​@@greatmomentsofopera7170 it's a technique called "inegalité", almost always used in french baroque music, where the notes when grouped in 4, are played "unequally". The precise notation would result in something close to dotted quaver rythms.

Incomparable Rameau ! Son plus bel opéra, jamais représenté de son vivant, du fait d'un deuil dans la famille royale qui suspendit tous les spectacles. Le Collegium 1704 est exceptionnel, comme toujours, juste, vif, bien articulé; les solistes sont plus inégaux : Alphise (Deborah Cachet) est excellente, avec une bonne prononciation, comme sa suivante, Sémire, (Caroline Weynants) à qui est confié ici le premier d'Alphise "Quand à l'horizon...."; les deux Boréades ne sont pas à la hauteur, mais Adamas (Benoît Arnould) est brillant, et surtout le Borée impressionnant, à la prononciation parfaite, de Nicolas Brooymans. Reste l'Abaris de Juan Sancho, souvent touchant, avec un beau timbre, mais trop d'inégalités, frôlant parfois le contre-ténor, et un français presqu''inaudible. En tout un excellent concert, Rameau étant si rare et "Les Boréades" si beaux. Grand merci à Václav Luks, au Collegium 1704, au choeur et aux solistes.. et à Avrotos pour l'avoir posté. 😘😍😘

Yes, he was a genius - definitely. I just wonder why he wrote sudden outbursts from the orchestra in the middle of nice, quiet songs.....The outbursts from the French horns are especially enigmatic....

I agree it is a shame the proloue is omitted but complete recording is now available on spotify. Amazing that this was never performed until 1982! I saw City of Birmingham Touring opera stage this when I was a student back in 1992!

On mesure avec cette production moyenne le miracle que fut la version mythique et inégalée de J.E Gardiner en 1982 à Aix-en-Provence. Ici les tempi ne sont pas toujours les bons, les solistes (surtout les ténors) sont à la peine, notamment dans la justesse. Il est vrai que la partition est redoutable et exige des prouesses techniques et des voix puissantes. Rameau est parmi les plus grands mais sa musique, subtile, ébouriffante, décapante, moderne et inventive en 1764 n'est pas à la portée de tous.... Vàclav Luks réussit mieux avec des compositeurs plus conventionnels comme Bach ou Haendel.
