Ramblings: did I buy the same shoe twice???

Something I hadn’t noticed before and only started noticing looking at the various custom shoe makers was how many the different shoe makers all replicate the various shoe styles or designs. Their are brogue patterns but each seem to replicate the design in their individual last shoe model and on their own unique leather grades. I find that interesting. While both shoe look the same, I’d imagine that they do feel different when worn based on each their construction.

True. Last, leather and pattern. Check out the length of the heel counters. The length of cap or wings. Portion of the vamp covered and uncovered. It’s fascinating to see. And one hand welted is not as comfortable as the next. Insole material quality, thickness, lining thickness. Whether a component is veg tanned, chrome tanned, shape and material of the internal counters and toe stiffeners all matter. Of course the same is said of GYW shoes. My Edward Green or G&G shoes that are gyw are more comfortable than 60-70% of my handwelted shoes. If I hadn’t tried quite so many I would never have known.

140+ shoes...amazing...how long did it take you to collect it?

I’ve been really going since 2018. I do usually purge about 30-40 per year.

It seems to me that the Yearn shoes are very similar in many ways to the CARLOS SANTOS HANDGRADE ADELAIDE OXFORD IN WINE SHADOW PATINA ... ???

The leather quality and patina are similar (except the color) but Carlos Santos are made in a factory by machines. The Yearn are made by hand. They are hand welted, clicked, hand stitched soles and hand finished. The closing (or sewing) is done by machine.
