when you have 4 m.2 slots for a system and a user that doesn't need it. Having to cool the GPU and not block it's cooler, that's also solvable by having an m.2 expansion card (with its "clean" shroud, blower fan, and no external power connectors mind you) above the GPU rather than below.

@@evalangley3985 It's a nice board, but just as all the others in existence, it doesn't do what OP asked for. It has a rather common 16x/4x/1x PCIe slot layout (+3 NVMe slots). I understand why all the board manufacturers plaster their boards with NVMe slots, but so far pretty disappointing that there isn't at least one option for a workstantion-y build that just gives you maximum pci-e slots. I'd be perfectly fine with a bunch of PCIe3 slots from the chipset, since almost nothing except GPUs and NVMEs really need faster lanes, but just please give me one option that doesn't require me to frankenstein together a mess of riser cables and M.2->PCIe converters just to slot in something other than storage.

@6.38 Not exactly convenient - Yes I would agree 100% under the first metal plate are two of the mounting screw holes for the motherboard - a trap for young players you put the motherboard in the chassis first but there is another gotcha - make sure you have sufficient room to plug in your two 8 pin EPS connectors at the top of the board - I recommend 8 to 2 x 4 extensions to save your knuckles. One good feature of the board is that it has a microphone to listen to the sound of your fans and register a DB Level so you can make things nice and quiet. It's downfall however is the integrated software that goes with it which is best described as buggy but also is not segmented so overclocking seems to be part of fan control.

I guess consumers like m.2 slots because most pcie to m.2 adapters are either x4 single m.2 or x16 quad m.2. Motherboards usually have no x16 electrical slots free and have tops 2 free x4 electrical. I guess you could also install only 2 m.2 ssd’s in an x16 ssd adapter in a motherboard that supports x8/x8, but those x16 ssd adapters are pretty long and will block some GPU airflow(if you can fit an expansion card beneath the GPU). I want more lanes not faster lanes. (So much I have explored getting an x399m taichi)

the quad M.2 cards should work as dual M.2 on an X8 slots. AFAIL they are basically passive pass throughs for the PCI-e lanes.

For your claim about VRM heatsink X670E Aorus Extreme being a surplus, maybe the manufacturer or customer actually wants the VRM to run cooler since electronics generally last longer at lower temperature? The durability may be an aspect in the consideration? After checking out Hardware Unboxed's video about motherboard VRM for past AMD and Intel generations, the series becomes my favourite on KZbin because there are so many example that manufacturers screwed up so hard on VRM. And now manufacturers are aware that buyers are aware about the VRM issue. I think it is also safe to assume that people who would buy this expensive motherboard is likely going to pair it with a higher end AM5 CPU pulling higher wattage (although not as much as Intel do). About the PCIe lanes, I would agree that it reduces the flexibility as a motherboard.

Just installed the MATX board on Christmas eve with a 7600x what an upgrade from my old Gigabyte 350ab wifi w/ 1700x. Some games really struggled at getting the 100% out of my rx6600. Even when they showed mostly 100% I know there was more to get out because I'm seeing some really big gains with the new setup. Possibly Pcie 4.0 support helping too. Used liquid metal conductonaut to paste and in long cinebench runs see around 92-93c with help of a cheap 280mm AIO. Boy these new procs run hot. It boosts frequently to 5.5ghz though and maintained 5.2ghz all core during the cinebench runs. Board is rev 1.1 but came with v1 bios and could not use my two ram sticks. Had to use one to post. Upgraded bios to 3c and two 16Gb ram sticks work and they run full speed with the xmp profile. Overall I'm happy for the $200 I spent on the board and with all the functionality should be set for multiple future upgrades!

honestly this every generation motherboard lineup rambles are one of ur best contents problem with motherboard pcb breakdowns tho is everyone needs different stuff and expects certain features from a motherboard, for example since i have a C700M fulltower case and it requires 2x USB 3.0 frontpanel headers, thats one thing i look in a motherboard, something that you never point out, im not criticizing ur content, just saying how situational motherboards are to different needs. still ur motherboard contents are one of the best if not the best on the internet.

These gigabyte boards are very affordable especially in the eastern europe countries. X670E Aorus master was sold out in few days after it appeared in stores. It was almost half the price of the X670E Hero and cheaper than Strix-F which doesn't even has POST code. I boght Z690 Master brand new for 299$ and I can't complain for this price. Z790 Hero is 800$.

They are cheap maybe because of the low quality control. I bought the B560E Aorus master thinking that it was a sensible purchase, but got burned instead. There's a defect with this motherboard. It causes black screens when the CPU is under heavy load. I uploaded a video on my channel if you are curious. Other people on Gigabyte's Reddit page are also having this issue.

Post codes should not be limited to test benches, these used to be on mainstream boards (my Skylake board has one!) Imagine the reduced cost of support when you can just have users figure out the problem themselves, and you KNOW these modules cost so little, but marketing won’t let them put it back where it used to be so they can upcharge.

I'm with you on prefering PCIe slots vs anything else. PCIe is the most universal and flexible interface on modern CPUs. It can be used for nearly anything. It's even more flexible than USB. You can't convert USB to PCIe, but you can do the opposite easily. Locking precious CPU PCIe lanes in to the m.2 form factor (which I admittedly like) is just silly. PCIe can be used for storage expansion (like a SAS controller), expanded networking, more USB, sound cards, additional GPUs, etc.
@M.R.B.
@M.R.B. Жыл бұрын
The reason why they bake the M.2 slots onto the board is probably due to the current trend of vertically mounting your GPU on a dedicated or converted vertical mount that more likely than not kills all possibility of using any of the other slots. :(
@Kojiro3210
@Kojiro3210 Жыл бұрын
That m.2 vs pcie x16 caveat is an "issue" with just about every AM5 board, tho its less of a problem for AM5 than it is for Z790 because it at least has 4 more lanes for cpu. You'll find that even the X670E MSI Godlike and Crosshair IX extreme have similar caveats to it. This is really a reason why I would not hesitate to use a Threadripper should they finally make enthusiast versions again. Dont have to worry about what happens to your primary gpu slot if you use all the pcie-5 m.2 slots. I guess they dont see turning your gpu slot into x8 will have much of an impact for gamers at least, since even these new gen gpu wont be saturating it. plus they are still gen 4 gpu. but, for the prosumer that would have needed that gen5 gpu bandwith AND gen 5 m.2 slots, then they will need to get/stick with Threadripper.
