Great reaction. If someone hasn't mentioned it already stallone insisted on doing his own stunts. He broke ribs hitting the trees on the cliff jump scene. Filming was temporarily stalled.

The movie does contain subtle hints about why the Sheriff disliked Rambo. His office has some props to show he himself was a veteran of the Korean war, which the public had already forgotten when the Vietnam war took all the attention. He felt he was part of a forgotten generation and that the war he bled in, meant nothing, while Vietnam war was on the lips of everyone. His hatred really did stem from something as petty as that.
@blacksheep_edge14122 ай бұрын
Sometimes too subtle for those who watch for the first time, or are not vey observant. It does a much better job in the book this film is based on (or so I've heard, I haven't read it myself TBH), in explaining the thoughts of the Sheriff and his hate towards Rambo.

The movie is vastly different from the book, but it’s such a better story. In the novel Rambo is almost completely unsympathetic and you feel genuinely bad for the police. Rambo kills them all after honestly bringing his arrest on himself.

The M249 Squad Assault Weapon (SAW) replaced the M60 that Rambo took out of back of truck in the 80's. The SAW is lighter and has less jams.

Anyone that likes the movie, should really read the book. Vastly different ending (That makes far more sense), but aside from that, the two match nicely! Anyone claiming Sly Stallone can't 'Act' has NEVER seen the ending of this movie! That heart-wrenching monologue still sends chills up-and-down my spine! All because some as*hole stuffed into a LEO costume didn't let a Veteran enjoy a meal before moving-on... You'd think today's Govt. Mobsters would've learned a thing or two by now (ie Since the Vietnam years).

That monologue at the end breaks me. It's so well acted and comes from a real place. We forget how badly we treated veterans as they were coming back from 'Nam, and what they were going through. That monologue at the end summed it up perfectly. The ending was altered as well. Based on a novel by the same name (First Blood), this film made a couple of minor/major alterations to the plot. First was the fact that in the film Rambo doesn't kill anyone, he only wounds to incapacitate them. Yes the one deputy, Galt, dies. But let's face it, it's his own damn fault he died. He was so into the thought he could just kill they guy and it was perfectly legal he removed his safety belt, in turbulent winds, in a small helicopter, and when the pilot got startled and shook the helo it caused the deputy to fall. His fall was his own fault for not wearing his safety equipment. The second change was when they tested the film the ending got a bad reaction when Rambo deleted himself. They changed it to where he walks out under arrest instead. It was much better received after that change, and it left the ending open for possible sequels. Which did in fact come later. This first film is a serious look into the PTSD, and poor treatment, that Vietnam veterans face(d). The sequels are all typical action film fare.
@DrunkDadsWatch2 ай бұрын
Thanks you for all that info, well I’m happy in the end he didn’t die, I agree the sequels become something else but they are still popcorn fun. The original was more a well thought out story of PTSD and that’s what makes it great. Really appreciate all your comments, keep watching I love your info -Rick

I appreciate you guys keeping in the monologue. I did a tour in Afghanistan and I'm lucky: apart from a couple times pumping my brakes in the road because I think a plastic bag is an IED, I got through it pretty good. But I know folks who didn't, and often it's the toughest folks. Because they don't know how to bend in the wind, they just crack. Not saying it's a bad thing: in the field, they're the best ones. But there's no cureall for that kind of trauma... ...sorry for the rambling rant, but I just wanted to thank you for keeping it in. Some reactors don't do it because it completely redefines the film. Thanks for sharing your reaction with us!

It's too bad Stallone did so many bad unrealistic movies and then tried doing comedies. He had the chops to really act and was perfect in real life gritty roles. I remember writing him off until I saw Cop Land where he was acting in a real type of situation again.
@slchance88393 ай бұрын
I agree with you, but also see it from Stallone's point of view. If he tried to be a serious actor, he would just be ANOTHER actor....Like Mark Wahlberg trying to be serious in movies with heavyweights like Anthony Hopkins (Transformers) and Jack Nicholson (Departed). INSTEAD, Stallone took the action hero route and became the third highest paid action star and movie ICON. So the choices are "decently-paid acclaimed actor" or "filthy rich icon with THREE franchises." (Rocky, Rambo, and Expendables) I'd pick the second one. Hopkins and Nicholson dont even have any franchises.
